Advice: Meaning Of A Snake Phrase…

Hello Everyone!

Hopefully, you are making the best out of our hump day Wednesday afternoon?? Here’s yet ANOTHER reminder that my first children’s book entitled, “Not All Girls Play With Dolls” is now live on Amazon in both paperback and as a Kindle, an iTunes e-book, and for Nook via Barnes & Noble!! As of today, the Barnes & Noble Nook e-book is STILL pending approval. Check out my standard brand hashtags that are #LeslieMJasper, #ConstructionTales, and #VerballyDisastrous. For this blog post, I’m delivering to you some more Quora advice. This round of Quora advice is my interpretation of a phrase. The phrase offered in the question is, “justice is just like a snake, it only bites those without shoes”. The person posing the question is asking the meaning of that phrase. I would think that this phrase is a metaphor. The metaphor is on getting punished for not being properly prepared. If you are not willing to take steps to be prepared, well then prepare to get your lazy ass bit by a snake…LOL!! If I walked in a jungle with flip flops, I am not properly dressed. Allowing myself to be exposed makes me vulnerable for attack by predators. On the other hand, go into the jungle wearing a suit of armor is overkill. While it will protect you from harm, you will get worn out from carrying the extra weight. You may even become dehydrated from sweating in that big suit of metal. I’m not saying that a person wearing flip flops deserves to be bitten by a snake. You should not be surprised if it happens. What is your interpretation of the phrase? If you have a different vision, I’d love to hear it. Go ahead and drop your interpretation down in the comment section below. Now, without chatter, go ahead and check out the question and my response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“What is the meaning of the phrase “justice is just like a snake, it only bites those without shoes”?”

By Rose Anne Campbell

MY RESPONSE:

“I interpret that phrase to mean that justice comes hard and fierce for a person who is not properly prepared for the day. If you don’t do your homework and try to wing things, that lack of effort can bite you in the a$$ later on. If you walk through the jungle with only flip flops on, don’t be surprised if the fire ants and snakes come out of hiding to chomp on your toes. May you always be properly prepared for the day and able to handle any situation. #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous”

Advice: Where Do Excuses Originate From??

Hello Everyone!

Let’s have our best foot forward on this Tuesday morning?? Here’s another reminder that my first children’s book entitled, “Not All Girls Play With Dolls” is now live on Amazon in both paperback and as a Kindle, an iTunes e-book, and for Nook via Barnes & Noble!! As of today, the Barnes & Noble Nook e-book is still pending approval. I might as well share that my hashtags are #LeslieMJasper, #ConstructionTales, and #VerballyDisastrous. For this blog post, I’m sharing with you some more good ‘ole fashioned Quora advice. I’m sharing with you not one but two Q&A’s!! One piece of advice is a smart ass retort to a posed question. I will let you read it down below since it’s simple. I also opted to choose the topic subject matter on the origination of excuses. As a young kid, I had no patience for anyone offering excuses. My father was a tough dude and he didn’t want to hear any excuses whatsoever! I saw a meme recently about holding a flashlight for my father that causes me to not have hurt feelings. 🙂 I grew up in an environment that was intolerant of excuses. You had to be on point at all times or you will get your ass kicked! For many years, I adopted that same sentiment. However, once I had sons, I learned to soften up my approach over time. Sometimes, my eldest will joke and say that someone kidnapped his mother. The boys taught me patience and tolerance that I never had as a young woman. The older I get, the less hard I am on a variety of things in my life. Earning some major aches and pains along the way have served as a major distraction for me. We all experience hard times to where a thing, such as excuses, is not a big deal in the big scheme of things. As an older woman with many life experiences, I’m more forgiving of people who are struggling with life. There are many reasons as to why a person doesn’t fully fulfill an obligation. Once you add kids, mortgage, a major crisis, death of beloved family members, heartache, aches and pains and huge set backs, little things become stupid stuff that don’t hold the same weight. Once a person loses their passion for life, they are no longer concerned if you do not like their excuses. One has to ask if your harping on their poor excuses truly has any value or not? Perhaps there is more value with trying to gain an understanding of a person’s plight versus continuing to break a broken person. It certainly makes sense that a person is not up to the challenge when they are carrying the weight of the world on their shoulders. Answering to another person about excuses just adds to the load. There is great value in the person who gets kicked down in the dirt and then proceeds to later rise up like the Phoenix. Not only do they rise, they go from giving 50% to 110% after having a major break through. We are all on a different paths and have different experiences that shape our views in life. There is major victory to get out of the “poor me” mindset and shift into the “warrior” mindset. May God help you if the reverse happens. I came from a family culture where you give 110% and anything less is just unacceptable. I now realize that, if you have emotional or physical impairments, giving 110% may not even be realistic. If today is a bad day, just try your best to get out of bed tomorrow and do much better tomorrow. For many of us, God has blessed us with great circumstances that gives us a home field advantage over others. For others, they are not aware that they have it good or it could always be much worse. Wherever you are in life, just know that you got this if you just focus and work harder each day. Instead of using excuses as to why you can’t, focus on how you can make it happen. Use the excuses you do have as fuel to figure out how to plan and do better. Over time, excuses will become a thing of the past. I sincerely wish you well wherever you are in life. Without entirely giving away the store, go ahead and check out the question and my response down below:

POSED QUESTION #1:

“What’s a good response to “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do”?”

By Onna Ward

MY RESPONSE to #1:

“Now that would certainly leave it WIDE open!! 🙂 #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous”

By Leslie M. Jasper

https://www.quora.com/What-s-a-good-response-to-Don-t-do-anything-I-wouldn-t-do/answer/Leslie-Jasper-3?prompt_topic_bio=1

POSED QUESTION #2:

“Where do excuses originate from?”

By Devin S

MY RESPONSE TO #2:

“I believe that excuses either originate from either a genuine unforeseen obstacle or just a complete lack of effort. With the complete lack of effort, you are now trying to justify your subpar behavior with empty words. An unforeseen problem can arise from a lack of experience with being able to anticipate future problems. An unforeseen problem can also pop up as a never experienced before issue even by the most experienced people on the team. If a person doesn’t do any form of strategic planning, then expect to run into some unforeseen hurdles. On the other hand, a person who does things half ass and now has to answer for their lack of efforts, they need to now do some explaining. Excuses during this moment sound like the lazy person is grasping for straws in order to account for their lack of accountability. For many, lazy people are the scourge of the Earth. Then again, there is a reason as to why this person chooses to not give 110%. They may very well be hiding physical or mental limitations that impede their progress. They may very well hope to fake it until they make it. There are many folks who do not even want to try to determine the exact steps of a task and just choose to wing it. When you do that, you are bound to run into problems that lead to offering excuses. Excuses may also very well be your way of verbally articulating, after the fact, as to your assessment of what exactly went wrong. Hopefully, the person issuing the excuses will use the feedback as fuel to get back on track and do better. On the other hand, even the most prepared person on the planet can encounter mistakes and unplanned road blocks. The older I get, I believe that not every problem is a major crisis. You can fall off the horse and get back on at any point. There are redeeming qualities for people who fall on their face, get back up, and become warriors. If anything, if you are not up to par, take the criticism on the chin, keep it moving, and do better. To many people, excuses sound like nails on a chalkboard. To others, excuses sound like barriers to support their bad behavior and poor foresight. There are some rather hard nosed folks who will say that there are no excuses allowed!! If you take a position like that, you damn well need to make sure you are perfect yourself. May you have great luck during your journey in life and have your excuses down to a bare minimum. The best lessons in life are your failures. #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous”

Advice: The Meaning Of A Compliment??

Photo Credit: The Verbally Disastrous Podcast- (2) New Episodes On Spotify

Hello Everyone!

How we doing on our Monday afternoon?? Here’s a gentle reminder that my first children’s book entitled, “Not All Girls Play With Dolls” is now live on Amazon in both paperback and as a Kindle, an iTunes e-book, and for Nook via Barnes & Noble!! As of today, the Barnes & Noble Nook e-book is still pending approval. I’m also sharing that my hashtags are #LeslieMJasper, #ConstructionTales, and #VerballyDisastrous. For this blog post, I’m sharing with you some more good ‘ole fashioned Quora advice. I opted to choose the subject matter on the meaning behind compliments. I don’t personally believe that there is a mystery behind a compliment. You just take the compliment, graciously say thank you, and keep it moving. The only time I would be concerned would be if the person was creepy and stalker-ish in nature. Without knowing what was complimented, it’s hard to analyze the situation further. How do you react to compliments? Do you come from a background where they didn’t exist? If so, it would make sense why you would have questioned if further. A person who gets compliments all of the time would not think much further than the surface. I’m aware that a person’s self esteem can be deeply impacted by compliments as well. The impact of a compliment can be long lasting and food for a person’s soul. Always remember to be kind to people and if the compliment is not accepted, don’t keep probing that person. If you keep deep diving into compliments toward a person, that can land you in hot water if they are unwanted. Just be careful, when passing out compliments, since some chicks can pretend to be okay with a compliment but then run to HR behind the scenes. Without giving away the store, go ahead and check out the question and my response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“What does it mean if someone compliments you?”

By The Tarotok

MY RESPONSE:

“Hhmm… there are a variety of reasons for a guy giving you a compliment. You may genuinely deserve the compliment since you worked really hard. The guy may think highly of you so offering a compliment seems reasonable. In other scenarios, he may be sexually attracted to you so he is throwing compliments your way in an effort to gauge your response. If you offer a favorable response, he may send more compliments your way. I don’t think a compliment is a bad thing. The only time it is bad is if it’s unwanted sexual advances. If that is the case, you just make it up that you have a very jealous boyfriend. I’m missing as to exactly what was said from the compliment in order to analyze even further. Hopefully, you just soak in the compliment, thank him, and keep it moving. Don’t go deeper into the meaning other than what was actually said. For all you know, the person may just be choosing to be kind. I wish you luck! #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous”

I recently shared my latest short story that has been loaded up to my Construction Tales-Told By A Woman Kindle Vella Library on Amazon. This is short story #11 entitled, “Juggling Motherhood & Working With The Tools”. This short story covers my life as a widowed, single mother in the era when I juggled both motherhood and my career as a journeywoman electrician. I share the various challenges I faced and lessons learned along the way. The previous short story is entitled: #10: “Early Life Lessons & Characters To Meet As An Apprentice”. I decided to write about some life lessons such as guarding your personal information, managing nasty rumors, combating sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and racism. Overall, the construction culture has improved dramatically over the past 25-years. Developing both a thick skin and a sharp tongue are key tools needed to survive various jobsite antics. I hope you learn something from this short story. There are more to come. These short stories are now also available as Verbally Disastrous podcast episodes.

Vol. #43: Showcasing (3) More Awesome Gang Authors!!

I intend on having the audio version of the book as well. Have you ever worked on getting a children’s book online? Are you a budding author who just launched your book/podcast!? It’s important to have all of the social media platforms and build your brand via networking with others. I find great power in the hashtag as well. My hashtags are #LeslieMJasper, #ConstructionTales, and #VerballyDisastrous. Share with me your hashtag and connect with me on social media. If you could also network with my 16-year-old son John’s “Call To Action Marketing” business (hashtag #CTAMarketing), that would be helpful and highly appreciated. This post is intended to share even more work of some independent authors, such as myself, and earn some good karma in the process. Why not offer you a taste of a variety of authors with different content? Let me know if you have discovered a new author during this “Showcased Author Series”? My objective is to pick out different authors that offer a variety of media content. For the record, I know nothing about the author other than what is showcased in the author article that was shared, via Awesome Gang. Feel free to copy and paste and share this content on your blog, if you like. As an author, if you want to add more information, drop it down in the comment section below and I will edit and add at my earliest convenience. For now, I’m connecting with the authors in an effort to build my author network. Hopefully, they will follow me back on social media. I’m game to cross promote each other on social media as well. Just let me know or re-tweet one of my posts and I will automatically return the favor on Twitter. I’m totally cool with many ways to help each other market each other. When you are a small content creator, it is important to help others out. I recently shared some free marketing websites in a blog post. I’ve even submitted #ConstructionTales to both Awesome Gang and Book Reader Magazine recently. I recently submitted my children’s book to Awesome Gang and Book Goodies while currently working on other avenues. My first children’s book #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls is intended to empower young kids to pursue their passions even if it is not normally the tradition in their society. Here are (3) showcased authors down below:

Showcased Author- 1.) J.P. Charles

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an afficianado of all things literary, automotive and have always been passionate about writing. For many years, it has been a lifelong dream to be a published author and tell a good story. I like to write short stories, poetry and have completed one full length novel which is a part of a series. When not writing, I enjoy working on cars and listening to all genres of music.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The romantic thriller that I completed is entitled The Rabbit and The Dragonfly and it has been inspired by a lot of elements of my personal life and experiences.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The works of Niholas Sparks, Ian Fleming and Stieg Larsson have been my main influences.

What are you working on now?
The sequel to my debut novel.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
To use all available resources such as social media and book clubs.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep your dreams alive and never settle for second best.

What are you reading now?
Dear John by Nicholas Sparks.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To move to California and get married.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The first four books by Terry Goodkind.

Showcased Author- 2.) Isla Ryder

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Isla Ryder grew up around horses but never owned one of her own, instead settling for riding lessons and every horse book she could find. When those books stopped being enough, she began writing her own. Throughout school, she loved creative writing classes and earned a BDIC degree from UMass Amherst. She has published a series of sweet cowboy romance novellas and loves working with other authors as an alpha reader and developmental editor.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Boundary Lines is the final book in my Harris Twins Series. It follows two brothers and their family ranch. I have always loved horses and have been riding as long as I can remember. I’ve been at many farms over the years, in all different riding disciplines and situations—show barns, auction barns, family farms—and I wanted to write something that I could use all those little experiences to make feel authentic. When I started book one of the series, I wasn’t sure it would be a series at all, but as I began, I knew there was much deeper to go and I couldn’t stand to leave the ranch just yet. Soon after, books two and three followed to round out the series.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write fast. I don’t do a lot of plotting or planning. I sit down and just type with a vague outline in mind. Characters always come to me through dialog and the way they speak for before I have a physical idea of them and I don’t worry much about searching my mind for those types of descriptions until I start revising. If I pause too long to worry about it, my flow is broken. Understanding what a first draft is for (getting the story down) has really helped my writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I like to read many genres. I don’t have many favorites, but I admire prolific writers—the ones that can’t seem to stop producing creative work. I connect with that need to create and hope someday to be among them.

What are you working on now?
Right now I am putting the finishing touches on a short story prequel to my Harris Twins Series that features the twins’ parents meet-cute and first date. It can be a total stand-alone but gives some fun tidbits for the main series, such as how the ranch gets its name. When I hit publish on Boundary Lines (book 3) I was bereft—I wasn’t ready to leave the ranch, so that same day I started this story and I can’t wait to share it with readers.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still learning about marketing, and love exploring really niche groups within my genre of sweet cowboy romance. I also love stepping outside of ‘reader specific’ areas and jumping into horse groups and pages. Horse people can be leery of horse fiction, and with good reason, as many writers don’t do enough research and have never lived the life. I enjoy offering something authentic to them and seeing them come around and get back into horse fiction without being worried about being pulled from the story by inaccuracies.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just start writing! I know that seems obvious but you can edit a draft but you can’t turn a blank page into a bestseller. Find someone who believes in you and your story and work with them or trade critiques. Be open to suggestions but know that you aren’t obligated to take 100% of someone’s advice. It is your story, after all!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I’ve heard echos the advice I like to give. I think I got the sentiment originally from a NaNoWriMo pep talk back in my senior year of high school when I did not know what I was doing, only that I wanted to write. And I did. I ‘won’ Nano that year with my 50k novel. Was it good? No, but it was finished—I had done it and that was enough to show me I could do it. The next time would be better, and the time after that it would be even more so. Even now, if I look back at my writing from only a few years ago, I can see how I’ve improved. You just have to keep writing and keep revising and you will make progress.

What are you reading now?
I am currently reading Like Water Catching Fire by E.M. Lindsey. While it is not a typical pick for me, I won it in a contest and am pleasantly surprised by it. It portrays a deaf character in a very realistic and sensible way that doesn’t feel likes it’s just for show or hashtags. It is also surprisingly sweet. I may look into more books from them.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Right now, I am working with a group of writer friends to create a sweet romance anthology. Collecting, critiquing and polishing up stories from many authors—both new and established is so fun and rewarding and has prompted me to make sure that my submissions are as good as they can be too. Next up will probably be a stand-alone equestrian romance based in the show-jumping world.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
There are very few books that I ever re-read but I can list them off in a heart-beat: The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster, Einsteins Dreams by Alan Lightman, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. My fourth would likely be House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. It’s a gorgeous book, but it has been on my nightstand waiting to be read for far too long.

Showcased Author- 3.) Michael Walker-Thomas

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an Educator, Author, Poet and Owner from Philadelphia, Pa. I found my love for writing at a young age by reading Encyclopedia Brown, Magic School Bus and Goosebumps. My writing influences are W.E.B. Du Bois, Carter G. Woodson, Jean Michel Basquiat and James Baldwin. I also love the movies Finding Forrester, He Got Game, Super 8 and Inception as writing inspirations. You can follow me on Instagram @ BookofMichael

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My most recent book, The Voices You May Not Hear: The Lost Pages, is a collection of poems about life and other avenues. The book is part 2 of a series that focuses on voices that you may not hear. The stories could be real and it puts the reader in the mind of the characters.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I just sit down and write. My writing process consists of Mozart, a piece of paper, and Twizzlers haha. I love just writing what comes to my mind and typing it. I have a gift of creating stories and I can’t write them out, I have to just write what comes to my mind.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have many haha. Maya Angelou, W.E.B Du Bois, Gwendolyn Brooks, Langston Hughes, James Baldwin. I have more, but those are my core five. One of my biggest book inspirations is The Souls of Black Folk by Du Bois.

What are you working on now?
I am working on two new book. I have on finished that I am waiting to put out. I am waiting on a few publishers to get back to me. These next three project I am very excited about.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon or Barnes and Nobles. I love also promoting on my Instagram.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I would tell them to write when they have an idea and thought. Do not wait to write a book or a page. If you want to write, WRITE!. A great writer loves what they do, it is the ideas that makes the writer.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do what you love and you will never work a day in your life.

What are you reading now?
I am currently reading Barack Obama’s new book. It is a great read.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am a few projects coming out and I am also going to be speaking at some events this summer. I have so much to look forward to as a writer. I am just getting started.

The Souls of Black Folk by W.E.B Du Bois
A Boy With a Dream by Michael Walker-Thomas
No Name in the Street by James Baldwin
Any Encyclopedia Brown Mystery Book

Vol. #42: Showcasing (3) More Awesome Gang Authors!!

Photo Credit: Front Cover Of Not All Girls Play With Dolls- illustrated By Tad_Art

Hello Everyone!

How goes your Friday afternoon my friend?? I’m happy to provide an update that my first children’s book entitled, “Not All Girls Play With Dolls” is now live in both paperback and as a Kindle and an iTunes e-book!! As of today, the Barnes & Noble Nook e-book is still pending approval. I also just submitted my children’s book to Awesome Gang and Book Goodies while currently working on other avenues. My first children’s book #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls is intended to empower young kids to pursue their passions even if it is not normally the tradition in their society. Do you have any requests for a specific author or style of content? Let me know your various suggestions down the in the comment section below. For now, here are (3) showcased authors down below:

Showcased Author- 1.) Tabitha Bouldin

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Madness in Wonderland is my tenth published book but my first in the steampunk fantasy genre. I started writing several years ago when story ideas refused to leave me alone. I thought I’d write them down and shove them into a drawer somewhere. Turns out, I like publishing stories.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Madness in Wonderland is an Alice in Wonderland and Frankenstein mashup steampunk fantasy novel. I was challenged to take two of my favorite classics and put them together into a novel, and Madness is what happened. I love the original Alice in Wonderland and retellings have always fascinated me, so I thought I’d give it a whirl for myself. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed writing a book more than Madness in Wonderland.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have to write early in the mornings. If I wait too late in the day, my creativity suffers and I end up reading all day. Not a bad way to spend the day, honestly.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles and A.G Howard’s Splintered series were instrumental in my own fantasy writing. Without their influence and the wonderful way they have with words, I’d never have dreamed of attempting to create my own fairy tale retelling.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on book three in the Beyond Wonderland series. Funny how one book turns into a trilogy without you. I wrote Madness in Wonderland and thought I’d be done, but then new characters started crowding in, and they wanted to adventure in Wonderland too, so I wrote Lost in Wonderland, which is book two in Beyond Wonderland. Again, thought that would satisfy the story world, but it ended up being hungry for a third book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m tinkering with a lot of different ideas at the moment.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Study the craft. Read lots of books in the genre you want to write in, and pour yourself into the project with the zeal of a toddler getting a new present. There will be hard days where you’ll want to quit. Remember those beautiful days and keep writing.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Write from the heart and you’ll never regret your stories.

What are you reading now?
Romanov by Nadine Brandes

What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing. Writing. More writing.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Oh, that’s tough. Let’s see.
Dust by Kara Swanson
Splintered by A.G. Howard
Cinder by Marissa Meyer
Caraval by Stephanie Garber

Showcased Author- 2.) Parker Avrile

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a full-time author of gay romance and romantic suspense since 2015, so I’m afraid to count up how many books I’ve written. Some reader favorites include The Runaway Model Trilogy, The Assured Elites Trilogy (known as the Gay Celebrity Dating Chronicles on Radish), the Last Chance Academy series, and many more.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Freshman Blues: A Gay New Adult Romance, is book #4 in the Last Chances Academy series. The series centers on an all-male college for bad boys where gay romance flourishes. I’ve always been interested in the glittering world of art crime. This book came from wondering about what it would be like to brought up as a professional burglar of high-end art objects. Could you turn your life around and find love as an adult?

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I wouldn’t consider it unusual, but I like to visit the locations I use in my books.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Shaun David Hutchinson (We Are the Ants) and Adam Silvera (They Both Die At the End). I don’t write that dark, though. Nobody dies at the end of my books. For some reason, I like to read much darker than I write.

What are you working on now?
I keep that close to my vest. I’ve learned you can “talk away” your ability to write a story.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I like to use the Bookbub newsletter. But I’m more a word-of-mouth author.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
There are millions of books already published. Don’t hurry your own work. Indie authors get pressured a lot to put out work in a hurry that isn’t ready, and all it does is set them back. Sometimes for years.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If it sounds too good to be true, it’s too good to be true. But you’ve already heard it. Hearing it is easy. Acting on it, on the other hand…

What are you reading now?
I just finished The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. Poor Patroclus, he really deserved better. Achilles was a spoiled brat!

What’s next for you as a writer?
Oh, I’m working on a new trilogy but we’ll keep that under wraps until it’s closer to done.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A book on survival at the Stone Age level, a book on how to build a raft, a blank book to record my own adventures.

Showcased Author- 3.) Kaitlyn Melody Klingensmith

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Kaitlyn, and I’m from Massachusetts. I currently live in Mexico, where I work as a librarian and a teacher. I’ve written lots of books, but Daughter of Olympus: Gods and Monsters is the first book I’ve ever published. I have ten brothers and sisters, and a wonderful little dog named Isabella. During my free time, I love to read, write, and Italian.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest (and right now only) book is called Daughter of Olympus: Gods and Monsters. I’ve been fascinated with Greek mythology for as long as I can remember, but I’ve always felt frustrated with the selfish behavior and misogyny amongst the Olympians. When I was thirteen, I decided to change that by writing my own version of events, so drafted Daughter of Olympus.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’m not sure if this is unusual, but I’m a binge writer. I have bipolar disorder, so I do most of my writing when I’m manic. I can go for months without writing anything, and then write nonstop for days.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Harry Potter! I learned to read later than most of my peers, and I thought I disliked reading until I discovered Harry Potter. It opened up a whole new world for me, where I could escape from my problems with a good book. J.K. Rowling got me reading, and inspired me to be a writer one day.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on two things right now! One is a rhyming children’s book called “Unicorns don’t wear pants,” and I’m also working on the second book in my Daughter of Olympus series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m new to promoting, so I don’t have a real method or website I’ve found reliable yet. I’m hoping Awesome Gang can help me with that!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write! It doesn’t matter if you think people will like your work or not, just put your story out there. When we write, we can make anything happen.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
It’s very cliché and overused, but my mom is always telling me to follow my heart. So far, I’ve never gone wrong by doing that.

What are you reading now?
Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m not really sure, but I’m taking a sabbatical from my job next year to focus on my writing, so I’m really hoping to finish Daughter of Olympus: Poseidon’s Gift.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Tess of the D’Urbervilles, by Thomas Hardy, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, by J.K. Rowling, The Red Pyramid, by Rick Riordan, and Dime Quien Soy, by Julia Navarro.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a independent business woman who understands the challenges women face in business, including how to be successful. I love connecting with women who have big dreams and the commitment to make a difference. I believe in the power of women when they come together to effect change, which is how the Divas That Care movement came about. I now have 4 Anthologies about these amazing women.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Animal Prints on My Soul is my latest anthology and the inspiration behind this, is my love for animals and how they have impact my life.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No I don’t think so.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
There are so many authors that have inspired me over the years. People like John Wood, Gloria Steinem, and Dale Carnegie are just a few.

What are you working on now?
As a mother of four daughters, I know the dynamics of raising a new generation of women. My newest Anthology will be a collection of wisdom and enlightenment around this topic by writing and sharing lessons learned from our highest accomplishments to the lowest valleys. In addition, i want to explore the unique relationships and bonds between mothers and daughters and hopefully inspire a new generation of mothers through this new book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Word of mouth has been the best way to promote my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice would be to not give up. There are so many people out there that are willing to help you on your journey, you just need to find them.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just Keep Swimming.

What are you reading now?
The Sea of Trolls with my daughter.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I am looking at collaborating with a few other women on some writing projects.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Big Girl Panties because it makes me laugh, practical permaculture because I could read about gardening all day long and clan of the cave bear.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello, Readers! In the first place, I am an avid reader, too – and a picky one (who gets bored pretty easily, by the way). Therefore, to satisfy cravings for novelty and surprise, the pilot trilogy was designed to fill the imagination gap in fiction literature. Rather than re-iterating common themes (such as superpowers, time travel, murders, synchrotron explosions, etc∙), the three books present completely unheard-of mysteries. Stay tuned! This is just a prelude to a much bigger puzzle…

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
As the title “The Mystery of the Rammed Key” suggests, the story was inspired, well… by the discovery of an antique key ingrown in the wood of a robust old tree! The blackened handle was protruding from the bark, and that’s where all the wonders, quests for possible explanations, and wild fantasies started. Now you can dive in the intricate fictive drama loaded with action, sparks of humor, and unexpected twists of events.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
J∙ Verne (several books) — A∙ C∙ Doyle (The Lost World; Sherlock Holmes) — T∙ Heyerdahl (Kon-Tiki) — J∙ K∙ Rowling (Harry Potter) — A∙ Dumas (Monte Cristo) — L∙ M∙ Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables) — A∙ Kazancev (The Destruction of Faena)

What are you working on now?
The three previous cases (the forgotten chest, the rammed key, the Cursed Forest) are somehow interconnected. The roots of such relation can be tracked back to remote history and foggy ancient times. Now it’s the moment to gratify the readers’ curiosity with additional discoveries emerging in the broader plot.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Still waiting for one to come…

What are you reading now?
Obnoxious accounting manuals and international tax return instructions.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To get published in English.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Wonder why? You will understand later, after reading the next parts of the book series – featuring a mystery hunter disguised as a local speech therapist, together with his dedicated helpers (of all ages), fighting together the bestial enemies of the truth and progress (of many sorts, powers and methods of operation).

Showcased Author- 3.) Dr Grace Anderson (also known as Gracy Ukala)

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a retired teacher who was the Outstanding Headteacher of Emotan College, Benin City, Nigeria, before relocating to London, UK. While in London, I was the Head of English Departments in of two Secondary Schools, and also the Manager of a Learning Support Unit in a Boys’ Secondary School in London.

I currently spend my time writing or providing a Life Coaching Service on Personal Development and Relationship issues.

I am an award-winning novelist. My first novel – Dizzy Angel (UPL, 1985), won several awards in Nigeria, Switzerland and other places. Dizzy Angel tackles the traditional beliefs in the Nigerian Society which tend to relegate women to the background in the early 50s and 60s. Ogbanje, the heroine in Dizzy Angel, struggles to pull herself and her family out of the strangle hold of unhealthy traditional beliefs because she and her father, Dolise, were determined that she should get some education.

My second novel – The Broken Bond (2001) is very popular. It is studied by many University Students who have written many reviews on the issues discussed in this novel – especially, as it affects women and their ability to survive in a male-dominated Society.

My third novel – Ada in London, Surviving the Traumas (2005), is also very popular and really interesting to read. This is a Memoir, and it tells the story of Ada’s wrenching from her beloved job as Headteacher, her struggles to get to grips in a foreign place, London, and all the pain and suffering of being alone, being treated badly by racists and suffering serious poverty etc. In the end, her marriage breaks up as a result of her husband’s infidelity and extreme bad treatment.
Ada in London is an excellent read. It is racy and full of suspense.
As one reviewer says:
“Once you start reading Ada in London, you won’t want to put it down! The suspense is superb. It is a heart-rending story, so well-told that it is totally enjoyable. I can’t recommend it enough.!” Editor: African Echo, London.

My other books include:
– HOW TO FIND AND SUSTAIN A GREAT RELATIONSHIP by Dr Grace Anderson
This is an Online Dating and Relationship Guide. Very popular.

– HIS & HERS DAILY GRATITUDE JOURNAL by Dr Grace Anderson
This is a daily Journal to help you stay positive and grateful for the blessings in your life, however small.

– SENIOR CITIZENS’ DAILY LOGBOOK
This is a very useful logbook for the elderly – especially those in care or nursing homes. This logbook will help them remember planned activities like medication, meals, etc.

– MOTHER AND BABY’S DAILY LOG – FIRST TWELVE MONTHS by Grace Andy.
This logbook is for Young or New Mothers as well as expectant mothers. The importance of this logbook is the fact that you can record your baby’s progress from Day 1 to when he/she reaches one year old. Very useful memories to keep for your child to see when he or she grows up.

– YOUNGSTERS’ READING LOG
This is a Reading Journal for young people from age 5 onward. It can also be used by adolescents and adults to record interesting parts of a book they have read, especially the reviews of various characters, etc. Keeping a reading log will greatly improve the reader’s literacy and literary skills.

You can access all my books on my website: https://graceandersonsbooksandjournals.com.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Ada in London – Surviving the Traumas (Second Edition).
I decided to include extra information in the book to help readers understand its purpose much better.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No, not really.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have been influenced by such authors as:
Chinua Achebe: Things Fall Apart.
Camara Laye: The African Child.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a new novel that delves deeper into the concept of reincarnation.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My first choice is Amazon Adverts
and then Free Book Promotion Websites like this one.
I also promote my books on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
All I can tell any one who wants to write is – Just do it! Don’t be frightened of the results. Just write. After you have written your first chapter, take a good look at it to correct errors – eg, using Grammarly, or other such software.

It pays to have a plan of all the Chapters, your characters and the various events first, so that you will be surer that you are working according to plan.

If you don’t try, you won’t ever know how much of a wonderful author you could become!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I ever heard was from my English Teacher in the grammar School I attended: She told me to: “believe in yourself and you’ll get others to believe in you!”

What are you reading now?
I am currently reading a book called: Atlantis in the Amazon by Richard Wingate.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Write more books and sell more books.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would take my some Spiritual Books with me to remind me that I am never alone – that God or the Holy Spirit is always with me.
Spiritual Lessons From Living – Harold Klemp
The Shariyat Ki Sugmad – Paul Twitchell
The Bible

Vol. #40: Showcasing (3) More Awesome Gang Authors!!

Showcased Author- 1.) Tobi Hawker

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi there, I have written 1 book so far with more to come. I am married and a mother of 2 children. I love growing and making medicinal medicines with herbs. I love nature and all that is in it. I am always trying to learn what I can forage or grow that can make natural medicine. To heal with plants & nature. I have been a healer all my life and I started healing others about 15yrs ago. It truly is who I am not what I do. I. decided I wanted to write a book to try to reach out to others in any way possible to help them. To help you. 🙂 So if my writing can do that, my knowledge and my passion reaches you, then I am forever grateful that I was able to.

You need to FEEL it to HEAL it!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my book is “The Journey of Self-Healing: Everything You Need to Know About Truly Healing Yourself and Helpful Suggestions to Guide You Through It”
My years of healing others and myself inspired me to write my book. Also that I wanted to reach out to as many people as I could all over the world and to write a book that was “real” down to earth and honest.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No I wouldn’t say that I do.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Well I have always been a reader but not in this genre haha. But I must say years ago I read a couple books by Paulo Coelho, they were The Pilgrimage and the The Alchemist. I found them quite interesting and made me think things differently. They were “soul stirring” if you understand what I mean. I suppose that started a different path for me.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on how water is very healing and the benefits of healing yourself with water.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Well I am finding Twitter a fantastic method of promoting my book. The writing community on there is very supportive and helpful. Now trying another avenue which I am very new at haha but seems to quite supportive also and that is TikTok believe it or not.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice since I am still a new author myself is dont’ give up. It gets frustrating when your not seeing the sales or the promotions to get your book out there, you work your butt off trying and your not seeing it pay off but it will. Having some money helps where you can pay for ads and such but otherwise just keep going, believe in yourself, know that your book is a good one and just don’t give up!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I ever heard was to stay true to myself and no not worry about what others think of me or what I do. To just keep “doing” me. 🙂

What are you reading now?
I just finished up a book called “A Comprehensive Guide for Adult Women Navigating ADHD: Techniques and Skills to Positively Transform Your Life and Take Charge of Adult ADHD” for a fellow author. It is her first book out and it was fantastic and very interesting. I learned things from this book and could relate.

What’s next for you as a writer?
What’s next? Just going to keep on writing and to try and help whomever I can that wants it. Maybe down the road I would like to write childrens book but where there is still healing and helping involved.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Now that is a loaded question haha. That would be hard for me to answer as I like a lot of different kinds of books. I suppose I am a big fantasy/paranormal reader so I would have to take a book in that genre and possibly a book in the self help genre just to keep me grounded and definitely one or two of the how to’s/survival guide so I could actually survive on a desert island lol.

Showcased Author- 2.) M.J. Fitzmaurice

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m semi-retired, former software trainer for a large company, former customer service manager for Northern California quick service restaurant distributor. Former truck driver. Currently book marketing coach and writer. I’ve written three books in the urban fantasy genre, one book in epic fantasy, one book in non-fiction self help for authors and several short stories and poems.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My current book is being offered on Amazon Vella and is called ‘The Bottled Gods’. It’s urban fantasy with witches, Fae, werewolves, demons, and vampires. It was inspired I suppose, by the substance addiction issues within my family. The villain of the story, uses alcoholics by turning them into killers.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have no idea. What would be considered unusual????

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King, Nora Roberts, Lee Child, and Janet Evanovich. From my childhood, I’d have to go with the three horsemen of Science Fiction: Arthur C. Clarke, Isaac Asimov, and Robert A. Heinlein. Others are Eoin McNamee, Anthony Doerr, Eowyn Ivey (if you haven’t read it, get “The Snow Child” god, that book had me in a daze for a week after I finished it), Samuel R. Delaney, Douglas Adams, Scott Meyer, Dennis Taylor, John Scalzi. I’m sure there are many more I’m just not remembering.

What are you working on now?
Finishing up book 3 of the The Shasha’s Team series, getting ready to rewrite an epic fantasy I wrote a couple years ago called “The Village at the Crossing”, which will be book 1 of a series entilted ‘The Unharmed”.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m still looking for that! I guess BookBub has done the most for me.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Get an editor!!!! Be serious if you want to be an author. Collaborate, KNOW WHO YOUR AUDIENCE IS, and for god’s sakes don’t skimp on the cover design.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
There are a lot of good storytellers out there. The successful ones know that to be successful, writing is 60% of the job and marketing is 40%.

What are you reading now?
‘Hot Ice’ by Nora Roberts

What’s next for you as a writer?
I will finish writing three books in the series ‘The Unharmed”. My goal is to get to twenty books before 2024.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
oh god. “The Winning Hand” by Nora Roberts, Jack Reacher “the Killing Floor, Stranger in a Strange Land, and Into the Magic Shop by James R. Doty.

Showcased Author- 3.) Carolyn V. Hamilton

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve been actively writing since 2001 and my first novel was published in 2004. To date, I have 20 published books@amazon.com, including for adult coloring books.

I suspect I’m a genre conflicted, since I’ve published in the romance, mystery, memoir, and nonfiction categories. I just have a lot of interests.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest publication is “99 Writing Prompts for Memoir and Journal Writers Who Are Stuck.”

Since I have published three memoirs, I have developed a career coaching aspiring memoir writers. This latest book is the fourth in a series of nonfiction books aim to help memoir writers.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I prefer to dictate my stories rather than type them. I love the voice-to-text option in Microsoft word and I also use the website otter.ai.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
My favorite nonfiction authors are Elmore Leonard and Carl Hiaasen. I love their quirky characters and surprising plots.

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on a series of online courses for memoir writers, and I have two more book ideas for them. Then I would really like to get back to fiction writing. I have had a series of female detective stories in mind for several years, and it’s time to get serious about them!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Whether you love them or hate them, Amazon does a great job of helping authors promote their books. I’m always amazed when I hear someone say they don’t want to do business with Amazon for some kind of personal belief. Why don’t you just shoot yourself in your writing hand?

Almost all of my paid advertising is at Amazon.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I always advise new authors to read as many books as possible in the genre in which you want to write. This is the only way to absorb and learn what is selling that is similar to what you want to write. Once I met a woman who was writing a romance novel, and when I asked her, “Who is your favorite romance author?” she replied, “Oh I don’t read romance. I read sci-fi.” Duh!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I have ever heard was, “Keep writing and don’t quit your day job.”

What are you reading now?
Right now I am reading just about every book that’s on Amazon about Amazon advertising. I am determined to master this, and create the best ROI I can.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Next for me as a writer? Simply more of the same on a step-by-step basis.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
All Carl Hiaasen novels.

Just Loaded To iTunes: Not All Girls Play With Dolls!! (51 Countries)

Photo Credit: Not All Girls Play With Dolls -Coming to iTunes

Hello Everyone!

Guess who is back on here to harass you on this rainy a$$ Thursday afternoon?? I’m absolutely excited to share that I just loaded #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls to iTunes!! As I shared before, I was also able to load up my Not All Girls Play With Dolls epub. document to both Amazon and Barnes & Noble too!! I found it rather intimidating since I’m not an Apple person at all!! I was thinking that I needed a Mac Book or to get on my iPad to figure that process out! I was mentally preparing myself to just figure it out and not get frustrated with the process and any roadblocks. To my surprise, I actually found the right information on the iConnect website and found out how to load it without having to download a program. Talk about being super pleased with my completion of this task!! I can’t stress it enough how happy I am with accomplishing this mission! Back in 2013 when I first released Construction Tales, I had to beg my teenage son at the time to help me with loading it to iTunes. The process felt overwhelming and required having an Apple product in order to load it. I have come such a long ways in the past 10-years with my technical navigation skills! I’m not saying that I’m ready for an IT job, I just never wanted to learn back when I worked with the tools. I felt like I didn’t need to learn since my sons can help me. Once I started teaching myself how to podcast in the past year, I guess I got more and more comfortable with trying to figure out computer things. Here are my (2) iTunes iBook links for both books that are available in 51 countries worldwide:

Just Released!! #ConstructionTales On Pen & Pro$per!!

Hello Everyone!

How are you all on this rainy a$$ Thursday morning?? I’m coming to you live from the construction site here in New York City. As I shared before, I was successfully able to load up my Not All Girls Play With Dolls e-pub. document to both Amazon and Barnes & Noble! I’m waiting for the Nook e-book to go live. As promised, I’m sharing with you a newly released article, courtesy of Jennifer Brown Banks, from Pen and Pro$per newsletter. The article has been released in honor of Women’s History Month. As I have so eloquently stated before, I’m totally honored to be included in Pen & Pro$per. I’m now sharing the newsletter link so you can check out her content:

http://penandprosper.blogspot.com/2022/03/5qs-with-author-leslie-jasper-of.html

I had previously featured her Awesome Gang author article so that’s how we connected. Since she is doing me a solid with including me in her magazine, I’m going to return the favor and promote some of her work. This collection of poems in a book was just released on February 22, 2022. Here is Jennifer Brown Bank’s poetry work, “Ode to Toni Morrison” that is available on Amazon:
