CONSTRUCTION TALES- TOLD BY A WOMAN: (7) SHORT STORIES ON AMAZON!!
I released another short story on working with one of the worst apprentices, who earned the nickname Lucky, in the history of my career. The unique thing about this guy was that EVERYONE I worked with also had huge challenges working with the guy. As an apprentice, it is our obligation to teach them as journeyman/woman. In turn, it is their obligation to absorb what we teach and move accordingly. I even took the time to break down the task into a step-by-step method. He would then go do what he wanted and it was an absolute disaster. Out of anyone in the shop, I had the most patience with him. This is a guy that would never ever be able to become a contractor and work on his own. He was missing many key characteristics that it takes in order to work on a project from cradle to grave solo. I now have shared (7) short stories to my Kindle Vella Library. They are short stories that will become the makings of my next book within the #ConstructionTales series that will be entitled, Construction Tales: Volume II: My Illuminated Path Continues.. I certainly hope you enjoyed your Labor Day Weekend if you indeed celebrate it. If you do not celebrate Labor Day, let me know what holiday(s) you do observe in September? I went with friends for part of the weekend down to my friend’s house in New Jersey. My holiday plans were ruined because my SUV got impacted by Hurricane Ida on Wednesday. This was two days before I was scheduled to go down to my buddy’s efficiency unit that sits just south of the boardwalk at Seaside Heights, New Jersey. I was busy having to remove the buckets of water out of my Honda. I think it may act okay once the water dries fully. The wait to see if it is okay is very stressful. I asked my roommate at the last minute to watch the dog. I had a friend set up as a dog sitter. However, I couldn’t travel since I didn’t trust my haywire computer in my car. I need to start using a kennel so I don’t have to ask anyone to watch my dog and have them attempt to control/limit my social activities. I slept on an air mattress and ended up having back problems as a result of sleeping on it. Therefore, having to come back early because of my dog and back was necessary so I can medicate with muscle relaxers. I plan to take more tonight to continue loosening up. Despite the flooding frustration, I’m pleased to say that I have gotten about 6K hits on my Verbally Disastrous YouTube channel. It appears to be continued to be viewed. I figured I might as well post since it was happening and I can’t control it. I have managed to gain more followers in the process. I posted a video, that I loaded today, where I joked while recording about finding some witch rides at a strip mall. I also posted a video of catching an NYPD car driving on the wrong side of the street here in Queens.

Despite my ongoing personal flooding issues as a result of Hurricane Ida, I am so thankful that you all have taken your valuable time to listen to my Audio Blog on the podcast platform of your choice. You are so appreciated that I cannot properly articulate the depth of my gratitude. I most sincerely wish you a wonderful Friday evening/morning/afternoon on your side of the globe. I thank you for stopping by to support my content! Since you are still here, I am going to keep sharing my latest podcast episodes. I recently took a break last week to hang out with my family. I didn’t end up recording a podcast episode at camp since Wi-Fi was terrible. I know that I owe you all a new podcast episode. It is coming soon so that I can share the new episode on my Verbally Disastrous YouTube channel and the podcast platform of your choice. I am going to my buddy Chris’ condo that is at Seaside Heights, New Jersey tomorrow in honor of my birthday. I tried getting out of it due to my ongoing flooded car issues. I was trying to spend the upcoming weekend moping around at home crying in my beer. However, they are picking me up and dropping me off so I am going. I am bringing the microphone so that we can all sit around and record a podcast episode this weekend. I will share as soon as I edit it and launch it on my podcast platforms. I thank you for stopping by and listening to the audio blog. I can’t say enough how much you are appreciated. Have a better weekend than me and I shall talk to you all soon! Take care! Peace out, Cub Scout!

I sure as hell hope you have been having a way better past few days than I have been enduring?! I know that I have been pounding you with multiple posts within the past few days! I am sure as hell making up for lost time. I am STILL praying that there is not too much water damage in my flooded Honda CRV. As of now, it is still too soon to tell. I have a feeling that I will need to make an insurance claim. My neighborhood, where I am staying, got flooded with about 4 feet of water within a 1.5 to 2 hour time frame last night, courtesy of Hurricane Ida. As of now, the car went from absolutely dead to being ready to start up. I was up until 3AM and had a rough time going to sleep. It was still raining hard early in the AM so I couldn’t go out there and work on the car. Working in the dark would also present itself as being a challenge. I was then up early and spent the whole damn day drying out my car and washing the towels used to get rid of water from my floorboards and clothes in my gym bag that were soaked. Last night, we experienced absolutely crazy rains that I have ever experienced while here in Bayside, Queens. I should have heeded the warning and drove up home or my friend’s house in the suburbs. It is usually Manhattan that gets hit with massive flooding. In case you don’t know, Queens is one of the five boroughs of New York City. My eyes couldn’t believe that I was seeing massive flooding. Up until now, it was just a concept I saw on the five o’clock news. I ran out and started filming it while praying that it stopped! I figured I might as well record it and submit on YouTube since my goal is to become a monetized content creator. Thankfully, my SUV was not totally submerged and I am grateful for that! I have never endured this type of flooding before. I have lived on a big hill, for many years since 1996, in the suburbs 50 miles north of New York City. Here is the latest video that I captured and posted this morning. I literally filled the blue bucket three times to get rid of the water that was located where my spare tire sits in the trunk. I figured why not poke fun at the situation and call it my personal swimming pool. I need to lighten the situation with humor since it truly makes me sick to my stomach! In honor of my birthday, I am going with my friends to Seaside Heights, New Jersey to spend Labor Day Weekend. I wanted to stay home but my friends are picking me up so I can go along with them. Here is my latest video that was taken while removing the water from my Honda:

My sons Tom and Johnny have decided to start a family tradition with an annual amateur boxing match. The first boxing match was held in the sand at Jones Beach in Long Island, New York. Johnny said it was way harder to box in the sand versus a flat level surface. For the second annual boxing match, they opted to choose the last night of camping to box it out. I was concerned about them breaking the brand new ping pong table while boxing. Thankfully, it remained unharmed. As I mentioned in my previous posts, I chose a camping spot about 3 hours northwest of New York City in Franklin, New York. We had a relatively private spot by a running stream with a good sized plot of land. The size of property was perfect for doing various activities and holding a boxing match. I created the video, using Wondershare Filmora, to document the boxing match. The watermark is not that annoying to me. As a relatively new content creator, I didn’t opt to invest in paying for the video. At some point, I will work on going back and fixing videos with the watermark. I have placed a prize of $80 on the winner of the boxing match. However, they need 100 votes before I will issue out the cash. The winner must be voted for in my comment section of the Verbally Disastrous Podcast. I don’t want to be on a million different social media platforms counting votes. Check out the video and let me know who the winner was for this year. Here is the link below:

Let me know what you think about the boxing match? Who is the clear winner? Did you check out their very first boxing match on Jones Beach? As I stated previously, in order for one of my sons to win the prize, they need 100 comments on the video choosing the winner. You are the best for getting involved and picking out the winner. Yes, I have been off the internet grid since last week with my writings in an effort to have quality time with my family. Now that I am back, I have shared some YouTube videos of the adventure and gave a little review of the kamp cabin experience in my previous posts. Now that I am back, I am reviewing questions on Quora in an effort to find an interesting topic. The question I chose to discuss on asks about the practice of “brake checking” the driver behind you. If you are a driver, you know all about the subject of road rage. As a driver of the streets of New York City, I find road rage as a huge challenge to harness. In the Big Apple, we are always on the go and under quite a bit of stress. I believe that road rage is not exclusively limited to just large metropolitan cities. Perhaps road rage is less of an issue in small towns. Angry and aggressive people are also angry and aggressive on the highway. I saw video clips of traffic in heavily populated cities in foreign countries such as India. According to the Hindustan Times, the most heavily congested roads are in large Indian cities such as: Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Delhi. These heavily congested cities came in at #2, #6, #8 and #16 on the most recent TomTom world traffic index. I would be extremely interested to hear from my readers from India about how they deal with traffic? As a driver in these cities, are you cool as a cucumber or enraged like a hot chili pepper? I would totally welcome any road rage stories from anyone and anywhere in the globe. I stumbled upon this road rage question that was posed on Quora. The question asks about the meaning of someone “brake checking” you. According to the Urban Dictionary, here is the definition of brake checking. While driving, you make the choice of hitting your brakes really hard to scare the crap out of the jerk driving two inches from your rear bumper. Be sure to check to make sure that the rear driver has enough time to brake without rear-ending you. The goal of the brake check is to just piss off the driver behind you. What it can do is make the rear driver extremely aggressive and escalate the road rage situation to where the two parties and nearby innocent bystanders are at risk for a multi-car pile up, injury, and even death. Behavior like this can possibly lead to, if convicted, prison under manslaughter charges. Yes, it is one of the most foolish behaviors you can do on the road. Despite brake checking, you don’t really want to be crashed into from behind. The goal is to just check the rear driver, scare him, make him back off, or mildly enrage the rear driver. Here in the U.S., our insurance company assigns blame to us if we rear end another driver for any reason. After an accident, the at fault driver’s insurance will increase to pay for the damages paid out by the insurance company. This is why it is important to look alive at all times while driving behind other drivers in their cars. This is also why it is very stupid to put all parties in danger no matter the reason. It is wise to leave your ego at home and try to get from point A to point B as safely as possible. If you have passengers, you owe it to them to get them to the destination as safely as possible. Lastly, don’t take what other drivers do so personally. You have no idea their story or what they have on their plate in life. They are merely reacting based upon a perception of observed behavior. Here is the posed question below and my response that was posted on Quora:
POSED QUESTION:
“What does it mean when someone brake checks you?”
Aayush Mahera
MY RESPONSE:
“When a person brake checks you, they are mad that you are too close to the back of their car. They may be mad that you had just cut them off previously or performed some form of aggressive driving. The front driver may be angry that the rear person is pushing the front driver to travel at a higher speed than they desire via creating a short gap between bumpers. The rear driver may be highly frustrated that the front driver is driving in the left lane who belongs in the right lane. In the United States, drivers travel in the opposite direction compared to England and other countries. When multiple lanes are established for each direction, the right lane is for travel and the left lane is for passing. Many travelers opt to drive ‘slow’ in the left lane instead of moving to the right lane and let other drivers pass. I admit that I have a lead foot and I can’t stand it when a ‘slow’ driver opts to stay in the left lane! I try to dial back any frustration with the aggressive behavior of others. You have to remember everyone is going through something in life. Anger brings on such foolishness and rash decisions. Road rage is a very serious issue on the highway. It is not good at all to be willing to create a serious rear end collision that ruins your vehicle, your body, and endangers the life of all passengers in both vehicles by slamming on the brakes. It is indeed selfish behavior in fit of anger to attempt to control the behavior of the driver behind you. The brake checker move is totally counting on the driver behind him to react quickly to their actions. When you think about it, why would you put your life in someone else’s hands by brake checking? In the big scheme of things, a driver giving an obscene finger to another driver is not worthy of creating a potentially deadly automobile accident. Aggressive driving is also not worth the risk of a deadly accident. However, when you are behind the wheel, the aggressive actions of another driver is very hard to ignore. One driver can be totally convinced that the other driver’s behavior is totally personal. In reality, the aggressive driver is running late and the other driver has no sense of urgency and standing in their way. The driver may even perceive that the slow driver is doing it on purpose. People all have different agendas and ways of driving when out on the highways. These are all things to consider when on the road. I wish you great luck on the highway.”
Well, what do you think about road rage? Do you believe angry drivers are absolute fools? Are you guilty of driving aggressively on the highway? If not, are you aware that your slow driving can be a huge source of frustration for other drivers in a hurry? Have you ever brake checked another driver? Did the brake check result in a rear end collision? I’m sure, when you reflect back, that you are grateful that the rear driver reacted quickly to your braking if guilty of brake checking another driver. At the very least, no matter what side of the discussion you are on, this causes you to reflect and think about your role while on the road. I know I have been guilty of driving fast and having little patience for slow drivers throughout my driving career. As I have gotten older, I have tried to slow down and not take road rage so damn personal. We must remember that the other driver doesn’t even know us. We are only a momentary blip on the radar of the life journey of the other driver. We can’t change the past, we can only do better moving forward. This wraps up my thoughts on the topic of road rage. Out of all of the options on the internet, I am honored that you stopped by my blog. You are highly appreciated and I wish you a great Wednesday evening/morning/afternoon on your side of the globe. A few weeks ago, I released another short story on working with one of the worst apprentices, who earned the nickname Lucky, in the history of my career. Construction Tales: Told By A Woman by Leslie M. Jasper- short stories for Kindle Vella on Amazon:

How the hell are you holding up on your side of the globe today? Are we having a good or bad week this week? If you are having a good week, just take a shot of the whiskey of your choice. If you are having a bad week, take two shots of whiskey. I hope you are experiencing as much peace and calm as possible in your world. As I stated a few times on my previous posts, I apologize for going off the grid for the past week and not blogging. I did head to the main lodge and loaded up one blog post saying what I was up to for the week and some YouTube videos. I had fun spending quality time with my family in a secluded Kamp Cabin. We were lucky to have a corner unit next to a stream. The nearest camp site was unoccupied so it felt very private. We were able to play music and run movies late at night with no one complaining. This campsite belongs to a KOA Campground franchise. This KOA Campground is located in Franklin, NY that is not far from the college town Oneonta. The spot is roughly 3-hours northwest of New York City. As I mentioned in my two previous posts, I was born and raised along the southern Oregon coast. Camping is very much a huge past time back when I was growing up. I can’t really think of many people as a kid who didn’t go camping at some point. I have even went, along with my dad, remote camping where you didn’t shower or even have an outhouse. I had spent a week in the woods hunting with my dad for deer. I have camped many times in a tent with just a sleeping bag. Sadly, my back today could not handle sleeping in a tent while just in a sleeping bag on the ground. It would be too much of a painful experience for me. I have to carry a 3-inch foam topper and put it on the Kamp Cabin bed since it was too hard. Based upon my childhood, I am very much drawn and super comfortable in the woods. I am not a tv person so I didn’t feel withdrawals from not watching tv for the week. Because of being in the woods upstate, I didn’t have good cell service and great Wi-Fi at my cabin. There was Wi-Fi closer to the central lodge which was helpful from being totally disconnected from the outside world. Thankfully, I opted to chill out each day and soak in nature instead of being online. I struggled with trying to read a book. I really tried to read a book over the past week. I believe that the heat and humidity made it a struggle for me to feel calm enough to sit and read. I brought two books with me and didn’t do much reading at all. I brought my laptop just in case I wanted to do any writing. The mosquitos biting my ankles, despite being sprayed, served as a distraction as well. Look at me; I’m bitching about the downside of camping. Time to shut that up and move on. Then again, most people I know in New York would not use an umbrella to continue watching movies in the rain.
Thankfully, my sons have also learned how to be decently comfy in the woods. They struggled with the heat and humidity since we didn’t have an air conditioner for the week and went home a day early. Since I paid for it, I stuck it out solo on Saturday until checking out on Sunday morning. I am good with sipping some booze and camping alone. Since I didn’t have my dog Daisy with me, I opted to check out and hit Howe Caverns that was an hour northeast of the campsite. Howe Caverns was discovered and was named after farmer Lester Howe, who discovered the cave on May 22, 1842. He first noticed some cows standing next to a cave opening in the heat instead of going under a tree for shade. The cave remains a constant temperature of 52 degrees Fahrenheit, irrespective of the outside weather. By 1843, the cave was opened up for 8-hour tours. It appeared that Lester Howe ran into some financial difficulties despite the tours and building a hotel over the cave. A group got together to re-open the caves by Memorial Weekend back in May of 1929. It appears that the same building, from back in 1929, is still in tact and in decent shape. For the current tour, I walked along a paved and railed path to check out the different natural formations until we approached Lake Venus. Our group loaded into two boats and floated to a point where you can hear a roaring waterfall beyond. I was honestly amazed to see the amount of senior citizens that were willing to trek the caves. You are not allowed to bring a purse of any kind down there, phones and cameras are allowed, no bubble gum (I broke that rule), and you will need a sweater. Once you complete the boat ride, you go up a set of steps and check out this little chapel area where there are weddings held. There is a calcite formation that is shaped in the form of a heart and is glued to the deck. There is a superstition that you will be married within the year if you touch the heart. My silly ass went ahead and recorded myself touching it. When I load my videos to the Verbally Disastrous YouTube channel, that video of me fooling around will be in the collection. The last part of the walk is this very narrow winding path. If you are claustrophobic, you may not like the tight quarters of the last leg of the trek. Once you complete the trail, we pile into the elevator and head back upstairs. You have the option to purchase items in the gift shop, pick up some Howe Caverns cheese, fudge, candy, or a bite to eat in the cafe. It was an educational experience that I am glad that I checked out. It’s pretty damn cool to see the lantern burns on the rocks from tourists from 100-years ago.
How did you spend your month of August? How about the rest of the summer? Did you find family time to spend with your group? You need to plan now since kids grow up and move out of the house very quickly. Have you ever visited any of the locations that I checked out this summer? Let me know in the comment section below. Is your family into camping? If not, are you interested in trying it for the very first time? Camping is the best opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family in an non-distracted way. What’s so bad about spending time around a camp fire while drinking soda or beer with your group? It’s an excellent experience to have with your clan. A fire, your dog, and the camp’s noise will keep wild animals away. They fear us way more than we fear them. This is the time to play board games and other activities as a family. My sons got me a huge collapsible screen, a projector, a Wi-Fi adapted DVD player, and a mini waffle maker for my birthday. I highly value the opportunity to have future family nights all together watching movies. Thankfully, there was a swimming pool on the campground complex that we took advantage of regularly on hot days. In my previous blog posts, I have so far shared quite a few videos on my Verbally Disastrous YouTube channel. I plan to get back to even more blogging and working on the newest podcast episode very soon. I am going to Seaside Heights, NJ with friends for Labor Day weekend. I have a good friend with an efficiency unit on the south end of the Seaside boardwalk. My normal routine will resume after this upcoming weekend. I have a deep sea fishing trip also scheduled for next week as well. I’m quite sure I will share videos from that upcoming fishing trip as well. I thank you for stopping by my blog to read my content and check out the long line-up of YouTube videos. You are highly appreciated and I wish you a great Tuesday evening/morning/afternoon on your side of the globe. I thank you for stopping by! Now, I am sharing my latest podcast episode. It was released and shared on my Verbally Disastrous YouTube channel and the podcast platform of your choice. I have released Episode #32 below on many platforms:
