I am sharing a slide show of one of my many renovation projects. I recently found renovation photos in an old computer so I plan to put them together in future slide shows. I kick myself for not better documenting other projects over the years. I learned how to use the #Animoto program to create a slide show of my photos of my 2013 renovation project. I started that project in June of 2013 after parting ways with a long term relationship. This work was done in the evenings and weekends when I had free time to work on it. I I loaded an audio to the slide show so I can talk about the project. I officially built a sheetrock buddy, affectionately called Juan Carlos Santana, and hung rock on the ceiling solo for the first time during that project. My sons made guest appearances to help with cleanup since video games are more important. They know that I am capable of doing my own work- they don’t even bat an eye when I talk about my home improvement projects. I do appreciate that I was able to teach my eldest how to hang sheetrock. I learned how to do renovation work, over the years as an electrician on the jobsites, by watching guys work on the jobsite. I was even lucky to get some stuff, such as insulation or carpet, that was being thrown away over the years. I am a huge fan of metal studs so I used them in the project. I do not like to touch concrete (other than demo), taping (it takes me forever to get it perfect), roof, tile, or sweating copper pipe. I did bring in a buddy to remove old and install the new baseboards. I hired a guy to do my !8″ x 18″ porcelain tile. Another buddy came in to tape the seams- he LOVED my tight seams! Everything else is fair game in my book!! I have some other projects I will film or take photos and discuss the project. For one of my current projects, I am stripping paint, sanding, and putting some new paint on the walls. Additionally, my girlfriend Melissa bought a house this year so she has some renovation projects to pitch in and help her out. Check out my video and let me know what you think about the project. On another note, we should be releasing another podcast episode this upcoming weekend. So far any of our feedback on Episode 1: Lot Lizard was good- other than Melissa’s audio was too low. We are learning how to use the equipment- our Verbally Disastrous name sure rings true. Melissa and I have been occupied lately. To make matters even worse, we tried discussing the “Gorilla Glue” lady and Melissa’s audio was not picked up. We may try to re-discuss this upcoming weekend or scrap it entirely. I am sharing a work prank on a coworker, back in 2012, that I got in on with another coworker back when I still worked with the tools. I had forgotten that we pulled the prank- after all, I have been involved with so many in my career. We had a coworker that used to easily drift off to sleep while at work. A plan at his expense was hatched. At first we joked about having an air horn app on the phone. At the time, back in 2012, I don’t think we had one that would be as effective. Why not bring one to work?? We found the opportunity and we decided to strike! I operated as the camera person while my coworker got within ear shot and let loose on the horn. It was super hard to contain the laughter. We had just challenged an apprentice to a 30-pack White Castle Challenge on the jobsite- we have that on film as well. Compared to modern camera phones, the films from 2012 are not as good. However, I will share them nonetheless. Here is the airhorn prank that we played on another coworker:

hello everyone!

I was digging into old files in a retired computer and stumbled on some old video gems. My Siamese cat (may she R.I.P.) named Bootsie used to play with my two Jack Russell dogs named Daisy and Otis. whenever we used to take the dogs on a walk, my cat would follow to mess around with them. It was super precious to see them now that my Bootsie had to be put down. I remember Otis finding Bootsie when she was dying of kidney failure. Otis was nudging her trying to figure out what was wrong with her. She jumped up to greet him but then got back down into her previous pose in bed. Animals are a joy despite a lot of hair and messes to clean up after them. Animals are the joys of the childhood of my children as well as my adult memories. So far, I have found, despite being grainy, three cute videos of the animals interacting to share on YouTube. Here they are:

I participated in a survey for a Canadian college on gender-diversity and invisible barriers for women in construction. I screenshotted it so that I can share with the readers. Check it out and let me know what you think?

As I had shared previously, I have joined Reddit as of yesterday. There are way too many rules in that community that I have not yet figured out. It sounds like you need some time on the forum before you are allowed to speak. You need karma points. I have no idea about selling coins- not interested in that mess. I typed in some key words in an attempt to connect with a community of either like minded folks, people with similar interests, or fellow women in the trades. Whenever I type in certain key phrases pertaining to women in construction, I brace myself for the crass feedback. I am honestly surprised with the warm reception that I have stumbled upon about women in the trades in construction. While many people make bad assumptions about women in construction, there must be some good trade women making some good impressions over the years. For the ladies who have done us a solid with their great working reputations, I thank you wholeheartedly!!

I was pleasantly surprised to see that some men said that if women just work hard, that they will be embraced into the trade.

That is the way that life should be- based upon merit. Yes, I still believe that you must be better than the worst man on the job so you are NOT the first one on the round #1 layoff. It is nothing bad, it is what it is out there.

It is true that you get some preferential treatment if your parent was in the business before you. Yes, you are initially viewed either more or less favorable based upon previous experiences on the job with your parents or other family members who entered the trade before you did. It is still up to the individual to shape that final assessment of their peers. I would be interested, either like minded or not, in your opinion of the shared survey. Let me know exactly how you formed your opinion?

As I was sifting on Quora, I stumbled upon a question that jumped out at me. The posed question had zero responses. Therefore, I decided to jump on it like white on rice. I wanted to share my take on a question posed on Quora. Every once in awhile you feel compelled to respond to a query. Well, here is that moment where I felt compelled to give an answer on #Quora about #strong #women and the meaning thereof. This very well may become a future podcast topic. I know questions like this flush out the men vs women comments. I find the whole gender hating debate to be frustrating and not necessary. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses that they bring to different environments. I happen to be very physically and mentally strong. I know not all people share the same qualities and that is okay. I used to be more unforgiving and hard on people who were not sharp and lazy in nature. Don’t get me wrong, I am still not a fan of lazy people.

I chose to respond to the question based upon how I view the world and my own experiences. I evolved from a shy young woman to a way more outgoing, confident, driven, independent woman. It took becoming a widow at a young age to knock me on my ass. I was forced to work hard and fend for myself so that my son and I could survive. I had bought a house very young and didn’t want to lose it to anyone. I broke barriers in my work world because I listened, paid attention, and showed that I wanted to grow. Men gave me a pass for being eager to learn and strong enough physically to handle any task. It helped that I was a quick learner and was able to learn via watching others and mimicking their steps. I was pleased when coworkers actually forgot that I was a woman. I was considered one of the guys when I worked with the tools- I left in 2014. My years of interacting with men have rubbed off on me. I walk into a place with many of the same strong characteristics that my male coworkers exhibit without thinking about it. I stand in masculine energy and I do not know how to “turn it off”. Sometimes, I think about being softer in nature. However, I am good with my tough construction worker energy. What do you think about my response to the posed question?

In case you are on Quora, I encourage you to hunt down my posed questions and provide a response. I decided to throw out some questions on Quora as well. I posed two questions on my recent weird dreams. Yes, they were very weird dreams. So far, the feedback on them has ran the gamut of interesting. One woman claims that, “You’re sick!” I was humored and responded back sarcastically. I am sure I will blog about in once I get a few more responses coming in. I have to remember a few more other weird dreams and submit them for feedback as well. The dream interpretation varies depending on what part of the world you reside and your ideology. I try to pay attention to dreams since they sometimes result in a subsequent event happening. As of now, Reddit looks very restrictive and frustrating to use. I have always heard of Reddit. However, I have never ventured onto the website that was created 15 years ago. Perhaps I should have during the launch of my book in 2013. However, it is enough managing the social media platforms that I do have. I decided to kick it up a notch to get more exposure for the podcast. So here I am whoring out the podcast to another platform!! LOL! I am not sure how savage the Reddit community is -as of yet. Then again, they may be a glorious group that I have been missing out on for my entire life. Nonetheless, we are going to take this for a spin on the Reddit internet highway to see how much traffic we can generate. On the surface, it looks like the community can vote you off the island or let you stay on as a survivor. I need to study it further before making that determination. Every once in awhile, I find things that I have not previously shared. Today, I found some videos where I was speaking during an Independent Authors Book Expo a few years ago in New Jersey. I did some video clips for an author and she returned the favor. I reviewed my adult version is entitled, Construction Tales: Volume I: A Woman’s Journey to Become an Electrician. My edited teen version is entitled, Construction Tales: A Young Person’s Guide To Accomplish Anything In Life. I felt like the book was too raw for young readers- I would be embarrassed if a kid read my adult version of the book. I felt better by trying to remove cursing and nasty coworker antics. The message of keep pressing on with your plan and not giving up is a strong message for young people. It didn’t initially occur to me that I should edit the book until after the initial release. I then read the book in a recording studio and loaded it to #Audible. If the teen version picks up with interest, I will sit in the studio and do an audio version for the teen edition. I am sure there will be a cringe moment involving my book and a young reader in the future. Luckily, I have not encountered that…. yet.

Just so you know, I will publish any book reviews, good or bad, that have been submitted to me. I have published a few reviews so far from friends and coworkers. I even took a negative comment from a reader and applied the feedback to the teen version. I promise I won’t come after you with my masculine energy if you have a critique. I handle it decently- like a dude. I have worked with men for most of my career. I have learned to not be emotional and leave feelings out of feedback- no matter where it comes from in life. That is unless you come at me like a savage troll, I will unleash my construction laden venom. I fear no woman on the planet and very few men. As I have asked previously, I will accept topic ideas (except politics or religion) for future podcast episodes.

I have attended a handful of Independent Authors Book Expos- all held at various locations in New Jersey. I got to meet some cool visitors, authors, illustrators, editors, and poets at the events over the years. I would like to find other similar style book fairs to attend- once Covid-19 finally ends up being viewed in the rearview mirror. I wanted to share some videos that my son creatively came up to help market the book #ConstructionTales. My son Johnny is turning 16-years old in April. I just reminded him this week about the book promotional videos he created while I laughed behind the camera. He had forgotten about the majority of them. He cringed at his Officer Johnny video. I laugh at it each time and cherish them. He was about 9-10 years old at the time of the filming. It will be a video that we can all laugh at in the family when he gets even older in age. By then, they will become a treasured memory for him and his children. I am sure there will be a video played at his wedding in the future. He told me his inspiration for the creation of this video was from the YouTube channel Smosh. I will try to reach out to them to let them know it exists since it is very funny.
