Vol. #21: Showcasing (3) More Awesome Gang Authors!!

Hello Everyone!

Wow! It’s a rather warm day today (65 degrees F) here on this fine Wednesday afternoon. Too bad that I know 20 degree Fahrenheit weather is coming later on during the week. It appears that there is no rain on the menu for today. How is your week going for you so far? Daylight Savings is coming up on March 13th! Hooray for the end of another long winter! Sorry that I speak on the weather so much. As I have said a few times, I thank you for checking out my 16-year-old son John’s “Call To Action Marketing” business (hashtag #CTAMarketing). This post is intended to share even more work of some independent authors, such as myself, and earn some good karma in the process. Why not offer you a taste of a variety of authors with different content? Let me know if you have discovered a new author during this “Showcased Author Series”? My objective is to pick out different authors that offer a variety of media content. For the record, I know nothing about the author other than what is showcased in the author article that was shared, via Awesome Gang. Feel free to copy and paste and share this content on your blog, if you like. As an author, if you want to add more information, drop it down in the comment section below and I will edit and add at my earliest convenience. For now, I’m connecting with the authors in an effort to build my author network. Hopefully, they will follow me back on social media. I’m game to cross promote each other on social media as well. Just let me know or re-tweet one of my posts and I will automatically return the favor. I’m totally cool with many ways to help each other market each other. When you are a small content creator, it is important to help others out. The funny thing is that I’m sharing author content that was posted to Awesome Gang and Book Reader Magazine and I didn’t take the time to fill out and submit myself. Therefore, I have opted to share my book #ConstructionTales content and submit! When I’m ready to release my children’s book Not All Girls Play With Dolls on Amazon, I shall submit again at that time. Do you have any requests for a specific author or style of content? Let me know your various suggestions down the in the comment section below. For now, here are (3) showcased authors down below:

Showcased Author- 1.) Sylvie Grayson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Sylvie Grayson loves to write about suspense, romance and attempted murder, in both contemporary and science fiction/fantasy. She has lived most of her life in British Columbia, Canada in spots ranging from Vancouver Island on the west coast to the North Peace River country and the Kootenays in the beautiful interior. She spent a one year sojourn in Tokyo Japan.
She has been an English language instructor, a nightclub manager, an auto shop bookkeeper and a lawyer. Now she works part time as the owner of a small company, and writes when she finds the time.
She is a wife and mother and still loves to travel, having recently completed a trip to Singapore, Thailand, Viet Nam and Hong Kong. She lives on the coast of the Pacific Ocean with her husband on a small patch of land near the sea that they call home.
She is currently working on her eighteenth book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Game Plan. It is book four in the Lies He Told series, and is Randy Bonnar’s story. Randy grew up on the Canadian Prairies and some of his older siblings have featured in the earlier books. I felt it was his turn. His story was just waiting to be told.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Probably not that unusual. I began to write sci fi a few years ago, and now I go back and forth, one contemporary, one sci fi. But life always interrupts, doesn’t it? That’s just the way it is. I have had times when I’ve had to reread the whole book over to see where I am in the narrative. Doesn’t stop me, though. I love to write.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Linda Howard- love her books.
Neal Stephenson, his books first got me interested in writing an imagined world.
Bernard Cornwell- I’ve read all of the Sharpe books, every one of The Last Kingdom series.
Sandra Brown – I’ve read most of hers
Susan Elizabeth Phillips, Lisa Kleypas– Love the humour

What are you working on now?
My current Work in Progress is Aqatain, a prequel to The Last War series. In the other books, the war is over and the people have tried to put their lives back together again, new countries formed. In this one, we get a glimpse of what Emperor Aqatain was like, who he was, and why the War began.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
http://www.sylviegrayson.com is where you can find me and all my books. I post fairly often on my blog there.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
I think the best is to keep writing. Don’t get discouraged, there are plenty of books out there, so lots of competition. But yours is unique, so don’t give up.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Find or create a group of like minded authors to work with. I have a critique group that has been together for 8 or 10 years. We critique each other’s work, give useful feedback, brainstorm on plots, and in general are the main source of support for each other. It’s been invaluable.

What are you reading now?
Outfox, by Sandra Brown.
Bad Medicine, by John Reilly

What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to be able to travel again one day, and have planned a trip to Paris and Florence in the future. Will I write while travelling? Maybe it will be more of a sabbatical.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
To All Appearances a Lady, by Marilyn Bowering
Cryptonomicon, by Neal Stephenson
The Pale Horseman, by Bernard Cornwell

Showcased Author- 2.) Morgan Douglas

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a research scientist who has a passion for writing. I also volunteer at a local farm and play the ukulele. I have written and published one book but right now the sequel to the book is being edited and is going to be published soon.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Distorted Purposes. It’s an odd story but after being up all night with someone who was in the hospital I had to go to a final discussion class for college. I started daydreaming or may have even dozed off briefly. When I did I visualized what the shapeshifters in my book look like. I dreamed of one that I described as a blank figure, something that looks like a sign indicating gender on a bathroom door or on a walk sign. From there I just started writing a story centering around shapeshifters that I dreamed about.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I sometimes use random sticky notes to jot down brief ideas and just put them in my purse to look at later.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I like reading Stephen King’s psychological thrillers. Even though this series is not in the genre my book is I found Michelle Moran’s Egyptian Royals to be fascinating and her descriptive words inspiring.

What are you working on now?
I am currently waiting for the sequel to Distorted Purposes to be edited. In the meantime, I have started writing the third book.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I tend to use Facebook and Instagram the most. I do post on my website and try to promote it as well. So far the best method I have found is just creating posts that I think might be interesting.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just keep writing even if it takes you a long time or if you get stuck. I have heard the advice that it is better to get it all out on the page at first than to go back and critique it before the story is over.
Anytime an idea comes to mind try to write it down because you will forget it otherwise.
Promote early before you publish, I didn’t do this and it is hindering me.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
That the work of writing doesn’t stop after you publish. You have to promote all while trying to balance it out with taking the time to actually write.

What are you reading now?
I am reading The Other Side of Dark by Sarah Smith. I also just finished the Lost Apothocary by Sarah Penner.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To just keep writing more books. I want to finish the series I am currently working on and then go back to some of the other stories I have started but tabled for the time being.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would take The Other Side of Dark by Sarah Smith, it is my favorite book even though it is for middle schoolers. I first read it when I was twelve. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Rosematter by Stephen King, and Life of Pi by Yann Martel.

I recently shared my latest short story that has been loaded up to my Construction Tales-Told By A Woman Kindle Vella Library on Amazon. This is short story #11 entitled, “Juggling Motherhood & Working With The Tools”. This short story covers my life as a widowed, single mother in the era when I juggled both motherhood and my career as a journeywoman electrician. I share the various challenges I faced and lessons learned along the way. The previous short story is entitled: #10: “Early Life Lessons & Characters To Meet As An Apprentice”. I decided to write about some life lessons such as guarding your personal information, managing nasty rumors, combating sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and racism. Advice: Meaning Of (2) Common English Phrases Used

Hello Everyone!

How are you occupying your Wednesday my fine group of folks who stop by from throughout the world!? I’m truly honored that you take the time to stop by and read my content. Without you, I would be speaking to myself. Cheers for it being hump day! It’s another slow, cloudy work day today with no forecasted rain here in New York City. Any amazing vacations or weekend road trips planned for you my friend? Sadly, I’m not taking any trips any time soon. I’m thinking about going away a year from now. I may wait until my son Johnny graduates from high school and do some really cool trip. I thank you kindly for checking out my son John’s “Call To Action Marketing” (hashtag #CTAMarketing) business! I’m trying to get him to establish a blog since he is very new to this realm. Of course, as a proud mom, I will share his content. For this blog post, I cooked up another response for my Quora advice. Let me know if you enjoyed my advice or not? I’m still open to topic suggestions if you offer them to me. This topic is on the subject of the types of phrases that people use in every day conversations. I didn’t consider these phrases to be confusing before now. I’m acknowledging now that there are many languages spoken across the globe. There are probably a ton of phrases that native English speakers use to convey different thoughts that sound funky in translation. The only language I’ve briefly attempted to tackle is Spanish. I’m poorly trained with being the bilingual that I want to become. I give much credit to the many people throughout the globe who have been trained to speak many languages. My hat tips to you folks. As a kid, my father held a super firm position about learning foreign languages. We had gotten into a dispute my senior year since I wanted to take and learn to speak Spanish. He angrily yelled at me that anyone who comes to the United States needs to know English. I felt like that was a very arrogant approach to the position. He forbid me from taking the Spanish class. I told him that the world is changing and becoming more interconnected. I ended up secretly taking the class behind his back and he never found out about it. I really wish that I knew other languages since that is the competitive edge. There is nothing worse than people speaking another language in my presence and I do not know what they are saying. Then again, in New York City, people speak in many languages from around the globe. It would be absolutely impossible to learn every language on the planet. Perhaps there is a savant out there who is able to tackle that with no issues. I’m okay, as an older chick, with admitting my deficiencies. When I was younger, I was way more stubborn and determined to succeed at even the most daunting tasks. Well, without diving further into talking about multi-lingual tongues, go ahead and read my view on the topic. Check out the posed question and my own response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“Why do people say things like “needless to say” and “can I ask you a question”?”

By Marie Wells

MY RESPONSE:

“The phrase “needless to say” is what is said before saying some information that is rhetorical. Rhetorical means that the answer is obvious and the speaker is aware that they are saying something that is not new information. The phrase “can I ask you a question” is a polite way to ask your permission before proceeding further. To me, it indicates respect and that a very personal question is on the horizon. Any time anyone has prefaced a question with that phrase, a somewhat uncomfortable question surfaces. You may then choose how to respond. Good luck with navigating future phrases. #ConstructionTales”

By Leslie M. Jasper

I appreciate you for taking a stab at reading my Quora advice post. Let me know what you think? Have you previously ran into these phrases and scratched your head? Drop your response down in the comment section below. I’m sharing my latest (8) podcast episodes that come from The Verbally Disastrous Podcast, via links for Spotify & YouTube down below. If you read a Kindle, check out my newest short story release that belongs to my Construction Tales-Told By A Woman Kindle Vella Library short story series on Amazon down below. This short story covers my life as a widowed, single mother in the era when I juggled both motherhood and my career as a journeywoman electrician. The previous short story is #10 is entitled, “Early Life Lessons & Characters To Meet As An Apprentice”. If anyone has read any of my other previous short stories, by all means, let me know what you think? Check out the links for my book #ConstructionTales down below. I’m at work and it is another slow, slow day (read this very slooowwllyy). Enjoy your Wednesday since we are actively in the middle of the grind for this work week. I wish you a great morning/afternoon/evening on your side of the globe and a restful or productive day!

Advice: Types Of Apologies To Not Deliver Via Text??

Hello Everyone!

How goes your Tuesday people? It’s a slow work day today that is laced with clouds and rain here in New York City. Do you have any plans for happy hour after work with friends/family/co-workers this week? Enjoy this last week of Black History Month. Next month is Women’s History Month in March. I want to create another slide show to honor women pioneers in various fields. Last year, I created a slideshow on my YouTube channel for early women in construction. I thank you kindly for checking out my son John’s “Call To Action Marketing” (hashtag #CTAMarketing) business! For this blog post, I’m offering some more solicited Quora advice. Let me know if you laughed at my advice? As I have stated before, I’m open to any other topic suggestions if you offer them to me. This topic is on the subject of the types of apologies to not say, via text. I decided to have fun with my requested (10) responses. If I missed something to write down, by all means let me know in the comment section below. For the record, I don’t think ANY apology should be offered via text. People should grow a pair and face the music, own it, and keep it moving. You do less damage to innocent people by giving them common courtesy with closure. In my opinion, texting apologies is for cowards. Without further delay, go ahead and read my view on the topic. Check out the posed question and my own response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“What types of apologies should never be in a text?”

By Judith Engelstad

MY RESPONSE:

“Ohh!! I personally think all apologies should be done face to face. Texting is just a sub-human, pansy move. However, here are some apologies that should never be in a text:

Sorry I had sex with your mom, dad, sister, son, daughter, uncle, cousin, etc.
Sorry for the fight but I want a divorce now
I’m sorry for my mother saying that she hates you
Sorry I cheated behind your back on my hot secretary
Sorry about coming out of the closet; I’m now gay
Sorry I about my torrid affair with the babysitter
I’m sorry to kick you out of the house last minute
I’m sorry but I’m taking back my credit card and the car
I’m sorry that the baby is not yours
I’m sorry to inform you that I’m pregnant with twins!
May you successfully dodge the pitfalls of receiving vital information via text! #ConstructionTales”

Overall, the construction culture has improved dramatically over the past 25-years. Developing both a thick skin and a sharp tongue are key tools needed to survive various jobsite antics. I hope you learn something from this short story. There are more to come. These short stories are now also available as Verbally Disastrous podcast episodes.

Let me know your various suggestions down the in the comment section below. Here are (3) showcased authors down below:

Showcased Author- 1.) Dr. Ben Pennington

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an Atlanta-based award-winning Christian Education Ministry Director, Bible-teaching broadcaster, podcaster. I have served as the Christian Education Ministry Director at two metropolitan Atlanta area churches. Finding Jesus in Genesis: A Biblical Commentary on the Preincarnate Presence of Jesus Christ is the first book that I have written. My wife, Yvonne, and I have been married for over 41 years. We have three children and five grandchildren.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Finding Jesus in Genesis: A Biblical Commentary on the Preincarnate Presence of Jesus Christ is my first book. I was a member of my church’s missions ministry team. Our team would gather at a local shopping mall and witness Jesus Christ to the shoppers who passed by. A Jehovah’s Witness shopper quoted John 1:1 from his New World Translation Bible and told me that Jesus Christ was “a god” and was not divine. His translation of John 1:1 completely contradicted every bible I had read. That encounter started me on a journey to defend the gospel and deity of Jesus Christ.
I was the Christian Education Director at my metropolitan church. I developed the curriculum, taught a class on Christian Apologetics, and equipped our congregation with scriptures that defended the deity of Jesus Christ. Years later, I founded the Foundation Biblical Teaching Ministry and created a podcast and broadcast series titled Jesus in Genesis. In addition, I have used my podcast and broadcast series research to make my first book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am a morning person. My creativity is highest before noon each day.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Holy Bible has had a significant influence on my life. I am studying the writing of Moses in Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.

What are you working on now?
As a new author, I am studying effective methods and strategies for book promotion.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My ministry website and my author profile on Amazon have helped promote my book.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Trust God and believe in yourself and your God-given abilities.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Proverbs 3:5-6, Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he will direct your path.

What are you reading now?
I am reading the book of Exodus in the Holy Bible.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I want to master the art and science of book promotion.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring The Holy Bible, The Works of Josephus, and The Autobiography of Dr. Martin Luther King.

Showcased Author- 2.) Kristin Davis

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am an Educator and a Language/Story Work Coach. I have been working in the Education field since 2005. I have been a teacher, and tutor, and a director. I founded Language Ninjas to empower parents and children by empowering their language. I now guides parents in upgrading their communication with their kids. One of the ways I am empowering kids and parents is through writing books. This is my first book of many more to come.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is Abracadabra I Know What to Do! I was inspired to write this story while I was teaching Jr. Kindergarten. I had moments where I would get frustrated with myself and my students. As I began to realize the impact of the words I was choosing to use affected how I felt, I began teaching my students as well. We took situations that felt overwhelming and turned them around into empowering moments by taking breaths and changing our words. As a teacher, I wanted a book I could read to my class to help reinforce what we were learning, so I decided to write a book.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I like to chew on the cap of my pen when writing and thinking.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I was largely inspired by Peter H. Reynolds and Susan Verde who wrote books like I Am Yoga, I Am Peace, The Word Collector. I loved the simple, clear messages of their books.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on the second book in the series of my Language Ninjas children’s books.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
When promoting my book, currently Facebook and Instagram are my best sites. I am learning about new and different ways to promote.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice to new authors is to trust yourself. Write that book. And reach out to people to help support you and give you advice along the way.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I have ever heard is to focus on my breath. Breath low and slow. The person that controls their breath controls the room.

What are you reading now?
Right now I am reading several books. I am currently re-reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I also am reading through How To Do the Work by Dr. Nicole LePera and Finally Thriving by Allison Pelot.

What’s next for you as a writer?
What’s next for me as a writer is to work on my next children’s book and build my children’s brand Language Ninjas.

The books I would take with me to a desert island are:
It Didn’t Start With You by Mark Wolynn
The Surrender Experiment by Michael A. Singer
The Book Theif by Markus Zusak

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Genizah Codex is a murder mystery in three timeframes, where the three storylines are connected by refernce to an ancient document. That document is my first novel, The Lost Wisdom of the Magi.
I conceived of the idea because I wanted to write a murder mystery where the central mystery was not about who committed the murders but rather something else.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tense up my shoulders something rotten and have to spend a fortune in massage therapy.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Mary Renault, The White Goddess by Robert Graves, The Golden Bough by Sir James Frazer

What are you working on now?
I’m working on my fourth novel, The Receptacles of St. Ananias.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I used Reedsy a lot, but other than that, I’m clueless.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Form/Join a writers’ group. Ours, Bounds Green Book Writers (BGBW)(www.boundsgreenbookwriters.com), continues to go from strength to strength.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
One of my fellow BGBW members Elaine once asked me ‘What is it (my novel) about?’ I procedded to waffle about the plot, ‘It’s about this girl who’s a swordfighter, and she goes here and goes there.’ She said, ‘No, what is it about?’ I’m now looking for that in my work–overall theme, character arc, human drama rather than just plotpoints.

What are you reading now?
I am beta-reading The Boilerhouse, by Jonas Dreft.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I would like to publish The Lost Wisdom of the Magi in the US and publish The Genizah Codex in the UK and US.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible, War and Peace, Joseph and His Brothers, A la Recherche du Temps Perdu (I picked the longest ones)

Showcased Author- 2.) Camille Cabrera

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Camille Cabrera recently published her third book. Currently, she has two more novels in the works. She often writes stories and revisits the concepts at a later date. One of her books is set for release later in 2022.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
THE MYSTERY OF MISTLETOE MOTEL is Camille’s most recently published novel. She had wanted to create a cozy mystery novel that centered around Christmas. Camille loves writing stories that include an often familiar holiday.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Absolutely! Camille has several odd writing habits. Mainly, Camille insists on writing her books by hand before typing them out. She finds that her writing has a more cohesive flow when she writes the words by hand.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Camille believes that Agatha Christie has most inspired her work in the cozy mystery genre. Of course, Camille also believes in stretching her wings and intends to spread out over the much larger mystery genre.

What are you working on now?
Currently, Camille is working on CHRONOMETER. The novel is a crime mystery that is set in 2019 within the bustling city of San Francisco. The novel is set for release during September 2022.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Camille believes in offering copious interviews and investing in quality writing. She finds that books often speak for themselves when given the proper platform.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing. The ability to convey a story is an art, but also a craft. Practice helps to hone your skills and improve your writing. It’s not about how you start the draft, but how you finish that final revision.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t let fear keep you away from what you love. It’s reasonable to be afraid of failure or rejection, but that’s no way to live this one and only life.

What are you reading now?
Camille is currently rereading the dictionary. No, seriously.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Ideally, Camille intends to continue writing and growing as an author. Chronometer is currently her most challenging project as she is eager to see it come together.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
In the event of being stranded, Camille would opt for blank pieces of paper. She would finally have enough time to write away from the distractions of home and ironically create a project within a reasonable timeline.

Showcased Author- 3.) Gordon Byron

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born in California but I’ve traveled the world and my background is in geological sciences. I’ve been writing since I was in 6th grade. I loved to write poems and adventure stories at a young age. I moved around a lot when I was a child so I was forever fascinated by different environments and people. The variety of places, situations and social circles gave me an intense interest in the incredible variety of life. The endless variety and differences in people and places. This has inspired me to travel the world seeking the find all the little exotic novelties and secrets life has to offer. I’m a romantic or a spiritual explorer forever seeking the greatest profound depth of life experience, interesting little surprises and/ or way of living (or seeing the world) that surpasses anything I’ve ever seen or known. These things you can learn by putting yourself in different environments.

I’ve written two fictional series: The Superspecies and The Paul and Sandy series.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I’ve written two series: one is called The Superspecies and it’s a three part series in the sci-fi/ technothriller/ genetics engineering genre. The other series I’ve written is called The Paul and Sandy Series and the first book in the series is Young Love, Old Lore. So, basically, I’m working on two novel series at the moment with the first book in each series completed and the others still in the editing/ writing process.

The Superspecies is about a giant grizzly that kidnaps a little girl after forcing her family off the road in the forest, leading a group of rangers on a harrowing journey to find her. This spurs a chain of events which ultimately reveals a top-secret genetics engineering program government researchers must try to suppress before the “modified” animals kill any more people. The researchers are also stuck in the position of needing to rescue the animals from destruction by the agency they work for which seeks to rid the forests of every last one of them. At the same time, the researchers become targets of the animals’ wrath themselves because their increased intelligence allows them to recognize humans as destructive and dangerous creatures with too much power over them.

Young Love, Old Lore is about a young and irresponsible young man who is prone to making nothing but bad decisions in life. One morning while rushing to school, he crashes into the elderly Mrs. Halston and nearly kills her after not paying attention to his driving. All because he’s late for class. As a result, he faces a lengthy jail term if she either dies or becomes crippled for life. His relationship with his girlfriend Sandy is also on the rocks and everything in his life seems to be spiraling out of control when Mrs. Halston suddenly recovers and appears in court on his behalf, rescuing him from a lengthy jail term and a doomed perspective on life.

Many things inspire me to write but mostly exploring the human condition and the many problems/ challenges of life that must be dealt with in high-stress situations. I try to challenge my characters and readers with difficult situations that must be confronted with the correct application of personal ethics and wise principles in order to reduce life and survival to their essentials and, in so doing, get closer to the meaning and purpose of life.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My writing style is neo-stream of consciousness/ impressionistic. I try to be a much more readable version of William Faulker or Henry James, who was certainly brilliant, but I think would have been more accessible if he brought his unconscious impressions down to earth a bit.

I walk the line between overly abstract and overly literal and concrete in my writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Henry James, Joseph Conrad, Sinclair Lewis, William Faulkner, Robert Ludlum and James Rollins.

What are you working on now?
I’m continuing to work on my two novel series and I’m not exactly sure how many books will be included in either one. I will continue to tell the stories until they get dull or uninteresting to me.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I find the best methods for promoting books are Amazon ad campaigns, Facebook ad campaigns and author interviews/ blog posts to get your name out to more people.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
My advice to new authors is to write as much as you can as often as you can. There is no substitute for experience. Also, read books about character development and story telling whenever you have time. This will benefit you many times over when you fully understand the process and how to make it your own.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Be yourself and live every day like it’s your last because it might be. This puts a fire under me to keep pushing myself everyday to improve and work harder and harder.

What are you reading now?
Lately I haven’t been reading very much because I’ve been so busy but when time permits I’ll start rereading some of the classics along with technothrillers and modern literary fiction books.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope to reach people on a personal level and change their mental attitudes and perspectives on themselves and the world they live in. I want my characters and stories to bolster them and give them a sense of strength and purpose when faced with difficult challenges similar or even not-so-similar (other than in terms of intensity) to the scenarios presented in my novels, to set them free from limiting emotions like fear, causing them to act differently and without doubt.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That’s a very good question: probably Conrad’s Victory, Lord of the Flies and Henry James’ The Ambassadors and Washington Square.

Advice: When Is A Person Giving Themselves Away?

Hello Everyone!

I’m enjoying my own thing on this President’s Day holiday from home. I need to step out and take care of some other items today. Here in New York City, the temperature is in the 40’s/50’s Fahrenheit. Some rain is coming up on the weather menu for the upcoming work week. Try to stay dry while out on your work/school/home grind this week. I thank you kindly for checking out my son John’s “Call To Action Marketing” (hashtag #CTAMarketing) business! For this blog post, I’m offering some solicited Quora advice. Let me know if you appreciate or absolutely hate my advice? I have wide construction shoulders and can take on your feedback. 🙂 Thanks for being a willing participant with reading my verbal diarrhea. 😛 As I have stated before, I’m open to any of your topic suggestions if you offer them to me. This topic is on the subject of a person who is giving themselves away. I tried to look at the question from both sides of the coin. I can see a person who is perceived to be capable of so much more than their current lot in life. For a person on the outside of the equation, watching a person being taken advantage of or not living up to their full potential is absolutely frustrating as a spectator! However, the spectator may not be armed with all of the details of the picture. The other person may very well be content with their path and they may lack ambition to move further or make changes. This person may also heavily fear any form of major change. All of these reasons are perfectly valid for the person living their own life. After all, it is their own life to live. It must suck for the person in question to have to second guess their own potential in their own life. Getting feedback on your life from others can either be really helpful or harmful. No one wants to feel that they are lifestyle is short of another person’s expectations. Then again, constantly living up to the expectations of others can be exhausting. As a spectator, you can only offer your input and explain further when asked. Ultimately, the person is the one living their life and the master of their own domain. The old saying, “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make ’em drink” applies here. The goal is for all people to live their own lives. Catch yourself if you find yourself complaining about your life to your friends and/or family. Friends/family who hear you complain about your life will then think that you are not happy. If you are unhappy, review your circumstances and look to make changes. When you complain about your life yet don’t take any action, why even complain in the first place? Remember that sharing your unhappiness to others is an invite for input. If you don’t want outside input, write out your goals and regularly work on solving issues that make you unhappy. When I get into a bad space, I attempt to dig myself out, via writing out my goals. I write out 50 short and long term goals. Within a few weeks, cross them out, do the happy dance in my head, and then write in some more goals. That advice may help the introvert that is out there. Without further ado, go ahead and read my view on the topic. Check out the posed question and my own response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“What do people mean when they say, “This person is giving themselves away”?”

By Sachin Dabodiya

MY RESPONSE:

“It is possible that Person A thinks very highly of Person B who is perceived as “giving themselves away”. Person A may not approve of Person B’s activities. Person A may think that Person B is short changing themselves, via not living up to their full potential. This potential could mean that Person B is not with the best man or woman that they could possibly be with in a relationship. Person B may be also be working for an employer who doesn’t pay or appreciate them enough. Person B may be also capable of driving the best cars, living in the best homes, or having the best social circle. Meanwhile, Person B may be absolutely content with their place in life. Person B may have already weighed the options on the career and relationship and doesn’t want to make the changes. Person B may fear change or has become not interested in climbing on the ladder of success. Person A believes that Person B is capable of much, much more yet is not armed with all of the facts. The only way to fully arm each side is to have an open communication; if that is even desired. Person A is either genuinely looking out for Person B or just being critical based up what they know about Person B. Person A may very well feel the need to project their lifestyle onto Person B. Meanwhile, Person A’s lifestyle doesn’t make Person B happy or fulfilled. At the end of the day, it is Person B’s choice on how to proceed in life. Person B doesn’t owe anyone an explanation as to their life choices. If you are Person A, you can say your peace and then back off. If you are Person B, you can analyze the source of the comment and the person making the comment. Trust your gut, make the choice, and keep it moving. I wish you much luck on this journey. #ConstructionTales”

My First 2-Weeks As A Site Safety Manager

Hello Everyone!

How are you spending your Sunday morning!! The sun is out and desperately trying to elevate the frigid temperatures just a little bit. Shout out to the people grinding it out at work on the weekends! You are highly appreciated if you work (7) days a week! I did that grind for quite a few years as a younger woman raising my family. As an older woman with practically grown sons, I don’t feel the same urgency to work a ton of hours. By my mid-20’s, I was doing 120/hours a week! I don’t have it in me to do that today. I will push back from working multiple jobs so that the young people can take a stab at it. 😛 I can’t thank you enough for checking out my son John’s “Call To Action Marketing” (hashtag #CTAMarketing) business! For this blog post, I’m sharing my experience, so far, as a brand-new NYC site safety manager for the past two weeks. Beforehand, I will offer a brief overview of the educational requirements that are needed to get to this point in my career as a site safety manager. For the past 2 years, I started my journey transitioning from an electrical project manager to a site safety manager. I did a tremendous amount of studying and first tackled the (CHST) Construction Health Safety Technician. I used flashcards for my studying and I passed it about 1-2 months later. I then used a ASP cheap study guide (cost $300) and studied for about 6-weeks before sitting for the Associate Safety Professional exam. Sadly, it felt like it was a foreign language while sitting for the exam. I knew that I needed to get a better study guide. The institution who issues the credentials is known as the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. I figured why not see if this safety governing body offered study material. Yes, they do!! It is called Examcore. I must warn you that the study guide was very $$$ expensive!! However, it was highly effective on helping me pass both the Associate Safety Professional (ASP) and then the Certified Safety Professional (CSP). It has a series of videos and short quizzes to get through. Once you get comfortable with the bank of questions, you can take a simulated practice exam. It tracks your score on Examcore. Once you score above an 80, you are good to go to sit for the exam.

Now that I crossed the finish line for those credentials, it was time to study for the NYC DOB Site Safety Manager exam. I had to take the 40-hour Site Safety Manager course. I was also studying NYC Building Code which is massive! It took me some time to go through and get comfortable with building code studying before sitting for the exam. I submitted my paperwork after passing the exam. The big thing holding me up was the certified, itemized statement from Social Security Administration. This document took about a year to come into my mailbox! You cannot move forward with this credential until you receive that document. I was so happy when I finally received my invite from the Department of Buildings to come down and pay the fee and collect my site safety manager card!! It felt like it was such a long, hard road to get there! Now once I got the card in my hand, I had the task of finding my first opportunity to become a site safety manager. One barrier is my gender and I’m aware of that. I would put out a bunch of resumes each week. I did get an avalanche of rejections which are not fun to see in my email inbox. Surprisingly, I also received a batch of interview requests from a variety of employers at once too! I had already signed the paperwork for the company that I’m working for now when some other opportunities popped up. I went with my gut and I went with my current employer.

I’m honored to have crossed paths with my (2) fellow site safety manager peers. They have been absolutely wonderful to me. I am walking behind them listening and watching them both work. I feel so green right now and I’m working on absorbing data like a sponge. I recently found out that I also have to study and pass this construction site fire safety manager exam with the FDNY. Luckily, it is not required on this current project. I have the study material so I’m focusing on that before I sit for the class by the end of March, 2022. I have to schedule the exam in Brooklyn for an afternoon exam. I have to see if there are any other safety credentials that are also helpful for my career path. I got the pleasure of working with these two gentleman on a rather large condo complex that contains three high rise buildings. Each of us get to be assigned to the building as coverage as a site safety manager. I’m learning as to what exactly must be posted on the walls for each project. I’m watching as the crews create the green sidewalk sheds. This is basically a concrete breezeway replacement project here in Queens in New York City. The massive 22-story scaffolds for each building had to be engineered for this 1-year project. There are approximately 50 breezeways that need to be demolished and replaced. The scaffold will be designed so that tenants can go onto the scaffold and walk around their demolished walkways and continue to their space. There is even asbestos abatement going on along these breezeways as well.

I’m thrilled to learn from this experience. I have some good teachers around me to provide guidance on my questions as a new person. I enjoy the friendly dialogue between us, the sense of teamwork, and their unique personalities. I work with one fella who is of Greek heritage and my other new pal was born and raised in India. This week, I tried Thai food for the very first time. I had chicken basil rice that had some spice but not overwhelming. I had feared eating Thai food previously since I do not enjoy eating food that gives me pain. We are all parked in the same office instead of parking in each building solo. It is helpful for me to be with the group so I can have a better learning experience. I take the train and bus to work since parking is highly undesirable and not really feasible. The other two guys take their chances parking each day. One co-worker even got his vehicle towed away and had to retrieve it! I’m looking forward to learning even more and more as each month passes. My usual night owl schedule between projects has been demolished! I’m now going to bed early and getting up early again. Thankfully, the project starts at 8AM so I’m not having to get up too damn early. Out of all of us, I have the shortest commute. The pipe scaffold erection starts very soon. I have to do regular attendance and walks to review any problems with the sidewalk shed and ensure that the crews work safely. I had a young man pass by me on the sidewalk and say that he admired our work and what we were doing. I thanked him for his compliment. In a few months, I will offer another update.

I thank you for stopping by my blog and reading my early days as a new site safety manager. I admit that I’m nervous and slightly fearful of doing something wrong that I don’t know about. Luckily, I don’t feel awkward asking questions as a green person. I’ve wanted to shift gears for the past few years. Being an electrician is hard on my lower back since I have constant muscle spasms. My hands spazz out of control when I’m twisting up on a ladder. I can’t use the gym and lift weights anymore due to my back problems. This is highly frustrating to me since I love the gym. I found the project manager work more stressful than I had initially anticipated. I have to say that this is the least physically and emotionally demanding job that I’ve ever had so far. Perhaps it will change as the project moves forward. I will get some exercise in daily by doing a lot of walks of the projects. Getting in exercise is a bonus to me. I managed to gain weight back in 2020 after shifting to working from home. I had to force myself to start walking each day so that I could get the weight off of me. I’m still a work in progress on my weight loss goals. I can’t wait to get out of the brutal cold phase of this winter and have better weather. All good things come in time and with experience.

I thank you for stopping by to read/listen to me describe my newest work journey. God willing, I plan to finish my work career as a site safety manager. I may get the New York City work experience and then move to Tennessee or another state in the near future. Of course, I want to become a woman owned safety consulting firm in the near future. I started the paperwork that’s involved with doing this new adventure. I need to go work on some more tasks and even break my fast today. I started alternate day fasting since January and it has been helping me significantly so far. Enjoy your Sunday now that we are basking in a President’s Day weekend. Yes, I’m aware that this is a holiday that is only observed in the United States. I wish you a great morning/afternoon/evening on your side of the globe and a restful or productive day!

Vol. #18: Showcasing (3) More Awesome Gang Authors!!

Hello Everyone!

How are you managing on this windy, viciously cold Saturday evening!? There was a whole rollercoaster of temperatures this week here in New York City. Yesterday, we had 50 MPH winds and the temperature soared to almost 60 degrees Fahrenheit. I’m very much looking forward to warmer temperatures. I thank you for checking out my 16-year-old son John’s “Call To Action Marketing” business (hashtag #CTAMarketing). Do you have any requests for a specific author or style of content? Let me know your various suggestions down the in the comment section below. Here are (3) showcased authors down below:

Showcased Author- 1.) Kuntal Chakraborty

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi, this is Kuntal Chakraborty, a new fiction author, an independent tech writer, and a web entrepreneur at present. I’ve written two small fiction storybooks so far, which are
” The day I Didn’t See Myself ” and ” Untraced “. These books belong to the mystery/suspense genre. On the other side, my articles related to the latest technological evolution and web entrepreneurship have been published in some publications from the UK, Canada, and the USA. Before taking up the writing profession, I have worked as an IT employee in some of the global European MNCs. In my free time, I usually watch new movies, read interesting stories, blogs, etc.
Oh, I’m a die heart fan of martial arts.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The latest book is ” Untraced”. The story is about a young man who was trying for taking an internal branch transfer within the company to return to his hometown. But it didn’t happen. So he decided to try for a new job at another company that can provide him with an opportunity to work from his hometown. But the reality was completely different when he faced something that is completely unexplainable in words and almost uncanny.

The idea was very random. However, the base of the story was inspired by the situations of those workers who work far away from home and hope to get back to their home locations someday.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Ideas can spark in the mind anywhere-most likely when you don’t look for them. This happens for me too. So, whenever I get any random ideas, I try to keep them noted on my mobile phone for the time being. Later I develop the story or write articles on it either in the early morning ( mostly dawn ) or at midnight.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I’m a comics fan since my childhood and have been raised by reading the creations of Lee Falk, Herge, etc authors. Besides, I’ve read Bengali books written by authors like Hemendra Kumar Roy, Satyajit Roy, etc. Lines and quotes written by Oscar Wilde, attract me much.
Also, I must say that books written by legendary authors like Alexandre Dumas, Mark Twain, etc have influenced me always.

What are you working on now?
I have a few story ideas in my mind. However, I’m trying to write a romantic story, which will soon be published once completed.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Firstly, I should confess that I’m not good at marketing and promoting matters. Also, I’ve only written two books so far. Despite all this, I try to use social media platforms, Goodreads, or my own website to promote my books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Everyone has a different thinking style. But not all can communicate or express their views in a better way clearly with words. So, read a lot from different sources. That’s how writing style develops.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Listen to your gut feelings. They speak the truth.

What are you reading now?
It’s unplanned.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Hopefully a romantic and an adventure story.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Really? In that case, I will surely try to escape from that place as soon as possible.
Otherwise, who will read my stories? ..LOL

Showcased Author- 2.) Megan Diedericks

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am 20 years old, I live in South Africa, bi and my pronouns are she/her. I have finished a YA fantasy novel, but it is not yet published, and my debut poetry collection is self-published through Amazon. I am constantly having new ideas and working on new pieces, so here’s to hoping they will see the light of day soon!

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“the darkest of times, the darkest of thoughts”.
It is a poetry collection wherein I describe my struggle with love, what happens when that love fades, grief, as well as my mental health.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I can go weeks without writing, then sometimes I’d be up until 3am hunched, over my laptop like a little goblin just tapping away. Though, I do not think that is a unique writer experience. Sometimes, when I need to write but my brain won’t give me words, I just stare forward until something simple (like my dead plant in a pot) suddenly gives me the inspiration I need.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley. I have always known the story, but I only recently read it and it was amazing! To me, it was kind of a commentary on how society treats and views those who are different from the norm.
I also love Stephen King’s works, I am a huge horror fan!
Some of Emily Dickinson’s poems are constantly scratching the corners of my brain, she was a true genius.
The truth is, though I love to read, I am an extremely slow reader (in the sense it takes me forever to finish a book, even though I could do it much faster). I write more than I read.

What are you working on now?
I am working on a few short stories and poems to submit to magazines or websites who are publishing anthologies!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use my Instagram @/megandiederickspoetry mostly to promote my writing. It’s easy to interact with readers and I love making posts!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The same advice I try to make myself believe everyday: Never give up, your writing isn’t horrible, just keep going at it until you make it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“Every first draft is perfect, because all a first draft has to do is exist.” — Jane Smiley.
I saw this on a screenshot of a Tumblr post and immediately wrote it down in my notebook.

What are you reading now?
Red Dragon by Thomas Harris

What’s next for you as a writer?
I hope that it would be for my novel to be published, so that I can be somebody’s new favorite author!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The President’s Vampire by Christopher Farnsworth
Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian
The Lake House by James Patterson
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Showcased Author- 3.) Amy Miller

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a recruiter and business owner as well as a life coach and motivational speaker. I’ve been writing my whole life, however I just published my first book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Ready Set Recruit: The Hiring Manager’s Guide to Recruiting with Confidence is my first book and it’s newly released. I see a lot of unnecessary inefficiencies in the recruiting process and I want to help people leaders in a bigger and more impactful way.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I often wake up at 1, 2 or 3am inspired and ready to hit the keyboard!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Don Miguel Ruiz, Eckhart Tolle, How to Write a Movie in 21 Days, Save the Cat

What are you working on now?
Book marketing! I plan to begin writing my next book in March. First I’ll finish a Ready Set Recruit Series and then pivot to Self-Help Motivational for the general population.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Amazon

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Get your ideas out on paper BEFORE you begin revising. Just get the first draft down.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My own advice! Don’t worry about how it’s going to work out, just get started and keep moving. The steps will show up.

What are you reading now?
Rich Dad Poor Dad

What’s next for you as a writer?
Four more books in 2022 and some speaking engagements

Advice: Umm’s The Word!?

Hello Everyone!

I noticed an emergency alert for a quick snow squall on this Saturday evening here in New York City!! Come on spring time, baby! I’d like the weather to be a combo of spring and fall all year round. The summers and winters are a little extreme for my taste. Then again, you need some extremes in order to enjoy the calmer moments. I thank you kindly for checking out my son John’s “Call To Action Marketing” (hashtag #CTAMarketing) business! I will have to blog about my first two weeks on a project as a Site Safety Manager very soon. For this blog post, I’m offering some good ‘ole village elder advice that I posted to Quora. Let me know if you appreciate or absolutely hate my advice? I have wide construction shoulders and can take on your feedback. 🙂 I will admit that some days I would not be interested in reading a person’s verbal diarrhea. I’m glad you don’t mind reading my verbal diarrhea. 😛 As I have stated before, I’m open to any of your topic suggestions if you offer them to me. This topic is on the reasons as to why people say “umm” in their speech. Of course, you know I gave a giant list of different scenarios. I sometimes laugh heartily in my head when I hear a person say umm in either each sentence or every other word. You never know what is going on in a person’s life. You never know the other things that clog up a person’s mental real estate. A person could be overwhelmed with a major life tragedy. The last thing a person is concerned about is some extra filler words in their dialogue. As a younger woman, I probably was more judgmental on the term. The older I get, the less I care about petty things like that. I often see the “Grammar Nazis” who come out in full force on fellow strangers on the internet. At the end of the day, it is NOT a BIG DEAL!!! Perhaps people who feel the need to correct others get a sense of superiority? Does the person correcting a person really think the offender will appreciate their intervention? Another gift of getting older is that I don’t need to always correct people. Let people figure things out petty things for themselves. If you correct someone on the internet, you are only perceived to be embarrassing them. There is no real lesson learned through public humiliation. If it doesn’t impact me negatively, it really doesn’t need to be corrected. People make mistakes all of the time. I’m not counting a person’s umm’s and revealing it to them. Well, maybe I would for the sake of a laugh…LOL! Let’s not forget that blessed autocorrect feature! Does the use of umm bother you? If so, I’d love to hear exactly how it impacts your life? I would find that type of feedback to be absolutely fascinating if you do indeed exist. Without giving much more of the store, let’s read my view on the topic. Check out the posed question and my own response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“Why do people always say “umm” when in a speech?”

By Jerry Joo

MY RESPONSE:

““Umm” is a well-regarded filler word when you are in between thoughts. This filler word gives a person time to formulate the next thought. It fills the void of silence. Over time, this filler word comes out on a subconscious way. Meaning, you don’t even realize that you are uttering the words until after it leaves your lips. It takes some effort to try to avoid using “umm” in dialogue. I am very guilty of using this useless term when I’m unprepared during my #VerballyDisastrous podcast. I am actively working on eliminating that term from my vocabulary. When I write out my thoughts before speaking to record, my use of “umm” goes down dramatically. I don’t believe that the use of the term “umm” is indicative of intelligence. In fact, you can be sorting out multiple scenarios in your mind. These mental computations can take a few seconds to sort through. In your mind’s perspective, it may even feel like minutes and hours to either one or all parties in a conversation. At the end of the day, the term is not offensive and won’t hurt anyone. Thank goodness for those small benefits! 😛 You just have to give some patience to a person who is using this term. Give them some time to sort out their thoughts and even return to the original conversation later on. The subject matter may be intimidating for the speaker. Therefore, she/he is using “umm” a lot because she/he is getting flustered and her/his mind is shutting down. Some people may say umm since they have chosen at the last second to withhold information that they were initially going to share. The worst case scenario is a person who is actively in the middle of telling the biggest lie on the planet and ran out of some sketchy details. When you have to fact check your own manufactured lie(s), there can be a microsecond delay within the midst of the foolery. You can’t forget the tongue-tied person who is intoxicated on drugs and/or alcohol. A tired person who burns the candle at both ends can be entirely too tired to offer complete sentences. Give them all a moment to collect their thoughts or have them dry out and reconnect with them tomorrow. Basically, it’s not the end of the world for umm users. Additionally, there are many reasons for umm use. May you do your best to rigorously avoid using this filler word. #ConstructionTales”

Advice: The Meaning Of “Speaking Their Truth”?

Hello Everyone!

Are you braving the bitter cold and wind on this miserably cold Tuesday evening!? I’m counting the damn days until we enjoy spring again! It’s so close, I can metaphorically taste it! It’s not bad when it is 40 degrees Fahrenheit and above. Hey, check out my 16-year-old son John’s “Call To Action Marketing” business; it will also be known on social media by the hashtag #CTAMarketing. If you could find him under his name and business name and connect with him, that would be highly appreciated. For this blog post, I’m offering some good ‘ole fashioned advice that I posted to Quora. Let me know if you appreciate my advice? I’m open to topic suggestions if you offer them to me. This topic is on the meaning behind when people say that they “speak their truth”. I sometimes laugh heartily when I hear the phrase that comes before the avalanche of bull$hit! As a kid who grew up in the 80’s, I have never heard anyone get away with saying “their truth”. If you heard that, you knew that the spin was coming! What’s wrong with the actual truth? When we were little, we were told that it is important to tell the truth. There were no various versions of the truth! It was only one version that was acceptable. This is why it is hard as hell to accept varying degrees of the truth. It almost sounds blasphemous to be manipulated into thinking there may be variations of the truth. What is your knee jerk thought when you hear that phrase uttered? I’m interested in knowing your input on this doozy of a topic request. Drop it down in the comment section below. Without giving much more of the store, let’s read my view on the topic. Check out the posed question and my own response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“What do people mean when they say they “speak their truth”? How do you go about speaking your truth? What’s it take to speak your truth?”

By Barbara Young Capalbo

MY RESPONSE:

“Well, I believe that this is a relatively new phrase that people in society use. Sometimes, my eyes roll in my head like a slot machine when I hear that phrase. I sometimes anticipate tall tales and long shot excuses that contribute to “their truth”. The absolute truth of a situation would be what I would call the “North Star”. The North Star is an unapologetic, unbiased, raw, and real sequence of events that don’t give a $h!t about your feelings! Yes, the North Star only cares about the cold, hard facts and not about some ridiculous feelings! The North Star doesn’t side with either party, omit any facts, nor does it skew a side of the story. I’ve learned that when a person is speaking “their truth”, it is not necessarily a “lie”. It is the side of the story based upon one’s particular viewpoint. The person’s truth comes from their unique lens that they view life from. This unique lens is comprised of a culmination of life experiences. Everyone’s lens is rather unique since we all do not walk the same path. In a way, society is acknowledging that we all view our truth a little differently. This truth can be perceived as the Bible for some and an absolute smear campaign for others. Are we better off, as a society, for now having massive exposure to various versions of “the truth”, courtesy of the internet? I do find some value in analyzing an individualized version of “their truth”. After an analysis of many personal truths, it almost appears that “their truth” is way more in the grey area than I would have ever even considered in the past. I have viewed the truth as black and white. It either is or it isn’t the truth; sinner vs saint. I sometimes perceive that society gives people a “hall pass” to excuse a person and “their truth”. Meaning- a person’s past makes them a “victim” of current circumstances; hence, giving a skewed view of “their truth”. I believe that having versions of “their truth” makes today’s society way softer than previous generations. Then you have many who view “our truth” out of an emotional scope while others have a “just the facts, ma’am” approach. I’m not a fan of using emotions as “currency” for the truth. Then again, emotions, culture, behavior, gender, etc. can cloud the judgement of many and have played huge roles for thousands of years throughout many societies towards excusing and providing skewed truths. What is perfectly normal for one culture can be perceived as obscene for another culture. When a scenario can be embarrassing, it makes sense for a party to omit sensitive/embarrassing facts when speaking their truth. It doesn’t make their truth correct; it is just how they view the truth. Key details can make a sinner look like a saint. Many people shamelessly omit key details that can make them look like the bad guy in the situation. People just need to face the fact as to who they really are in a situation. No matter “your truth”, you are still the bad guy when those key missing details come to light. I personally call those kinds of truths as “lies”. What you do is own it and keep it moving. Meanwhile, others can omit key details since their emotions and/or bias are genuinely blinding them from seeing the cold, hard facts. Yes, the truth is UGLY and that skewed version IS what they actually see in their mind! However, as I have gotten older, I’ve learned that life is not so absolute with the black versus white. In some situations, not so much mental real estate needs to be spent in the quest for the truth. In other instances, I hope a dirty thief gets their day in court and faces their bad deeds and those folks who they have damaged deeply. I have also learned that I need to provide wiggle room in my mind and try to understand the different perspectives of others. There are huge benefits with trying to understand where others are coming from. For one, if you can understand behaviors, you can start to see the behavior patterns. Once you can see those patterns, you can work to predict future behavior as well as get closer to the North Star. May your truth be as close to the North Star as possible and hopefully you can successfully dodge folks with a highly skewed version of “their truth”.
