Hello Everyone!

Hopefully, you are hanging your at at home relaxing or out finishing your work day on this Friday afternoon!? May your last day of the week be uneventful and efficient as possible. My 16-year old son, named John Collazo, is in the process of building his social network on social media. He has taken a recent interest in marketing and wants to build his brand and help creators promote their creative work. His business enterprise that he is building is called, “Call To Action Marketing”. Call To Action Marketing will be known on social media by his hashtag #CTAMarketing. If you could find him under his name and business name and connect with him, that would be highly appreciated. This post is intended to share even more work of some independent authors, such as myself, and earn some good karma in the process. Why not offer you a taste of a variety of authors with different content? My objective is to pick out different authors that offer a variety of media content. For the record, I know nothing about the author other than what is showcased in the author article that was shared, via Awesome Gang. Feel free to copy and paste and share this content on your blog, if you like. As an author, if you want to add more information, drop it down in the comment section below and I will edit and add at my earliest convenience. For now, I’m connecting with the authors in an effort to build my author network. Hopefully, they will follow me back on social media. I’m game to cross promote each other on social media as well. Just let me know or re-tweet one of my posts and I will automatically return the favor. I’m totally cool with many ways to help each other market each other. When you are a small content creator, it is important to help others out. Do you have any requests for a specific author or style of content? Let me know your various suggestions down the in the comment section below. Here are (3) showcased authors down below:

Showcased Author- 1.) Kate Phyre

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve lived a strange life with no sign of that changing any time soon. I taught myself to read at the age of three. One day while watching my mother read to me the strange black lines on the page suddenly snapped into focus and became words I could understand. It happened all at once and utterly shocked my mother when she discovered me reading to my stuffed animals later that day. She tested me with a book I’d never seen before and turns out I actually did teach myself to read. I was writing stories and poetry by the age of 7 and reading at a college level by age 13.
Then life took a much darker turn and I discovered more of the world than one should at that age but I’ll save the gory details for my memoir.
I like writing fiction because I can be utterly truthful.
I like writing science fiction because I’m fascinated with our potential as a species to create amazing almost impossible things and the license to wrestle with the larger sociological implications of our actions.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Faery Tales of the Future – my latest book, came about from my own fascination with traditional fairy tales combined with an abiding love of science fiction. Not the Disney kind of fairy tale, the darker Brothers Grimm type that carried a warning or a lesson or a contemplation of human nature and the supernatural. So many of our stories come from deeper darker roots. It got me wondering what stories would humanity take with us as we head for the stars. Would any knowledge of the home planet survive hundreds maybe thousands of years? What would those stories reflect about the people who dreamed so audaciously to inspire a small war-like species to reach for new worlds?
So I dedicated a series of short stories to exploring the subject. At the end of one glorious summer of writing I had about 16 – 20 stories.
I picked the ten best of the bunch and Faery Tales of the Future was born.
Lots of editing and revision followed resulting in the collection now available for your wonderful readers to enjoy.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Many of my ideas come from dreams. I studied conscious dreaming while attending the Academy and have practiced it for many years. Often I’ll start a story in my sleep. The words will come along with some visuals. When I wake I have to begin writing it or the dream will continue to haunt me all day. I’ve used this practice to solve plot issues and discover new aspects of my story as well. The subconscious mind is fertile ground for new ideas. At times I won’t really remember the dream but once I sit down to write I discover that the “problem” I was having with some subject or chapter has resolved itself with the dreaming. Even providing new areas to develop.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many, too many to count here. My early influences were the classics, English Lit masters like Dickens, Shakespeare and Tolkien. Later the American science fiction authors duked it out with Mark Twain, Longfellow and EE Cummings for space on my overflowing bookshelf. Eclectic is still how my tastes run. Although I love science fiction and write in that genre I read widely in non-fiction, philosophy, political, hard science, biology, astronomy and physics journals – you know, just for fun…

What are you working on now?
My next book is titled Destiny Wars – it’s a mind bending, time warping science fiction thriller exploring the connection between memory and identity while the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

The next book after that looks to be an epic fantasy set in a wholly original world not yet touched by humans.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Still figuring that part out. The ideas for prose and essays spill out of my brain but SEO, social media engagement and platform building are all word-salad to me.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Perhaps it’s been said before but keep writing! Let your first draft and even your fifth be dreck if it must. Judgement too early in the process is the dream killer. Let it be messy, unfocused and poorly punctuated. All those things can and will be fixed but only if you finish that first draft!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I ever heard for writers and really any artist is to write down every idea in a notebook or journal because you never know when that kernel of an idea will spring forth into Divine inspiration.

What are you reading now?
Ursula K. LeGuin’s Catwings – I never read it! (i’m not crying, you’re crying… 😉

What’s next for you as a writer?
Figuring out the marketing part with the goal of making writing my full time occupation complete with a sustainable income – so nothing too big…

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
4 books?!? That’s like telling a chocoholic they can only eat saltine crackers for the rest of their life!
I’d have to cheat and bring a Kindle (with a solar charger) loaded with thousands of books, 2 blank notebooks for journaling and a classic like the Iliad because if I’m stranded on a desert island then it’s obviously the beginning of an epic quest.

Showcased Author- 2.) Hunter Carson

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have written two books now (hopefully several more to come!)

I graduated from the University of Georgia with a double major in Finance and Management and my certificate of Entrepreneurship and married my soul mate, Anna.

Besides coaching, I own a real estate house flipping business in the Atlanta area where we have flipped dozens of homes and grown into a thriving local business out of nothing. I invest in rental properties, currently owning several Airbnbs, single-family houses, and even some commercial properties. This entrepreneurial and investment experience plays a big role in how I coach other young people who struggle in these areas of life.

I attend Buckhead Church, where I have led men’s groups and serve as a mentor for Renew. In my mentor position here, I’ve helped many young men grow deeper in their faith and navigate life’s hardships.

In my heart, I am a seeker of adventure, knowledge, and self-discovery in all areas of life. I am a builder of people, producer of passion, and catalyst for profound growth. My friends, colleagues, and clients describe me as optimistic, calm, inspiring, thoughtful, responsible, and a visionary. They know that I bring a gentle, humble confidence to the world through the people I know and work with.

In my free time, I like to read, enjoy the outdoors, hike, play sports, and watch college football.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My last book is called “The Magic Mirror”

What are you working on now?
I am now working on my memoir

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I use different types of social media like Instagram, YouTube, Facebook…

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do not overthink, give it a try stay true to yourself as I believe that we all have a different writing style, and all stories deserve to be read.
It was difficult for me to publish my book as English is not my first language but today there is all sorts of help to help us bring our stories to life.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice I have been giving in moments of doubt is that there are many stories out there but my one is unique and still missing.

At the moment I am reading “Healing Letters” a memoir written by Aurea Reis

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?

I recently shared my latest short story that has been loaded up to my Construction Tales-Told By A Woman Kindle Vella Library on Amazon. This is short story #11 entitled, “Juggling Motherhood & Working With The Tools”. This short story covers my life as a widowed, single mother in the era when I juggled both motherhood and my career as a journeywoman electrician. I share the various challenges I faced and lessons learned along the way. The previous short story is entitled: #10: “Early Life Lessons & Characters To Meet As An Apprentice”. I decided to write about some life lessons such as guarding your personal information, managing nasty rumors, combating sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and racism. Overall, the construction culture has improved dramatically over the past 25-years. Developing both a thick skin and a sharp tongue are key tools needed to survive various jobsite antics. I hope you learn something from this short story. There are more to come. These short stories are now also available as Verbally Disastrous podcast episodes.

Showcased Author- 1.) Ashley Parker Owens

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a prolific writer and publisher. I ran a small press and published 20 anthologies and six chapbooks. I have written four novels, a collection of short stories, and five chapbooks. Publishing excites me as much as storytelling. It is exhilarating to assist others in achieving their dreams. I sent out a quarterly magazine that listed mail art opportunities for five years.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Recently I finished the Gnome Stories series that took over a decade to complete. I was a single mom working full time and didn’t write consistently. Creative writing gave me an outlet to escape to another world. While working in IT, I often had long sessions installing software or some other tedious activity, and my mind would spin with fantasies.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I work in software quality assurance, and my workday can be hectic or slow depending on a process flow out of my control. I take every opportunity to use my time in front of multiple laptops to create, write, and publish. I am also a prolific, award-winning artist.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have a wide range of interests and have always been a prolific reader. I prefer literary, fantasy, and ancient texts like Rumi and Sun Tzu.

What are you working on now?
My goal for next year is to explore genres other than fantasy. I am currently working on a techno-thriller, a magical realism story about lycanthropes, a science fiction novel, and a poetry book about my dad, who passed away last year.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m hesitant to opine about the best way to promote books because I don’t seem to do it well. Without hard data, I would not know where the clicks came from if I was successful. I have tried Twitter and Facebook campaigns, author profiles on Amazon and Goodreads, my website, book promotions (free giveaways and .99 deals), editorial reviews, and social media posts. I haven’t had a lot of luck encouraging readers to opt-in to an email list.
Awesome Gang, N. N. Light Book Heaven, and BGSauthors are useful author promotion websites. Getting book reviews is my marketing pet peeve.
My latest out-of-the-box idea is to cross-promote cryptocurrency, a novel, and a comic book.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do not edit during the writing process. Concentrate on getting words on the paper, so you have something to edit. I marinate ideas to let the concepts and symbolism percolate in the deep recesses of my brain.
I used to write out everything longhand but finally switched over to typing on a laptop, which has made the writing and editing process quicker. Computer programs like Grammarly, ProWritingAid, and SmartEdit Pro can help you make quick gains when editing.
Everyone should use beta readers, developmental, copy, and line editors. Hire a proofreader. I have found a lot of inexpensive help on Fiverr. I have belonged to writers groups in the past but found they are more trouble than worth.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Set up a work schedule and stick with it. I usually work 3-8 hours a day, including weekends. I spend quite a bit of time promoting, editing, and thinking. Creating ebooks and audiobooks is also time-consuming.
Write what you want, and don’t worry about whether people will like it.

What are you reading now?
I am currently reading technical spec manuals for audiobook production. The last fiction novels I read were N. K. Jemisin’s The City We Became and Andy Weir’s Project Hail Mary.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have been exploring a cross-promotion idea between a techno-thriller novel and cryptocurrency. I didn’t know much about it but successfully set up my own coin and NFTs. I don’t know if my idea will pan out, but it was essential information to learn for my novel about a series of murders on a data-mining farm in the arctic.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Kafka on the Shore, Haruki Murakami
The Kraken, China Miéville
Fight Club, Chuck Palahniuk
The Essential Rumi

Showcased Author- 3.) Stefan Emunds

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I write inspirational non-fiction, visionary fiction, and run an online enlightenment workshop. Enlightenment and storytelling have interesting parallels, which invited me to write a book about storytelling – The Eight Crafts of Writing. I was born in Germany and, after graduating, enjoyed two years backpacking in Australia, New Zealand, and South-East Asia. Prior to my writing adventure, I pursued a career as a business development manager in Europe, Middle East, and Asia. . Semis-retired now, I live with my son in the Philippines.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is The Eight Crafts of Writing. Learning fiction writing felt like parachuting into an unknown mountain terrain. Every time I climbed a mountain (a writing craft or skill), I discovered another one to scale. Five years into my writing adventure, I still couldn’t see the end of it. I looked for a ‘map’ with an overview of the writing craft, but couldn’t find one. Most writing coaches specialize in two or three crafts. Also, they prefer to focus on either story structure (left brain) or story experience (right brain). So, I drew up the storytelling map myself.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I meditate on scenes. Creative writing (writing scenes) is a right-brain affair and story structure and editing/rewriting is a left-brain affair. Meditation syncs the brain’s two hemispheres, which allows writing in the stream of consciousness.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I like Robert McKee’s philosophical approach to storytelling.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a medieval/historical/heroic fantasy novella called Everknight. Everknight is a story of uncompromising honor. If you lost your life in a bet and were given a year to live, would you go to your execution when the time comes? Would you go out of your way to get there? Would you be a knight?
We need to return to love (Marianne Williamson) and to honor. But not that cliche honor that is open to abuse. A new honor that we can only find within.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Influencer outreach: be a guest on podcasts and write guest posts.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Get an overview of the writing craft(s), before you parachute into the storytelling jungle.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Fiction writing is complex and we can find a lot of great advice in books and on the Internet. If I had to choose the most important advice, I’d say, “Write every day three to four hours.”

What are you reading now?

What’s next for you as a writer?
In the context of religion, Jesus was the great exception. In the context of enlightenment, Jesus was the great example. The latter is a story untold.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Book of Tokens and the “Book of Nature” (Tarot).

Vol. #8: Showcasing (3) More Awesome Gang Authors!!

Photo Credit: Call To Action Marketing- John Collazo, CEO

Hello Everyone!

Hopefully, you are hanging your at at home relaxing on this early Friday morning!?

Showcased Author- 1.) Budhaditya Ghosh

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a law student hailing from Eastern India. I was born in 2003 and received my education from two premier schools in Kolkata before giving the Common Law Aptitude Test and receiving an All-India Rank of 300, which enabled me to get enrolled in the college of my dreams. In my free time, I enjoy reading, cooking, watching anime and, of course, writing! I have currently published multiple short stories and one novelette, and am working on my first full-length novel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called ‘The Aliens’. It is a political science fiction story focusing around an imagined inter-planetary refugee crisis. I was prompted to write the book by the worsening humanitarian situation in many places around the world, especially in and around Central Asia. These difficult conditions often left so-called ‘displaced persons’ with no real way out or place to call home, and I wanted to convey this struggle, albeit through some unusual lenses.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
One habit I’ve been trying to shake is my tendency to use an excessive number of ever-more complicated pronouns to combat what I see as too many repetitions of a character’s name in quick succession. Though I’m sure that names fade into background noise for readers fairly quickly, my own brain absolutely refuses to forget, with the result that I slowly have to comb through my works after I’m done and remove these inventions with simpler text. Thankfully, I’m getting better with practice.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Some of the biggest influences on me have been George Orwell, William Golding, Enid Blyton, and Rick Riordan. An eclectic collection, I know, but reading them has enabled me to find the perfect balance of whimsy and darkness when I build my own worlds. There are many terrible things and bloodshed and death in this cruel Earth we have inherited, but there is also light, hope, and laughter. Any work claiming to be organic and real must incorporate both faces of the coin. Besides them, Brandon Sanderson and Stephen Baxter have been big influences in how I build my worlds. My favourite books include 1984, Animal Farm, everything Riordan, and The Arthashastra in non-fiction.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on my first full, honest-to-god novel in the contemporary paranormal fantasy genre, tentatively titled ‘The King of Bones’. It is the first book in an envisioned ‘Staff of Dattatreya’ series that draws heavily from mythologies and legends from across the world with a special emphasis on Indian culture.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
It’s easier than it looks. Trust me. Writing can seem like this labyrinthine, eldritch space sometimes, especially when you get to the business side of things. But by and large, it’s like any other art form. Unless you’re absolutely trying to min-max, the fun is the most valuable thing you’ll get out of it. Obviously, this doesn’t apply if you’re writing for money. But if you’re writing for your own enjoyment first and foremost, don’t overthink it. Just jump in and let the current lead you where it will. Even if you only sell 2 or 3 copies, you’ll still have a completed book and a massive ego at the end to feel good about 😉

Showcased Author- 2.) Leah Copeland

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m Leah, and I’m a YA Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance author. I’ve written three books but have published two and have so many plans for more!

I live in Virginia with my hubby, toddler, and German Shepherd. My favorite shows are Friends, New Girl, The Vampire Diaries, and Supernatural.

When I’m not writing, I’m reading, taking care of my family, or stealing alone time when I can.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Blue Moon Eyes was published in September of 2021, and book two, Silver Moon Cries is releasing February of 2022.

I got inspired to write this series because I wanted to find a shifter romance with emotion, some humor, a respectful (and broody) alpha, and lots of action. It’s been hard to find books like that. So I decided to write one.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I have to clean right before writing, and I need complete silence. Even when my house is quiet, I put in noise canceling earbuds because I need to really get in my zone.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Heather Hildenbrand, Leia Stone, and Jennifer L. Armentrout are some of my favorites. Their writing is fast paced and emotional. I just love getting deep into the worlds they create.

What are you working on now?
Right now I’m working on book 3 in the Wolves of Shadow Grove trilogy, and another project that I’m considering serializing.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Get the word out as much as you can, and have a great cover that fits the genre. I always try to recruit as many bookstagrammers and authors as possible to post and share my cover before and on release day.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Read a lot, write what you love, and enjoy the journey. It’s not about “If I can publish this or get to this place in publishing, then I’ll be happy.” It’s about getting to know your characters in the moment and connecting with your readers. Those are the things you’ll love the most.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Sometimes you have to put yourself first.

What are you reading now?
At Dusk by Jennifer Snyder

What’s next for you as a writer?
Publishing book three in my series in 2022 and then writing the companion novels with it. I’m so excited about it because it’s in another POV and it will be placed in a bigger city!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Harbinger series (Storm and Fury) by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I could reread those a million times!

Showcased Author- 3.) Ghost Lady

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I finally put my creepy and disturbing mind to good use and began writing horror fiction. My fascination with all things scary began at a young age by watching many, many horror themed films. Unfortunately, my husband has often been a victim of my horror entertainment by my scary pranks. So now, instead of crawling on the ground with my hair over my face while my husband returns from his 2 AM bathroom break, I am putting those thoughts onto paper for your amusement.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is The Waterstreet Button Factory, and it was inspired by my own experience living in a creepy house along with my fascination with old industrial buildings.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I tend to write at night to help set the horror mood.

What are you working on now?
I have three other projects in the works. The main one is about a woman being haunted my her husband’s late wife. Then I have a crime/mystery thriller. Finally, I have ideas for a series.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am still trying to determine the best avenues.

What are you reading now?
I am actually reading Harry Potter right now.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Continue pushing out new books and to learn as much about the self-publishing business as i can!

Advice: How To Tell If A Person Is As Good As They Profess?

Hello Everyone!

Are you gearing up for the upcoming Super Bowl Sunday!? Who are you rooting for to win?! If you are outside the United States, do you even watch American football?? I’m kind of assuming that this is only an American pastime. I would be thoroughly entertained to hear from American football fans from outside the country. I’ve been a Philadelphia Eagles fan, along with my two sons, for the past 20-years. Over the years, my family sat together and watched many games together. I’ve not gotten myself into soccer that the rest of the world loves. I have sat with friends and watched a game or two over the years. I’m aware that I need to get on a plane and go to Europe and Asia to get that experience. The funny thing is that I get the European & Asian experience just by living here in New York City. LOL, I’m kidding! I know it’s not the same. Anyways, let’s talk about advice. Guess who found another question for your reading pleasure on Quora? Your New York homegirl has got you! 🙂 I smirked when I stumbled upon this question. I laugh when I reflect and think about the guys who are self-proclaimed experts. A good person in their field doesn’t have to brag or try to convince anyone. Their moves to completion speak for themselves. One has to ask if you have to be the absolute best in order to be qualified to even work in the industry? I don’t think you have to go hard or go home. You just strive to do your best, collect your salary, and go home and enjoy down time with your family. Unless it’s rocket science, tasks are not that difficult to mimic. Then again, my learning style, as an electrician, has been to watch others first, learn the basic steps, and then do it myself. Each task on the planet has a series of steps. You have the internet, including YouTube, to give you guidance on anything in life. You can easily watch how a person struggles during a task to see how effortless and efficient they can complete it. You don’t need to be an expert in order to recognize that this person is struggling in his craft. I laugh when I see cocky people act like their craft is a “members only club”. Meanwhile, anyone with two eyes, some intelligence, and basic knowledge of the steps required can figure out a person’s ability. Without giving away the store, here is the posed question and my response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“What is a sign that someone isn’t as good as they say they are at something?”

By Sean Kernan

MY RESPONSE:

“This is an interesting question to tackle. Whenever you meet someone, they may offer a load of credentials. Every task on the planet consists of a sequence of steps from cradle to grave. The key is to get a general idea of the steps before observing the person working, if given the opportunity to observe. You need review the ease of a person’s words and actions to see if the credentials match in reality. No matter the goods or services a profession offers, there are key pieces of basic knowledge that a professional must possess in order to be authentic or good at their trade. Thank goodness for YouTube tutorials that offer step-by-steps that are required for almost any set of credentials out there. A person who is very good at their craft can seamlessly rattle off a series of step-by-step tasks that are required in order to complete a task, when asked. Unless it is custom or obscure, they should also be able to articulate solutions for most questions that you have posed on the work. In construction, I tend to watch a person work and study their sequence of steps and how they are executed. I can see if they are a sloppy or clean when they work and the struggles with each step. I will watch to see how long they linger in one particular area (each step), mistakes made such as the “bone pile” of bad conduit bends or broken material debris, the down time, how much work the person does versus their partner, how they articulate their work, the results of the final product, etc. I also study a person’s consistency with their work, level of precision, whether they are late to work, reputation amongst fellow co-workers, and even topics discussed during coffee or lunch break. Feedback from fellow tradespeople will give clues as well. A person who is decent at their craft will be respected by their peers. You can see if a person struggles at each step, duration of each step or whole task, or their level of focus while on the task. A proficient person makes task look very easy to perform. A person who has to tell you they are good at their craft are usually all talk and no action. I also strongly believe attention to small details and cleanliness along the way is a vital guide as well. I once was basically interviewing doctors to get my carpal tunnel surgery done. I ruled out a doctor after seeing dirt under her fingernails at the consultation. If you don’t have constant attention to detail, you are not cutting me open. A person who is not somewhat organized with their work space and/or looks confused or chaotic is a dead giveaway as well. Then again, not everyone is meticulous with their work. Instead, they do the bare minimum, via just slapping stuff together. If the final product looks beat up or not even level and plumb, I find that a key indicator as well. As a manager, I’d want to just issue a layoff and call on a competent person to get the work completed to satisfactory standards. There is nothing worse to me than lazy workers. The offense goes higher when these lazy folks promote themselves as a motivated and proficient professional. Perhaps there are more key indicators than what I listed. May you not be fooled by person who claims to be more proficient than they are!”

Your eyes being laid on my advice blog post today is highly appreciated. Let me know if you ride or absolutely die with my advice? Of course, I’m joking as usual. If you hold a position, why do you believe the way you do? What comes to mind when someone tells you that they are the best in their industry? I tend to roll my eyes personally? I then observe them over time to see how bad they actually are in reality. Good people do not have to tell anyone; their work speaks for itself. Anyways, I’m also sharing my latest (8) podcast episodes that are listed down below from The Verbally Disastrous Podcast, via links for Spotify & YouTube down below. If you are into reading on a Kindle, check out my newest short story release that belongs to my Construction Tales-Told By A Woman Kindle Vella Library short story series on Amazon down below. This new short story #11 is entitled, “Juggling Motherhood & Working With The Tools”. This short story covers my life as a widowed, single mother in the era when I juggled both motherhood and my career as a journeywoman electrician. The previous short story is #10 is entitled, “Early Life Lessons & Characters To Meet As An Apprentice”. If anyone has read any of my other previous short stories, by all means, let me know what you think? Check out the links for my book #ConstructionTales down below. Hopefully, I will hang out and do some fun activities with Melissa this upcoming weekend. I need to go focus on a little more pimping out my content on social media, some tasks, and then tackle my painting and my children’s audio book. Enjoy your Thursday now that we are almost done grinding out the work week. I wish you a great morning/afternoon/evening on your side of the globe and a restful or productive day!

Vol. #7: Showcasing (3) More Awesome Gang Authors!!

Hello Everyone!

Hopefully, you are heading home after work on this Wednesday evening!? I see that my newest short story, for Kindle Vella on Amazon, #11 entitled, “Juggling Motherhood & Working With The Tools” is now live! I’m going to work on creating and editing the audio version of “Not All Girls Play With Dolls” tonight.

Showcased Author- 1.) Marne Prinsloo

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I have created the Joy Journal for kids. This is for ages 5-12. This journal can be done with parents, or it can be handed to a child to fill in the daily prompt pages.

I am passionate about creating a positive mindset in children. I am currently working on a teenager version that will be for older children 12+.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Joy Journal For Kids. I have seen first hand the positive effect of journalling and gratitude practice and I wanted to teach my kids to also adopt the habit. I have created this journal with my children and we have been spending time together “checking in” on our feelings and our days and it was such a positive experience I wanted to share it with other parents and children.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t think I have unusual writing habits, but I know that children don’t have a long concentration span, so with my graphic design skills and parenting skills together with the believe of a positive mindset I created this journal.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Rachel Hollis was definitely my biggest inspiration an visualisation, implementation and gratitude practice.

What are you working on now?
I have started my research on a journal for older children (preteens and teens), I believe older children can also benefit from adapting this habit of journaling and practising grattitude.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am new to promoting books, I have been listening to podcasts on how to get my books to be more visual to the public. I can not say that I have been very successful in promotion yet.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Not to give up. I have found the process of merely finishing the journal and getting to publication quite hard. I haven given up, and now my journal is available on Amazon and I have 1 review.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If not now, when.

What are you reading now?
The teenage Brain by Frances E. Jensen.

I am reading a couple of relaxing non fiction books from the library and doing my research on teen development and struggles. I am reading

What’s next for you as a writer?
I would like to create a e-book and possibly printed book on the benefits of grattitude practice, positive mindset and how we can incorporate it into the lives of our children on a daily bases.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would take a self help book, a motivational book and one true crime book.

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hi! I’m Jim and I’m a mental health therapist. I love helping folks improve their lives. I’ve written two books. The first was The Best Therapy: A Guide for Wounded Healers. It’s a book for those in the healing and helping professions.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is Who the Fuck are You? It was inspired by so many of my clients saying, “I need to find myself” or “I need to figure it out.” The book is a guide for claiming and transforming your identity in practical ways with some humor thrown in.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Well, I write when it flows and sometimes I’ll write for marathon lengths of time!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
So many: Tom Robbins, Kurt Vonnegut, James Frey and Gabor Mate most notably.

What are you working on now?
Currently a home study program for people seeking recovery from substance use disorder.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
What I know about promotion couldn’t fill a thimble!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Schedule a time to write. Self-discpline ensures progress,

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Do what you love.

What are you reading now?
Gabor Mate’s In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’m thinking a personal challenge in writing fiction

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The first four novels of Tom Robbins. No question.

Showcased Author- 3.) Paul Yanuziello

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
A little about myself. Well, I am a Canadian of Italian heritage. I like to think of myself as a writer, storyteller, musician, martial arts instructor and author. I have two books published and those same two books have been translated to Portuguese. You see the protagonist, Ariela, is in the two books and she is Brazilian and she speaks Portuguese, so it just made sense.
The opportunity to write and teach full time came about in 2017. My day job ended abruptly and I decided it was time to follow the dream.
The dream, to be a professional martial arts instructor and so I began teaching and learning from children and this, in turn, became the motivational force to publish my first children’s book. In 2019, I published “Samba on a Snowy Day”.
I am pleased to report that it received some glowing reviews and started selling well, mostly to my students at first.
I introduced my second book “Samba in Brazil”, book 2 in The Samba Dog book series in 2021. I have been writing and telling imaginative stories ever since I can remember. I got involved in martial arts late in life as a method of dealing with high anxiety, work stress. Martial arts is the best stress reliever you can find. And now after some 35 years of practice, I am considered a highly-skilled martial artist.
It is my great pleasure to share what I know, I have been teaching adults and children Japanese martial arts on a regular basis. When I am not teaching or learning martial arts, you can find me writing, reading or practising shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) in my sanctuary near the beautiful Blue Mountains, Ontario, Canada.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Scratchy the Squirrel – A Time For Friends. This story idea came about through a strange story I read about a person taking care of an injured bumblebee. I found the story to be quite touching and I thought it would be interesting to transfer the idea to the animal kingdom. Plus at that particular time, I had become acquainted with an aggressive squirrel who was getting treats from my wife. She fed the squirrel walnuts. The squirrel became Scratchy.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I am not sure if it’s unusual as I have some author friends who complain about this habit as well. I write every day and I try to write 4 or 5 hundred words. I don’t worry too much about grammar, I just try to relax and write. Some of what I write happens to be what has happened during the previous day or it may even be something I dreamed of.
Sometimes my writing is simply a stream of consciousness. The problem becomes one of trying to read what it is that I’ve written. So the habit I have gotten into is a frustrating one as I know I have a good story in all of this writing somewhere. I just can’t quite figure out what it says sometimes. I have tried writing directly to the computer, and have even gone so far as to get a writing application that is supposed to help organize you. Still, it’s not the same as just finding pen and pad and writing away to your heart’s content.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Some of my favorite children’s authors are: Thornton W. Burgess, Theodor Seuss Geisel, Roald Dahl, George Selden, Maurice Sendak, Beatrix Potter, Ezra Jack Keats, Beverly Cleary, Jacqueline Woodson, Jon Klassen and the list goes on, so many great authors.

What are you working on now?
At present, I am working on a children’s book about a group of forest animals who train in martial arts. They have a master teacher who is rough and super tough. H’s a black bear who also happens to have a big heart and loves to tell his students these wonderful tales about these famous martial artists who lived long ago.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
The best method I have found to get the word out is my weekly newsletter. I try to offer subscribers something interesting, something uplifting and it gives me a chance to share links to where the folks can find my books and also some free offerings by other children’s authors.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
The best advice I can give and the advice I share during creative writing workshops is to always have a pen and paper with you. Or some means or manner of writing your thoughts down. Some great ideas just pop into your head and if you don’t write them down they’re forgotten.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Revise to write – learn the art of editing and polishing your book.

What are you reading now?
My daytime reading, “You Are Born To Blossom” by A.P.J Abdul Kalam and my nighttime reading “Committed: A Skeptic Makes Peace with Marriage” by Elizabeth Gilbert.

What’s next for you as a writer?
My next project will be the third instalment in my Samba the Bernese Mountain Dog book series, Book 3: Samba and Ariela visit Switzerland.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
These are some of the books that I come back to time and again: Masatoshi Nakayama “Best Karate” Series – my favorite is Book 11, Michael A. Singer, “The Untethered Soul”, Mitsugi Saotome, “Aikido and The Harmony of Nature” and lastly, Kahil Gibran “The Prophet” nuggets of gold in that one, something different on each read.

Showcased Author- 1.) Kate Harriet

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a romance book author and ghostwriter of more than twenty years, who enjoys writing sweet romance books series.

These novels are mostly set in a little Kentish village, featuring tight-knit communities, a playboy earl with a scandalous reputation and a hardworking heroine who not only brings the hero to his knees but must stand up for herself to seize the happy-ever-after she deserves.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
A Spring Romance with the Earl was inspired by reading a lot of Jane Austen and wanting to create a fun and modern regency story with the kind of wonderful chemistry that sparks between a brooding aristocrat and a rather flawed but inspiring heroine.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
My writing habits are pretty much 9 to 5. However one habit I have is playing video games like Nintendo’s Animal Crossing before I write.

I wish I could justify this by saying it really helps with my creativity. But the truth is that if I don’t play Animal Crossing first, I forget to play it at all, then my favourite character Kiki (a cat) will get in a strop for not getting her that vegetarian shirt that she’s been asking for, pack up her things and take off.

However, fishing for virtual carp and watering my e-tulips does seem to clear my mind before writing, but your results and catch of the day may vary.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I enjoy light-hearted romance books that are a little bit escapist, emotional and funny at times, usually including a slightly arrogant alpha male with a clever female main character who can melt his heart.

I also love a hero and heroine who are wonderfully flawed yet balance out each other, so that there is at least some room for growth as they earn their happy ever after. These kind of stories tend to stay with me the longest and it’s probably why I’m just a wee bit obsessed with Jane Austen.

What are you working on now?
I’m starting to write A Summer Romance with the Earl, the latest in the An Earl for all Seasons series, which will feature beleaguered copywriter Jess Smith as she juggles her career with village commitments while being wooed by the notorious Lord Burness.

I’m hoping the book will be a great read for those who like a holiday summer romance, opening the door to a whole series of sweet and exciting romance books for readers to sink their teeth into.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Honestly, the best method I’ve found for promoting my books is through sites like awesomegang.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Try to read as much advice as possible from authors you wish to emulate, then create your own writers’ toolkit with what works for you.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
As above, pick the writing advice that works best for you. If it doesn’t don’t beat yourself up.

Writers like to add a lot of mystique to our jobs (see below paragraph), because writing about sitting on your bottom while you poke keys on a keyboard is about as fascinating as it sounds.

What are you reading now?
The Count of Monte Cristo, because I normally ban myself from reading romance fiction when I’m about to write a novel. I made that mistake once and was lured away from my own story by another author with a bag of sweet subplots. I ended up with a horrific romance chimera which I had to hunt down and take out with a blunderbuss.

Moral of the story: Someone else’s plot might be a perfect fit for their romance story, but might stick out like Zaphod Beeblebrox’s second head in yours.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To finish writing A Summer Romance with the Earl and to complete the An Earl for All Seasons series.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Daniel Craig, Regé-Jean Page, Chris Ev-. Oh you asked what ‘books’ I would bring. Sigh

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexander Dumas because I really skimped on reading during the Christmas holidays, thanks to watching such festive gems as the entire new Bond Series, Die Hard and Terry Pratchett’s the Abominable Snow Baby.

Grinny by Nicholas Fisk because it was my first real sci-fi book as a child and it cured me of a debilitating My Little Pony obsession. Also I find it utterly magical to revisit books that I found thrilling when I were a mere sproglet. I mean, you remember me…don’t you?

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, because I have yet to read a regency romance that surpasses this yet, but if you know of one please message me via my website as I am very open to recommendations!

Also, there is only one Darcy.

Showcased Author- 2.) Michael Solomowitz

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Michael Solomowitz hails from Coney Island, Brooklyn, and has cherished his roller-coaster ride as a writer. He began writing scripts for Manhattan Cable-TV and wrote for Warner Bros. in Hollywood. As a freelance sports journalist, he has published dozens of articles in national and trade publications and contributed to two non-fiction sports books. As a playwright and director, his plays have appeared on stages from Los Angeles to Long Island to Boston. BEHIND THE FOURTH WALL is his debut novel.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Behind The Fourth Wall is my new book. It was inspired by my love for live theater and my new home on Cape Cod.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Not particularly unless you consider starting my writing day early, around 5:30 a.m. Earlier if I couldn’t sleep that night.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
For classics — Hemingway, Mitchell, Steinbeck, Salinger, and Malamud. More recently, Donna Tartt, Dan Brown, and Michael Crichton.

What are you working on now?
I’m working on a new novel that centers on post-war Coney Island, Brooklyn, where I grew up.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Facebook seems to have my biggest supporters but, as I said, I’m new to this so it could change.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing. The first novel I wrote took six years and I couldn’t get an agent interested in it. Failing is part of the process. Don’t give up.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Lewis Carroll — “In the end we only regret the chances we didn’t take.”

What are you reading now?
Donna Tartt’s The Goldfinch

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ve written the first draft of a new play that needs some work once I can get back to it.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Gone With The Wind, The Old Man and the Sea, Angels and Demons, The Goldfinch

Showcased Author- 3.) Therese-Åsa Karl Namo

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m a non-binary, autistic writer and storyteller. Together with my partner, I write queer fiction for the LGBTQA and neuro-divergent family and allies.

We have a special way of working, where we’ll first record the story as it comes to us (sometimes over several months), then write it down into fiction format. By now, we have 18 (eighteen) finished stories recorded and we’re working on publishing our first novel. We have published two short stories already.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Our latest book is a short story, a queer fantasy for all ages. I believe it came to us to cheer us up because it’s a really funny little story with a lot of heart. It always gets me into a better mood listening to it or reading it.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
It would be the process of writing the stories, from beginning to end. They always come to me and my partner first as something that wants to be told. So we sit down and record them, telling them to each other. This process can be really quick, or it can be spread out over several months and with breaks in between the “chapters”. Then comes the process of writing it, and filling in the gaps that make it more coherent in written format.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Priscilla Cogan’s Wiona series. It’s so full of heart and I feel so good reading them (I’ve read them several times). Those books taught me what an impact an author can have just from the way they write.

What are you working on now?
Our first novel, a queer sci-fi story about Bianca, a lost space traveler who encounters a forgotten ship. Once in, she meets Alicia and together they start to form a bond that goes beyond what they thought was possible.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Still working on that one, there are so many ways and I guess it’s about finding the way that works best for you.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Do it. It can be scary to write and publish your books, but if you have something to say it’s worth the whole journey.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
“The mind cannot understand everything.” That there are things beyond what the intellect can grasp and those are the things worth striving for in life.

What are you reading now?
Priscilla Cogan, Double Time. The only book left of hers that I haven’t read yet 🙂

What’s next for you as a writer?
Start spreading our short stories and finish writing our first novel. That’s the next exciting step in our author journey and one that I’m looking forward to very much.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I guess the ones I keep coming back to, which are Pricilla Cogan’s Wiona series and Sarah Luddington’s all books (gay romance in different genres). They are all so lovely and I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve re-read them.

Advice: Reviewing How I’d Tackle Feedback On Taking Comments “So Personally”

TRIGGER WARNING!! THIS CONTENT MAY BE HARMFUL TO SENSITIVE READERS!!

Hello Everyone!

Hopefully, you are powering through this hump day Wednesday afternoon!? I’m happy to see that my Kindle Vella short story #11 entitled, “Juggling Motherhood & Working With The Tools” is now live on Amazon. Guess who found more questions for your reading pleasure on Quora? That’s right- this gal! 🙂 I’m debating as to whether or not I’m the best or worst person to answer this question. I rarely take anything that comes out of a person’s mouth as personal. However, it doesn’t make me immune to another person who could perceive me as taking a comment too personally. For my entire career, I have been submersed amongst a pool of the biggest savages. These people live to see another person react wildly to their cesspool of filthy comments. I’m not immune to this pleasure. I’ve learned how to dive even deeper into the cesspool in an effort to find something even worse to respond during my 29-year career in construction. Watching the blood leave from a co-worker’s face while they’re responding to my retort was deeply satisfying. I once called a co-worker a, “regurgitated piece of afterbirth”. This co-worker realized that he couldn’t gross me out and force me to back down. Some guys say stuff in an effort to pull a power move and dominate my emotions. I literally have a force shield around my emotions when I’m at work. I’ve been told that I’m a woman who is to be seen and not heard. One co-worker called me Monica Lewinsky since I’m fat and probably need to suck d*ck in order to get by in life. Meanwhile, I’m super muscular like a dude and can lift a car. I’ve gotten my fair share of ball breaking on my manly strength and perceptions on my physical appearance. I’ve even had co-workers ask my why I’m even there? I should have snagged a man so that I can be a housewife. Sadly, many times I’ve had to meet fire with fire- a bigger flame that forces them to back down. Many times, I’ve shifted the power dynamic from them trying to torment me to my retorts driving the co-worker to rage while I’m laughing and getting co-workers in earshot a hearty laugh. I’d be lying if I said that these moments didn’t give me sheer satisfaction. One co-worker used to call me the “Double Entendre Queen” since some of my retorts could be interpreted as either normal or sexually laden dialogue. I’d have to ask some co-workers of some of my responses since I cannot remember everything. I’m sure some of my retorts have been seared into the mind of a co-worker from years past. Now that I’ve been in management, I can’t interact in the same manner. I’m sure the “Me Too” movement would have some impact on limiting that banter as well. That is the one thing that I miss about the tools. You can decide if I am the worst or an expert to answer this question- I won’t be offended. I’ve heard even worse. Now do you still wonder why there are not more women in construction? My pal Brian Reyes did recall a time, in the “Tramping In Cali” 3-part podcast episodes, when he was told to not help a woman on the job. Meanwhile, the task required two sets of hands. He was told that if she wanted to be in construction, she needs to pull more than her own weight. Brian ended up helping the young woman regardless. I had a guy force me, as a 2nd year apprentice, to use my hacksaw and cut 12″-inch pieces of 1-5/8″ strut that are 10-feet per length. This was despite the fact that there was a bandsaw power tool nearby. His goal was to break me. I should do a podcast episode about times co-workers wanted to try to break me. By now, perhaps you have an idea as to how I developed a turtle shell? LOL- if not, keep reading my blog, book, and podcast content. Here is the posed question and my response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“What do you say if someone says you are taking everything so personally?”

By Raiseyy K

MY RESPONSE:

“Firstly, I somewhat laughed at the question since I found it to be humorous. I have developed a thick skin, like leather, as a female construction worker over the past 29-years. I’ve trained myself to not take anything personally. I will teach you how to be a stone wall like me. 😛 I’m approaching this question as if someone has ever said this to me and it actually applied to me. How would I tackle it? I would have to step back from this feedback emotionally. Instead, I would have to approach this feedback logically. Why am I taking the comments so personally? Were each of the comments said once? twice? Are the comments all built off each other? What was the person’s response when delivering their feedback? I would also have to think about my responses to the person’s comments. When repeating back to my responses in my mind, do they sound whiny? Exactly how does the comments evoke emotion? What kneejerk thought comes to mind when I reflect on the comments? Does my feedback sound like I went down the rabbit hole to think a generalized comment applied to me personally? Did I take into account the responder’s sarcasm or jovial approach? Do we have a conflict in personality? Oftentimes, comments are said in jest to evoke a laugh do come from a sliver of truth. I have to determine if I want these words to have power over my emotions? I need to evaluate the root source of the person’s words. You have to realize that not everything that comes from a person’s lips is intended to cut you like a dagger. If you genuinely believe that this person is being hurtful, then limit your interactions with them. If I can’t get past the comment, then it would be logical to set a boundary and ask the person to avoid the topic in my presence. Then again, as a female construction worker, I have never told anyone to not speak about a topic in front of me. If I was foolish enough to do that while at work, it’s like a bell over my head inviting co-workers to break my chops even more rigorously. There is a saying that, “there are no feelings in construction”. My work life approach to conflict has slightly seeped into my personal life. I’ve personally learned to have an equally sharp tongue and find something to fire back. I’ve broken their chops to the extent that the initial interaction was forgotten. Years ago, I even had one guy approach me in anger, and borderline tears, while asking me to back off of him. Of course, this was after him needling me on a daily basis with accusations of being an inept worker because of my gender. (I speak even further about my return fire of momma’s boy comments on my #ConstructionTales blog.) I’ve learned that people can’t handle a dose of their own medicine. Now, I will lightly break a person’s chops in my own personal life. I save my epic savagery for co-workers who dare to rattle my emotions while at work. I prefer and gravitate towards peace and harmony in my sanctuary at home. However, I’m not afraid of returning fire or even initially being playful with a person, via using sarcasm. However, my goal would be to never hurt anyone. I believe that a one time discussion is one thing. Speak your peace on it and walk away. If the person keeps bringing it up, they are trying to evoke your emotions. Personally, if I cross paths with a vicious person in my personal life, perhaps I would dodge them socially. This person would have to be constantly trying to say things that are intended to harm me on a regular basis. My sons call me a “cinder flower” so perhaps I’m either the best or worst person to respond to this question. I don’t tend to take what people say as personal. I’m too stubborn to allow vicious people to take up space in my head for free rent. I believe that they as speaking based upon their series of life experiences. Talking points are their free choice to convey. My responsibility only lies with how I consume the data and how I allow future data to cross my path. At the end of the day, YOU have to assess if you are genuinely taking the comments personal. You also have to assess if the intent was harm or just speaking freely. Set boundaries on future interactions or dodge that person if it is best for your mental health. You are the captain of your ship and have the power over your mind, body, and soul. Only you know what is the right thing to do. Take the feedback into consideration and move accordingly. I wish you much luck on your future interactions that occur along your life path.”

Thanks for swinging by the blog to check my advice. Let me know, in the comment section below, if you either like or dislike my advice? If you hold a position, why do you believe the way you do? Would you consider yourself to be very sensitive? Do you have a hardened shell like a turtle just like myself? How did you develop your turtle shell? Mine came from work and my personal life experiences as a survival tactic. It’s pretty safe to say that I won’t become sensitive any time soon. I’m sorry if that disappoints you (a joke). Sensitive people will not like my content anyways. I hope you learn something from this short story. There are more to come. These short stories are now also available as Verbally Disastrous podcast episodes.

Vol. #5: Showcasing (4) More Awesome Gang Authors!!

Hello Everyone!

Hopefully, you are relaxing/sleeping before heading out to work on this Tuesday night/Wednesday morning!? If you are the night owl working away, I tip my hat to you sir or ma’am. May you have a safe evening/early AM and a restful day upon the end of your shift. I always respect the hustle. I received an email that my newest short story, for Kindle Vella on Amazon, #11 entitled, “Juggling Motherhood & Working With The Tools” is now live. My task this week is to create and edit the audio version of “Not All Girls Play With Dolls”. This post is intended to share even more work of some independent authors, such as myself, and earn some good karma in the process. Why not offer you a taste of a variety of authors with different content? Feel free to copy and paste and share this content on your blog, if you like. For now, I’m connecting with the authors in an effort to build my author network. Hopefully, they will follow back. I’m game to cross promote each other on social media as well. Just let me know or re-tweet one of my posts and I will automatically return the favor. I’m totally cool with it all. When you are a small content creator, it is important to help others out. I’m debating about posting questions for the authors down below and connect with them to answer them. I’m then thinking that they are answering enough questions already. Let me know your thoughts on that personal suggestion down the in the comment section below. Here are (3) showcased authors down below:

Showcased Author- 1.) Wela Kabane

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am the author of the fantasy fiction trilogy The Kenryk Series. I am a hybrid introvert/extrovert with a social battery of two hours. I have been writing since I was ten years old and finally gathered the courage to let my characters engage with other people who are not me by going the self publishing route. Music is my muse -with- according to Spotify, Kpop being my most listened to genre. I enjoy singing hopelessly out of tune in my car and pretending I can keep up with complicated choreography in my attempt to do cardio. I also feel awkward writing this about myself.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Kenryk Series: The Avaris. As for inspiration, it is normally music. I have been writing non-stop since I was 10. I always have a book in me, some story that wants me to write it.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I cannot force myself to write. If I am not anchored to something, be it music or TV series or anything, I cannot write. I only write when my mind decides.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Sherilynn Kenyon, J.K Rowling, A.C. Jordan are some of the authors that have inspired me. I read mostly books not in my genre, though, so perhaps the only fantasy fiction book that has inspired me is the Lord of the Rings

What are you working on now?
The second book in my trilogy called The Kenryk Series: The Rise of of the Emoryk

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve mostly been using facebook and instagram and running campaigns on Amazon

Do you have any advice for new authors?
You need the audacity to believe you can do it. Don’t overthink it. Just do it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t overthink. Do you.

What are you reading now?
I’m in a reading funk.

What’s next for you as a writer?
To continue growing as a writer. To read even more books. To create a connection with my readers.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Anything by Lucy Lennox, Ella Frank and Eden Finley

Showcased Author- 2.) Rachel Griffin

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m still a fairly new author having written five books and debuted two of them. I;m currently working on my sixth book and plan to release my third in spring 2022. I was born and raised in Cleveland, OH, though I wouldn’t release any of my work until 2020 when I arrived to Cincinnati, OH. I had never done anything like this before, being able to learn on my own and with the help of my husband was amazing. I’ve always been shy, but releasing my writing and photography has really helped me get out of my shell and be more open to speaking to people. Especially with me discovering how powerful my voice can be.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is entitled Traumas Left Behind: Heartbreak. It’s a compilation of poems I had written about my failed past relationships. I was consistently heartbroken and many of the events and actions during those relationships traumatized me to the point where I would treat my current husband badly. I was hurting myself more mentally and emotionally because I was unable to let go of the traumas those relationships caused. I wanted to heal, and I’ve been able to do so. By writing this book, I hope those who read it are inspired to heal internally as well. Not just for themselves, but for those around them. Especially if they have children.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’ll write a bunch of short hand notes over a few months before I finally begin writing chapters. I’ll always take a year or so writing before I get to the editing and proofreading. I want my books to be as perfect as possible before I put them out. Rushing never helped, Learned that when writing my first novel Khyrus: Deity of Virtue & Strength.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Maya Angelou was/is my biggest inspiration. She went through so much, but conquered each obstacle.

What are you working on now?
The final touches of my already written books and begging my sixth.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Promotional ads on social media have helped me so much over the last few months. Especially with COVID restrictions/limitations causing a lot of things to not run as smoothly as they were before.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Never quit. No matter if it’s your first book or 100th book. The more you write, the better you get.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Quitters never get far in life.

What are you reading now?
I’m currently reading Deja Soul, written by Rachel Griffin. She’s an underground author. The book hasn’t been released yet, but the story will be worth the read.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Writing more poems and getting more projects under my belt.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?

  1. Survival Book
  2. Navigation Book
  3. Notebook

Showcased Author- 3.) Luiza Tițu

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I was born on January 15, 1986 in Teleorman, Romania. I started with the novel “Irecuperabil” in 2019, written and published in my home country. I currently live in Germany, where I published the English version of the novel, Irretrievable.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The last book I wrote is something different from what I wrote in the past. It is the story of a woman who travels to the past. The book is in progress at the publishing house. I always had an affinity for the past.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I write at night. I don’t know if it’s unusual, most writers probably feel more comfortable and relaxed during the night. Unusual would probably be the fact that I wake up during the night with an idea that I write down immediately. It doesn’t matter what time it is …

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Every book I read in the past influenced me, national or international works. They all contributed a bit to my training. And I really read a lot …

What are you working on now?
Now I am working on volume II of the last book, the first volume is already working on the publishing house and a volume of poetry.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
When it comes to promoting my books, I admit I’m not good at it. I use a Facebook page and that’s about it … unfortunately.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If writing is their passion, don’t give up. To write daily, no matter how little. It matters a lot!

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
The best advice that really helped me was read in an interview with Hemingway. “You read what you wrote and, as you always stop when you know what is going to happen, keep going. You write until you get to a point where you still have sap and you know what’s going to happen next; you stop and try to live until the next day, when you “hit” again. ”

What are you reading now?
Unfortunately, writing takes up a lot of my time … I’ve put reading aside for now.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Surely many stories will come to life, I still have so much to tell. I will never stop writing, I could not live without it. Writing makes me feel complete.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Hemingway, Hemingway, Hemingway… ;p ( smiling)

Let me know your thoughts on that personal suggestion down the in the comment section below. Here are (3) showcased authors down below:

Showcased Author- 1.) Jori Aguilar

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Hello! I’m Jori. Over the past fifteen years, I’ve lived in five countries. This has expanded my palette and offered me plenty of material to write about. I studied medicine in university, which left me feeling empty-handed, so instead of reading medical books, I began to concentrate on writing. Since then, I’ve written over twenty books but I’m only just now breaking into the industry and giving it my full attention.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I’ve set out to write a new series called Making Waves with the first book Making Waves on the Aegean. This story came about when I told some friends over dinner one night about my adventures living on a sailboat in the Greek Isles. I was supposed to be teaching people how to sail, but instead…I was just making waves!

My friends loved the story and told me I needed to write a book about it.

So I did!

I have other books too, with new releases coming out every few months. In 2021, I released four books and I have another one dropping in a couple of months, so if you love books, come explore my mind!

Create. Inspire. Repeat.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
No. But I get easily distracted. So I do my best creating in solitude where I have nothing but time.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I was so inspired by Tolstoy’s War and Peace and what he left behind that I wanted to write a book of my own. I’m also influenced by Dickens and his connection with the working class and what Austen did for women authors.

What are you working on now?
I’ve just finished my next novel called The Poet. It’s literary fiction based on a true story about an immigrant janitor that stalked me and wrote me poetry years ago. Soon I’ll be starting a fantasy trilogy, testing the market.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m just learning the art of advertising and how to swim above water in this industry. It’s a numbers game. Trial and error.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep writing and finding your voice. Write about what you know.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Keep writing and finding your voice. Write about what you know.

What are you reading now?
I’m not reading anything because I’m writing a book and I don’t want my writing style to be influenced and to change mid-book! I really enjoyed the last book I read, The Thread by Victoria Hislop.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have plans to make an audiobook for Making Waves on the Aegean while I search for agents for The Poet and begin writing my fantasy novel. After that, I have two more series in the works. Both literary fiction, one historical fiction work, and a sci-fi. Besides writing books, I write songs.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible
The Doorway Papers by Arthur Custance
The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy

Showcased Author- 2.) Zariya Grant

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’ve published one book called “I See You,” I started it in high school and revamped it in 2021. I have started other books and ghostwritten a book for a friend. I usually write screenplays, but overall, I just enjoy making a world where I, and others like me, can escape to. So, if you read any of my other writings, they’ll have nods to other works I’ve done.

I want my characters to be people everyone can relate to, so I draw from my own experiences as a woman, a Pagan in a family of Christians, a member of the LGBT community, a person of color, and I listen to others and how they want to be seen by the media. Some of my characters will have anxiety, but that doesn’t make them weak, and some of my male characters will be in touch with their nurturing side, which doesn’t make them girly. I can’t wait to share my writing with others.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“I See You” is my latest book. It started off as a fun concept about witches, in the original draft, there were a lot more comedic moments that maybe I’ll share with the world one day. I ended up revamping it once I saw that witchcraft was becoming popular, but not only was it becoming popular, but a lot of misinformation was being thrown about. I realized: I have a book about witches, I’m a Pagan who dabbles… why not use my book to create the magic I loved from reading books like it when I was a kid, but with a more accurate representation of what magic really is? I also wanted a book where the protagonist was a person of color.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I’ll start writing my story, then go to the last chapter and write how I want it to end. Sometimes I imagine myself as each character to see exactly how they’d respond or act in a chapter. I might look crazy acting everything out, but I feel it’s the best way to keep my characters consistent throughout the story.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
There was a book I read called “Beautiful Demons” that heavily inspired the sisterhood you see between the female characters in my book. I read the story a long time ago, but I vaguely remember the chapter with the sleepover where the girls went outside and did magic. That inspired the chapter in “I See You” where Marlowe and Fiona are using magic to spice up their sleepover and Fiona gives Marlowe a tarot reading.

What are you working on now?
I have two ideas related to “I See You” but I don’t know which to start first. I’ll decide when I get more feedback on the first book. For now, I’ll brainstorm and work on my screenplays.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Right now, social media in general. My target audience is there, and it’s the best way to circulate information right now.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write, don’t worry about what other people think. If you worry about any feedback you ‘might’ get, you’ll hold yourself back from writing what you want to. Everyone will have something to say about your work, it just matters if you’re happy with your work.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Just write now and edit later. Don’t focus on typos and errors yet. Worry about those when you reread your work to edit it. It helps me keep focus and write all of my ideas out without getting sidetracked.

What are you reading now?
Right now, I’m too busy to read anything.

What’s next for you as a writer?
After promoting my book, I’m focusing on more books and screenplays.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I See You, and the Beautiful Demons series.

Showcased Authors- 3.) Scott and Ashley Roepel

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
We have published three books in our fantasy series, Thread of Souls. We absolutely love the fantasy genre, and these books are based off a TTRPG game we play at home. We fell in love with these stories and characters we created, so it only felt right to turn them into a book series! It’s definitely been a passion project.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The most recent installment in the Thread of Souls series is Path of the Spiders. It was about three years ago that we played this plotline out at the table. We really loved the darker turn the plot took, and the heavier decisions character had to make.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Turning a TTPRG game into a book series is definitely unusual! We keep very detailed notes at the end of every game we play. And then, years later, we go through those notes to transform them into what is appropriate for a book format. This ends up giving us a highly detailed outline.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
We’ve always loved the Bartimaeus books by Jonathan Stroud. The style of writing, the rich world, and dynamic characters have stuck with us as some of the best work we’ve ever read.

What are you working on now?
We are currently working on the fourth book in the series! Asunder will be out in December of this year. We are so excited to tease it throughout the year!

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
As indie authors, we are still learning that, haha. But it seems people can’t easily resist free ebooks!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write what you want to write. At the end this project, if you don’t like it or feel moved by it, then the promotional part won’t be any fun at all. But if you pour your heart and soul into it, then it won’t matter if it gets a million sales or none at all, you still will love it.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
We can’t remember where it came from now, but it was about not worrying about what is trendy in the moment. The truest and best stories transcend trends.

What are you reading now?
Recently finished Six of Crows and currently are working out way through the older Dragonlance books.

What’s next for you as a writer?
We have an eight-book series planned for Thread of Souls, which we call the Spider Octology. Beyond that, we have many more prequels, supplements, and other stories to tell within this world!

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Wow, what a good question! Probably all four of the Bartimaeus books, haha. We can never grow tired of reading those.

Vol. #3: Showcasing (3) More Awesome Gang Authors!!

Hello Everyone!

Hopefully, you are relaxing within the four walls of a warm and dry environment on this Tuesday evening!? If you are the night owl working away, I tip my hat to you sir or ma’am. May you have a safe evening and a restful day upon the end of your shift.

Showcased Author 1.) Jasmine Farrell

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I’m from Brooklyn, New York and I ‘m a foodie. I love doing voice overs for poems and I love coloring or playing board games when I’m stressed. I grew up pretty sheltered so I’m a bit of a late bloomer with this whole, “Living my own life!” thing. Having a blast so far though.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I released my debut novel, Sloppy on January 11th, 2022. In 2018, after a counseling session, I decided to truthfully share and vent what I went through in black and white. When I read it back, I realized: There is a story in this that many can relate too. A fiction story about my own past was brewing and I had to get it out. However, once I dug in, the characters began to show me who they were. I let the characters fly out of my timeline and plot. What was supposed to be 80% based on a true story is now 20% based on a true story.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I still write 55% of my drafts and other works by hand. I know, I know…double the work, but I can’t help it!

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Yes! Zora Neale Hurston, Eric Jerome Dickey and Toni Morrison. They haven’t influenced my writing perse but they made me realize that my voice, my writing has room at the table as well.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on the second installment of Sloppy.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
BookBuzz.net
Amanda is dope!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Don’t be afraid to share your words! Don’t worry if it’s messy, you can clean it up. Don’t worry about the errors, you can make corrections. Write. There is an audience for you (outside of yourself).

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
If the book you’re itching to read is nowhere to be found- that’s because you’re meant to write it.

What are you reading now?
Purple Flames : Inferno of Poetry by Shana A

What’s next for you as a writer?
To complete the Sloppy series (there will be 3-4 books in total).

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Chasing Destiny by Eric Jerome Dickey
Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
Sula by Toni Morrison

Showcased Author 2.) Jason Fisk

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Jason Fisk lives and writes in the suburbs of Chicago. He has worked in a psychiatric unit, labored in a cabinet factory, and mixed cement for a bricklayer. He was born in Ohio, raised in Minnesota, and has spent the last few decades in the Chicago area. He has had essays, short stories, and poems published in various online and print journals. He recently had a small collection of poetry published by Kelsay Books: Sub Urbane. He has also had a number of books and chapbooks published: Sadly Beautiful, essays, poems, and short stories published by Leaf Garden Press; Salt Creek Anthology, a collection of micro-fiction published by Chicago Center for Literature and Photography; the fierce crackle of fragile wings, a collection of poetry published by Six Gallery Press; as well as two poetry chapbooks: The Sagging: Spirits and Skin, and Decay, both published by Propaganda Press.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Craigslist Incident was inspired by a news article that I read about a young lady who took a hit out on herself through a Craigslist advertisement. I couldn’t shake the article, and I began following the situation, reading everything that I could find on the internet. It haunted me. I just knew that I had to write about it. What would drive a young lady to take a hit out on herself, and what kind of person would answer the advertisement?

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Unfortunately, I do not have any unusual writing habits.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
When I was a young reader, I loved Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. It’s the first book that made me cry. I also loved Mark Twain and E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web (the second book that made me cry). Other authors who have influenced me are: William Carlos Williams, John Irving, Flannery O’Connor, Toni Morrison, Miriam Toews, Sandra Cisneros, Chuck Palahniuk, and many more.

What are you working on now?
Currently, I am working on a new novel, and that’s all I’m going to say about it; I don’t want to jinx myself. I also enjoy writing poetry when I have an idea for a poem, and/or I need a break from writing the novel.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I think the best method for promoting books is through word of mouth, so any social media website where I am active and able spread the word about the book is good. I really like Goodreads because it is for people who like to read books.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Be willing to put in the hard work. Also, read, read, and read some more.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
My mom always told my sisters and I to place people over things. I know it’s not writing advice, but it is something that I have adopted as a life philosophy.

What are you reading now?
I am currently reading Jim Harrison’s Complete Poems. I adore him as a writer.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I have a novel coming out from Unsolicited Press in June, The Craigslist Incident. I’m very excited about it, so I’d have to say that the novel’s release is the next thing I’m focusing on as a writer.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
I would bring Miriam Toews’ All My Puny Sorrows; Jim Harrison’s Complete Poems; John Irving’s A Prayer for Owen Meany; and, last but certainly not least, Toni Morrison’s Beloved.

Showcased Author 3.) Marie-Claire Ross

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I love reading books on human behaviour and running a business. I find it fascinating to learn new things that make us better as human beings.

I have written two books. My first book was Transform your Safety Communication. My latest book is called Trusted to Thrive: How leaders create connected and accountable teams.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
My latest book is called Trusted to Thrive: How leaders create connected and accountable teams.

It was inspired by the research and work that I have been doing within organisations during the pandemic. I found that leaders were losing their confidence on how to lead people when they were working from home.

The pandemic has really created a need for leaders do lead differently. Unfortunately, many leaders are going back to the bad habits that sort of worked before COVID.

It’s now time to lead differently or risk career failure.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I love writing. I get a bit obsessed by it. If I can’t sleep, I’ll just get up and write. That could mean writing at 1am in the morning or 4am. I then sleep in and start my day a bit later.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I love books by Dan Pink, Malcolm Gladwell, Jim Collins and Liz Wise. Business books that are heavily researched and well written. They make you look at the world differently.

What are you working on now?
I am turning my TRUSTED TO THRIVE book into a training program.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I have had a blog since 2009 and while it has changed, a lot of my audience have hung on. I find writing weekly and letting people know what my new book is about generates a lot excitement.

I also ask my readers for help. My book title and cover were all tested with my readers.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Keep going. Don’t stop writing. I started writing weekly in 2009, but I didn’t have the confidence to write my first book until 2013. I was more than ready. If you are writing a lot, just know that you are ready to get your book written.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Ignore the little negative voice in your head. It’s only useful if it’s asking “is this of interest to my readers?’ Anything else is a distraction.

What are you reading now?
Sense-making by Christian Madsbjerg

What’s next for you as a writer?
Promoting my latest book and getting it into the hands of as many people as possible.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
You can heal your life by Louise Hay
Ask and it is given by Esther Hicks
Atlas Shrugged
A new book I haven’t read.

Doesn’t seem any point to read business books when you are stranded!
