How are you enjoying your Sunday today!? Whatever your plans are for today, hopefully you are enjoying your life with your beloved friends and/or family. Don’t forget to recharge those metaphorical batteries over the weekend. You don’t want to burn yourself out with the stress of a career and juggling family life. When my sons were younger, I did endure quite a few stressful times. This was especially true during the 2008 Recession. This is why I opted to do a podcast episode discussion about the 2008 Recession. I have posted the links to that discussion on powering through an economic recession down below. On the other hand, I’m happy to see the point in life where one of my son’s get to experience an amazing moment in time. Right now, my youngest teenager Johnny is experiencing some epic wins with his varsity football team. Last night, they experienced a Class AA Division Championship win for Carmel High School. The last time the varsity football team won a division playoff game, it was back in 1989! They have another playoff game at Mahopac High School on Saturday (11/20) at 3PM. The Carmel Rams are playing against the Christain Brothers Academy out of Albany, New York. Here is the website of our teams competition:

If the Carmel Rams defeat the Christian Brothers Academy, the following week is at Middletown High School. The winners go onto Syracuse and play for the state championship on December 4th. I’m excited for them no matter how far they go. I would like to see them go to Syracuse. I know that is a journey in the car. Hopefully, they go as far as becoming state champs!! If not, they have had an amazing season. My son is hyped to play even more sports. He wants to get into wrestling and/or lacrosse. I am happy for my son that he is a part of this amazing experience. There are many kids on the team. The seniors get priority on the field as starters. My son Tom and I were laughing at how Johnny started badgering the line coach to get in the game. He was super hyped up to play. He will get more play time next year as a senior and as long as he makes it to practice. Last night the temperature was in the low 30’s Fahrenheit. You wouldn’t be able to tell since the kids were hyped up for the championship win! I missed video recording the part where they dumped the Gatorade on Coach Cayea. He has been waiting for that moment for a long time! I hope it happens in the stadium up in Syracuse! Here are some short video clips of the game last night! My son Tom is in the background, sometimes in front, giving commentary as well as Johnny’s father.

Are you children actively in football playoffs as well? Do you belong to the group who believes that football in high school should no longer exist. Feel free to share your thoughts with me your feedback in the comment section down below. I believe that football was an important part of my two son’s lives. My eldest was way more involved in the football journey from middle school to high school. Football kept him on the path of graduating school and staying away from the drug crowd. Johnny is getting interested in football during his junior year. He is already thinking about getting himself ready for next year to play football as a senior. It is super cool to see him activate the “beast mode” that is inside him. More importantly, seeing him get motivated and ultra excited for opportunities in an effort to become his personal best. The latest short story is entitled: #8 Surviving The 2008 Recession As A Construction Worker. I decided to write about the impact of the 2008 Recession on myself and my family. I managed to get caught up in this vicious cycle of unemployment that happened as a result of the economic recession. Boy, was that an emotionally draining part of my life! I wanted to share the story in an effort to make the reader aware of how deeply the construction industry was impacted by the actions on Wall Street. Hello Everyone!

What’s going on during you hump day today!? Have any kick ass upcoming weekend plans other than listening to The Verbally Disastrous Podcast? Excuse me while a giggle like a school girl! 😛 Whatever your plans, hopefully you are enjoying your life with your beloved friends and/or family. It’s time to recharge those metaphorical batteries so you don’t burn yourself out. The role as the matriarch or patriarch is very busy and exhausting. At one point in my life, I was playing the role of mom and dad after the husband died. I’m way too old and tired to even try to do that today. I had a massage lady walk on my back and kick the shit out of me today to loosen up the back muscles. I do not enjoy massages. I just try to survive and get through them without screaming. I have been enduring a beating by an Asian lady’s mean elbow for the past 15-years. Now, I’m going to feel like dog shit for the next two days. My muscles feel like there is some acid in them and all bruised up. The lady said, “you should stretch”. Yes, I do stretch so that I can actually walk. Anyone else struggle with spasms and muscle problems like I do? All of my years messing with rigid conduit and being on the “bull gang” while pulling in 500 MCM feeder wires has killed my back. I came back from my spa ass kicking and worked to finish editing Part B on my discussion on the 2008 Recession. Due to the size of the raw content recorded, I had to split it up into Part A and Part B. I released Part A, Podcast Episode #37 yesterday onto my podcast platforms and YouTube. I forced myself to release Part B tonight. Therefore, I sharing with you the last part of the discussion. Of course I have the link to the podcast on Spotify in the links down below. As a gentle reminder, the podcast has been launched on over 20 podcast platforms. Chances are quite high that the Verbally Disastrous is on the podcast platform that you prefer to use. Here is Part B on the discussion of powering through an economic recession. Up until this point in time, the only recession that was even worse what the Great Depression. My grandmother, may she rest in peace, did share with me how she rationed things, like aluminum foil, during the Great Depression and wasted NOTHING! I genuinely wished that I asked my grandmother far more questions than I did. I wish I knew my paternal grandparents on a deeper level. They died when I was a child so I missed out on that opportunity. Learning about the time period that they lived in is fascinating and very different compared to today.

It was indeed a perspective that I appreciated. In comparison, I didn’t have to go as drastic. You know why? I had credit cards that were ready to be tapped. If I didn’t have that as a resource, I would have had to cook from scratch and go into real frugal mode. I learned how to go into frugal mode as a very young widow without any credit cards or resources to tap into. I did make $20 worth of groceries last two weeks. My son Tom shared that he didn’t feel deprived during my struggle years. He was happy with his VCR, TV, his favorite movies, and his Sega Genesis. I worked my ass off to make sure he stayed in the same house for over +20 years. I believe that stability, as a single mom, is an incredible accomplishment! I remember having far less than my son and having to share my resources with my sister. Even then, I was blissfully unaware for many years that my mother was broke as a divorced woman. My dad used to cry about paying $100/month for two kids for child support. Are you kidding me!? LOL That child support obligation would be a wet dream even back in the 1980’s! Back when I was in the struggle, I was eating a carbohydrate laden diet and gaining weight as a result. Rice and pasta and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were a daily staple. Sadly, I associate raising children with the struggle. As a 46-year old woman, there is zero way that I would agree to have another baby and go on that journey. I don’t want to get with a man and struggle with him either. I’m open to accepting a man’s kid(s) who are already past the infant and toddler stages. I will look forward to the grandmother experience in the future. Hopefully, I have raised some good young men who will not expect me to raise their children for them. That shit is not going to happen! I am keeping my fingers crossed that my boys will find a good woman and then settle down. I would probably not like it, just keeping it real, if my sons hooked up with women with kids as young men in their 20’s. Once they get past their 20’s, I know that is a part of reality. I know I actually tried avoiding dating when Tom was young as a young widow. I felt like I had tremendous responsibilities that a young, single guy would not understand or be prepared to handle. Despite not going out to look for a boyfriend, a few seemed to find me anyways. I did try to go for older men when I was in my 20’s. Now as an older chick, I am now trying to date men my age since I don’t want to date 60-year old dudes. Guys my age are either looking to settle down with a younger chick or in a similar situation as mine. I’m just looking to enjoy the company of a man and not looking to lock in and become his maid and cook. LOL 😛 There is nothing alluring about being a wife. Perhaps someone will change my mind some day. A great communicator is a very important quality as well as being clean and able to cook himself. Sadly, I’d rather just meet up with someone to have fun and then go back home to my world. Now that I have spoke about the perfect man, it is time to switch gears and share my latest podcast episode. I shared my latest short story that has been loaded up to my Construction Tales-Told By A Woman Kindle Vella Library on Amazon this week. The latest short story is entitled: #8 Surviving The 2008 Recession As A Construction Worker. I decided to write about the impact of the 2008 Recession on myself and my family. I managed to get caught up in this vicious cycle of unemployment that happened as a result of the economic recession. Boy, was that an emotionally draining part of my life! I wanted to share the story in an effort to make the reader aware of how deeply the construction industry was impacted by the actions on Wall Street. Hello Everyone!

How is everyone today on this semi-chilly Monday!? Don’t forget to be on point with that damn Daylight Savings time change that just happened this past weekend! How was your recent weekend and how did you spend your time? If needed, hopefully you recharged your metaphorical batteries. If you needed some fun, hopefully you had an absolute blast. If you needed some romance from your partner or your side check (no judgement here :P), hopefully they swept you off your feet this weekend. Now I had a person comment recently on my blog. Therefore, I responded in the comment section and also releasing this blog post. I am giving a shout out to San from the blog entitled, http://www.TheSanDesk.com. I’m honored that San reached out and likes my blog content. Apparently, he either doesn’t like or merely questions my choice of having the many hashtags that I have at the very bottom of each of my blog posts. I know he is not the only one who mentioned my use of the hashtags. One must ask the question. What is a hashtag? Why am I even using them? It certainly makes sense that they serve a purpose. You would like to know exactly what is the purpose? Well, I shall share my logic and reasoning behind their presence in my blog. I thank San for asking me about the hashtags.

The hashtag was first brought to Twitter on August 23, 2007 by Chris Messina. Nowadays, hashtags have extended past the Twitter realm and onto the rest of the internet. Hashtags are very powerful for syncing up your data with similar content. You have limited characters when you are trying to use Twitter to convey a tweet. For shortened URLs or ambiguous tweets, adding a hashtag can immediately provide context for other users, without affecting the content of the tweet itself. Chris proposed the use of hashtags as “meta-data” back when he created them. If your post is about a topic, but doesn’t reference it specifically, users who monitor that particular topic’s keyword or common hashtags may miss your tweet. Adding a hashtag to the end of your post can slot your tweet into those streams so it doesn’t get missed. In other words, the hashtag helps you get in on a conversation you may have missed by linking your conversation with the same shared hashtag. Hashtags are collected and that is how Twitter knows what is trending based upon grouped content. When a person goes to search and check out what is trending on Twitter, your comment that contributes the discussion will be searchable and added to the global conversation. On the other hand, if you use more than two hashtags on a tweet, it can create confusion on Twitter. However, on the rest of the internet, it is fair game. In summary, hashtags link my content with the content that I desire to pair up with on the internet. Over the years, I have created multiple pages of content that links to either my name or my projects when a person does a search.

As I have shared many times before, I am the author of the book entitled, Construction Tales: Volume I: A Woman’s Journey To Become An Electrician. This book is the first volume of a series that covers my career as a journeywoman electrician in New York that was released back in 2013. I learned very early on to have a social media presence on all available platforms. The title is very long and can cause a person’s eyes to glaze over. When I discovered the hashtag, I worked to always tie in the hashtag #ConstructionTales to the book’s title and content related to it. Therefore, I can just offer the #ConstructionTales hashtag and you can find all content on the internet that is tied to the book. I initially worked to promote the book, via using The Combined Book Exhibit and at various book fairs around the globe. I would remind myself in my calendar as to when the book fair was in progress. During the dates of the book fair, I would work to promote my #ConstructionTales book trailer and pair up my hashtag with the official hashtag of that particular book fair. My book trailer is my featured video on The Verbally Disastrous YouTube channel for when visitors check out my YouTube channel. At the time, I didn’t know how to make a video so it was a valuable marketing tool for me. This is especially true when you only have a few seconds to get a person’s attention. The book trailer was created and released for Book Expo America that was held at The Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan, New York City back in May of 2015. I was able to get tickets to the book expo and see my video on a constant rotation loop, via the Combined Book Exhibit at the New Author’s Showcase. While in the midst of promoting for the book fair that was held in San Francisco, I was randomly contacted by a person who is very familiar with Twitter traffic. I didn’t probe further on his role in tech. I just graciously accepted his compliments and snapshot of Twitter traffic that I was involved in. Being an unknown author in a sea of content on the internet feels overwhelming. Trying to make your content known is like a needle in a haystack. I had learned that I was overpromoting to the point that I was actually pissing off some book fair attendants. Now that certainly was not my intended goal. Therefore, I had to take my foot off the marketing metaphorical gas pedal. I apologized on Twitter and backed off my marketing for the remainder of the book fair. The gentleman that direct messaged me on Twitter also shared the (shown above) photo with me. The photo is a visual representation of the Twitter traffic for that particular book fair. He asked me if I realized what I have been doing with my marketing? I responded that I had a goal to slightly abuse the book fair hashtag with my own hashtag in hopes of a few people seeing it. He told me that it more than worked in my favor and that I was a marketing guru. He showed me that my ritualistic coupling of the hashtags caused many people, via book fair Twitter traffic, to be directed to my content. If you look in the above photo, you will see my name “Leslie M. Jasper” in purple in the lower right hand side. My name is intertwined with the Twitter traffic for the “ALAAnnual” book fair. I was highly pleased to see a physical representation of what my marketing had accomplished!

Now this is the part where I answer the burning question. Many of the hashtags are general ones for a basic search. Plenty of the hashtags represent any and all book fairs that are held around the globe for the year 2021. Once the year 2022 comes around, I will update my hashtags to reflect the new year. Now, you know exactly why I have the hashtags at the bottom of each of my posts. As far as I am concerned, they do not interfere with my blog content since they are at the end of the post. If anyone asks in the future, they will be referred to this blog post. If you want to use the hashtags for your own blog, by all means grab them. A cool shout out letting me know that you are using them is sufficient and appreciated I hope my response fully satisfies the curious folks about my hashtags. What I need to do is go find podcast fairs, remind myself in my calendar, and then promote my podcast content prior to the event and during the venue. Because of Covid-19, I fell back on promoting during book fairs on Twitter. I need to get back into the swing of things now that venues are opening back up in a more consistent basis.

I’d absolutely love to attend the London Book Fair and/or the book fair that is held in Germany. At some point, I will try to get to at least one of them. Since San respectfully posed the hashtag question and asked me to review his content, I will review his blog and write out my thoughts on my discoveries on his blog. Hopefully, he will share my content in return and tag me so that I may see that he honored the verbal cross promoting agreement. If not, that will be as far as I go with promoting his content. MY REVIEW:

I reviewed your content and have quite a few questions and observations. Firstly, I appreciate the above poem that has so little words yet speaks volumes. That poem can morph into a whole heated global warming discussion real quick. I see what you did there with the “Mistaken” poem with no spaces between the words. As a Virgo and resident perfectionist, I found it super cringe to attempt to read. However, I am deeply humored by it and I totally get it. I pulled a thought provoking line from “Written In Stars” as the following: “the ink is indeed the lords’ drink“. The photo for the “We Are Sick” poem is absolutely stunning!! I was going to say that photo is absolutely “sick” but I didn’t want you to think I was doing a play on words. Even though I was actually doing that. Please let me know who is the artist of that photo. That photo would look absolutely fabulous in my home! I’m sharing it but let me know who is the artist so that I may give credit that is due?

The “She Fluttered” is a stunning photo as well that gives a thousand words to feed the mind for a poem that is laced with less than 20 words. I would say that you have some great artwork to fuel your poetic firestorm of words. I appreciate your content. However, I do have a complaint. There is no “About” tab on your website. Who are you? Who is the illustrator? Where in the globe are you from?? As a reader, the only possible link to figuring out who you are would be via some social media links. However, I am checking your content from my desktop and I do not have my log-in credentials for my social media on my laptop. If I was just randomly strolling through the internet and I was curious as to who you are, I would probably drop my curiosity and just move on to different content. You need to have some form of an author and/or illustrator showcase so that we may know who you are. The website can use some more background color and/or photos to liven it up in my opinion. Overall, I like and appreciate your poetry and artwork. You should launch a YouTube channel where you showcase the art and read out loud your poetry. If you do not have a soothing voice, get someone to record their audio version of your poetry. I wish you much luck and continued success! Hello Everyone!

Baby it’s cold outside!! Can you believe we are heading towards winter already?! How about that damn Daylight Savings time change that just happened this past weekend!? Daylight Savings was intended for farming. Why do we still even need it? I would imagine that farmers do not need to look at the clock in order to know that it’s time to tend to their crops and/or livestock! Am I bold in assuming that the entire world changes their clocks and not just the United States? I’m still not looking forward to snow much less those frozen months. Here in New York City, the temperatures are dropping more and more. How is the weather on your side of the globe?! How was your last weekend? How did you spend it? Was it either solo or with friends and/or family? Any good weekend war stories? My son and his team won their second playoff game. I went on a first date with a fella and went to Brooklyn to have some Turkish cuisine. I shall see how it goes. I am putting zero pressure on the situation and looking to enjoy moments with another soul. I am smelling the flowers, having fun, and learning how to date and enjoy a man’s company. Now, it’s enough of my Sex In The City wannabe drama. The purpose of this post is to share my latest short story that I have loaded up to my Kindle Vella Library on Amazon. The short story is entitled: #8 Surviving The 2008 Recession As A Construction Worker. I decided to write about the impact of the 2008 Recession. Hello Everyone!

Hopefully you are having a good weekend with your friends and/or family? As shared in a previous post, I got to check out my son’s winning varsity football playoff game. I opted to share a blog post where I bragged about my son’s team. If you are not into that kind of blog posts, by all means skip and find what you want to read. I went out on a first date with a gentleman this evening as well. I think it was a good date and it went very well. I got to have a Turkish cuisine experience, at Tacis Beyti along Coney Island Avenue, in Brooklyn this evening. After 2-1/2 years of being single, I am trying to put my toes in the water with online dating. I am trying to keep my mind open that this process will yield a nice boyfriend. I am not giving a damn about the men who show an interest then randomly opt to ghost. I wish them luck and keep it moving. I look forward to finding my best friend and special person to enjoy life via various activities and fun. I want to have many laughs, great activities, and great sex. It all takes time to know if I have found that yet. Nonetheless, I shall choose to enjoy the ride and experiences in the meantime. I find it humorous that my ex boyfriend (fiancé) reached out to ask me how I’m doing around last week. He even asked if I am dating anyone? This is not a question I would ask him. I decided to tell him that I have crossed paths with some good guys and enjoying the experience. However, it is too soon to tell what the future holds. Yes, I choose to not have issues with my ex boyfriends and/or fiancés. I’m a firm believer that, “success is the best revenge”. The best revenge in life is to just live your absolute best life. Spending time being concerned with what your ex is doing is just wasted energy. Just wish them well and let the Universe and/or God deal with them accordingly. We are all meant to learn lessons, whether they are good or bad, from people and then move on. Let’s switch gears and talk about my advice courtesy of Quora. I found a requested question on Quora that sought my advice. This question is on the topic of the meaning of saying something is “beyond words”. I always think that when things that are beyond words, they are very extreme in nature. I certainly wish for people to have amazing experiences that leave them speechless. Let me know what you think on this topic? What comes to mind when you hear the phrase? If you have a different take, I’d love to hear it. Here is the question and my response below.

MY RESPONSE:

“When something is “beyond words”, that particular item could be a source to cause the author to become emotionally charged; either good or bad. This means that a topic evokes so much emotion, that the author is unable to properly articulate the impact of the topic. Whatever descriptive words that were chosen, just know that the chosen words do not give the author confidence that the emotion evoked has been given justice, via the descriptive words. If it is considered good, the person is over the moon and so happy that it is impossible to properly conveyed how great it is. The elation over joy that cannot be properly tapped into with descriptive words is amazing to experience! If it is bad, the author cannot properly convey how utterly low this topic makes them feel. I have deep empathy for anyone who must experience this for any long period of time. Hopefully, the person has way more good moments vs bad moments that catapults the author into absolute joy that can’t be properly verbalized. I wish you much luck!”

Hello Everyone!

Here is the blog post where I brag about the amazing job my 16-year old’s varsity football team is doing this 2021 football season. Last night, I came in late from my 16-year old son Johnny’s high school varsity football home game. They have dominated this season with zero losses!! They just won the second playoff game on top of the regular season. I am so happy for my son John Collazo (#77) who is a part of a winning team. They are now in the playoffs post season and gunning for a state championship! As an undefeated team so far this season, they have an amazing shot at making this happen!! Here is a LoHud newspaper article from when the Carmel Rams first met up with the Suffern Mounties for the season and managed to beat Suffern, who they played again tonight, back on October 16, 2021:

My son Johnny (#77) is wearing the sports goggles and the bandana in the photo. This football season, his nickname became “Bubbles” because of his sports glasses. It was cute hearing the high school student section cheering that they “want some Bubbles”. Johnny is 6 foot, 2 inches tall, roughly 240 pounds, and his role on the team is as defensive tackle. Of course, I am saving the newspaper articles so that my son will have them when he is much older. It is such a monumental moment for them all as a team right now. How is your high school doing with their football season? Are you a parent of a child in sports? I love the power of sports to give these kids some great memories, exercise, and a self-esteem boost! He now wants to go and do wrestling and/or lacrosse to keep himself active and improve his health. He most definitely wants to be a machine for his upcoming senior year. I am super happy for him tapping into a new realm of friends on his team. Prior to playing football, he kept to himself in school and had very few friends. I shall offer some future playoff updates as they become available. The beauty of belonging to a winning team is so great for my son. I have always believed that sports do a great job of keeping a teenager focused, off the streets, and mostly away from drugs. Sports is a motivator to keep up the grades in school so a teen doesn’t become academically ineligible. I need to settle in and get some rest for now. Hello Everyone!

Can you believe we are in November already?! Damn it, it’s almost the end of the year! I’m not looking forward to snow either much less the dead of winter. Here in New York City, the temperatures are dropping here. How is the weather on your side of the globe?! How was your Halloween this past weekend? Did you spend it solo or with friends and/or family? Did you wear a costume and go to any kick ass parties? Did you have the usual crowd of trick or treaters? In my previous post, I did venture out to lower Manhattan on Sunday to catch the Village Halloween Parade for Halloween and shared some videos. Funny thing is I realized that my last video #24 captured a float with a bunch of topless people. I was looking in different areas and not immediately at that float. Oh well, I can’t imagine that when people got on the float, they didn’t think people were going to film it. Now the purpose of this post is to share my dad’s drawings that I have used, in his honor, in the process of creating my sketchbooks, dream journals, journals, etc. on Amazon. I have to dig for more of his drawings and add them to the “Kenneth F. Clausen Legacy Series” that can be found by using my name as the author.

Hello Everyone!

Let’s be having a fabulous day today on your side of the globe today, okay!?! How was your Halloween this past weekend? Did you spend it solo or with friends and/or family? Did you wear a costume and go to any kick ass parties? Did you have the usual crowd of trick or treaters? I did venture out to lower Manhattan on Sunday to catch the Village Halloween Parade for Halloween. As I have stated a few times, Halloween is my favorite day of the entire year. My sons and I have a history of heading out to catch various haunted house venues. We tried twice this month to schedule something. Both times it was raining so our plans were canceled. I love the energy, creativity, foolery, and amazing costumes that are always at the parade. No, I was not in a mood to dress up for the parade. I was just a bystander filming from the sidelines. You can’t go through the parade without witnessing some form of nudity or some form sexual lewdness. I am quite certain it is in my multiple YouTube videos. Hello Everyone!

Hopefully you are having a good Halloween weekend with your friends and/or family? I met up with family that came in from out of town this evening. I’m tired and not interested in hanging out for a costume party. I want to go to Manhattan tomorrow night for the Village Halloween Parade. It is always a fun and wild time as a people watcher. I found a requested question on Quora that sought my advice. This question is on the topic of body odor. Do you have the courage to let another person know that their body odor is not up to par? If you do, how do you approach them? Do you do it privately or in front of an audience? Would you think that a person who mentions your body odor doesn’t like you? I would think someone is doing me a favor. However, I could understand feeling awkward about it since it is very personal. Here is the question and my response below.

“If someone says you smell, would they still like you?”

MY RESPONSE:

“In my opinion, a simple observation on body odor is just a fair warning that the other person is picking up on some body odor that is noticeable. If I had a bad smell, for whatever the reason, I would want my friends and/or family to tell me. I pride myself on my hygiene. We all go through things in life that cause our hygiene to slip. Super high temperatures, working hard, hormones’ changes, pregnancy, weight gain, depression, drugs, etc. are all reasons for not smelling the most fresh. For whatever reason behind the root, I would want to take care of it. It takes courage to inform another person that they have unpleasant body odor. I would appreciate someone approaching me to correct a problem. Yes, the ego doesn’t like to be told that there is a problem. Perhaps it is an article of clothing that has trapped odor that can’t be removed via washing it. To me, it doesn’t indicate that the observer doesn’t like you. If anything, I believe they are looking out for you if they approach you one on one. If the reveal happens in the company of other friends and/or family, then it is geared to be hurtful and/or shameful. One may ask yourself why are they using an audience to get your attention? Anyone who does it in front of others is intending to get a laugh at your expense. However, it is can be possible that they perceive that you are ignoring your hygiene and a group intervention is required. Shaming is not okay. If the heads up was done with an audience, I would confront the person back and ask them why they chose to have an audience? I would totally make the person uncomfortable for being a jerk. Hopefully, the concern raised is helpful and not hurtful. I wish you much luck on encounters as such.”
