Hello Everyone!

I hope everyone is enjoying their summer!?! I see we are already in the middle of the summer of 2021! For some reason, it is going by way too damn fast! I have spent more time inside than I would like to be this summer. I have had a busy year or more fighting a huge corporation, I shall leave them anonymous, regarding my 401K matters. I have made a some progress with a little bit more to go. When it is resolved, I will offer some guidance without going in too personal on my own affairs. The guidance is how to go above their head and ring the bell. This will force them to listen to your complaints and address them. I wish I had someone to tell me what to do on this issue over a year ago. They have an obligation to help me, as a client, and have my best interests at heart. I have realized that you have to not fear their size and be willing to do your homework and fight for what is right and fair. The bigger the entity, the less personal they are with your affairs. This makes them prone to mistakes. In the future, I will do a YouTube video on that as opposed to writing it out. Some may ask “why?” and my answer is simple- I wish there was someone to guide me when I was younger on a variety of things. I am grateful that God has given me the ability to be resourceful and figure stuff out. As an older person, not quite the village elder yet, we should pass on our knowledge to other people. It can serve as valuable data for the many people facing the same problem. The power of knowledge is greater than any weapon we have. Besides, it is good karma to help others in need in the way that you wish to serve. At the end of the day, you have to do your own homework, keep your paystubs, and not allow the stress of life to consume you so that you are not properly watching the “store”. To date, I have won one of my claims. I will announce and share that video once it is completed.

I try to offer some of what I have learned. Additionally, I learn from people every day. Classic example is that I learned about the deliciousness of manchego cheese. I love cheese and have never heard nor tried it before. Manchego cheese comes from the La Mancha region of Spain. It is the milk of sheep and is aged between 60 days and 2 years! Each serving is: 0 net carbs, 10g fat, 7g protein, and 120 calories. It is great for someone who is lactose intolerant? I am assuming but unsure about that. What a treat to discover with my friend who had it at her house. Now that I am wildly shifting gears between topics, here is some advice from a request on Quora. I have the posed question and my response below so check it out.

MY RESPONSE:

“Each and every action you do has a reward and/or a risk. If you calculate that often, your path as an adult may be clearer vs the person who blindly takes on all risk while chasing the reward. I am running on very little information here so speaking broadly. The speaker, giving out the quote, has observed the words and actions of the recipient of the quote. Perhaps they have studied them on a date, in school, in a social setting, at work, as a potential business partner, social media posts, etc. The observations can be for a day or for years. Remember that those first impressions are lasting ones. The speaker has made a determination that whatever plans they had to interact with the recipient were not worth the risk. As the recipient, you can take mental inventory of the words or actions while in the presence of the speaker. You can either: a) own anything foul on your part, b) attempt to clarify what was a “misunderstanding”, or c) strap up your boots and keep it moving. By reaching out to pose the question on Quora, you more than likely want to review a) or b). You cannot control the actions of others. You can only manage and correct your own words or actions. It is up the other person to accept or decline. I wish you luck on which door you choose”.

Hello Everyone!

I was alerted, more so I “noticed”, about this Kindle Vella short story project around the beginning of the year. I opted to carve out time to write out a series of short stories from back when I worked with the tools as a journeywoman electrician in New York. As of today, I have released 5 short stories onto my Kindle Vella Library. My Kindle Vella Library is entitled, Construction Tales-Told By A Woman. Each story is roughly 5,000 words long. I plan to write out enough stories so that I can put together Construction Tales: Volume 2 in the near future. Hello Everyone!

Cheers to the website Fiverr and finding Anastasia Taranenko from Tad_Art!! I like that she is attentive and asks a lot of questions to be sure that we are on the same page. She makes a tremendous effort to surpass our language barrier. Anastasia hails from Russia. She picks up my details well despite it not being her native tongue. We just completed Phase I of my first children’s book entitled, “Not All Girls Play With Dolls”. Under phase I, we completed five drawings towards the back of the book. I was hoping to save some drawings previously created by my first illustrator. So far, I was able to get one drawing salvaged and fixed. However, it appears to be wise to just start from scratch. Phase II is the last 5 drawings of the book that have been drafted. It should go faster during Phases III and IV since she is creating her vision of the abandoned illustrations in the beginning of the book. I have a fear of wasting any more money on this project. This is why I am working to stay on top of it to see it to completion. I shall place it on Amazon once it is completed!! I will more than likely work on creating another children’s book that inspires young girls to be anything they want to be in life. Hello Everyone!

As mentioned in a previous post, I opted to go to lower Manhattan with my sons for the 4th of July. I rented adjoining rooms, on the 18th floor, for the night at Club Quarters World Trade Center in lower Manhattan. We walked over to the east side of lower Manhattan to South Street Seaport. South Street Seaport is just south of the Brooklyn Bridge. We saw fireworks from the pier just past the Brooklyn Bridge. The next morning before check out, we went up to the 20th floor to record the view down below and to the north of Manhattan. The Club Quarters hotel is the building just south of the Twin Towers Memorial reflective pools. The two pools sit on the site of where the Twin Towers once rose from. The museum can be located to the north that is just behind the South Tower. The Freedom Tower sits just north of the North Tower. To the right of the museum is the Oculus. The Oculus looks like a dove or angel wings to me. Oculus is Latin for “eye” and the Freedom Tower can be seen through the glass strips in the Oculus. The meaning is “eye to the sky”. It is a representation of the many people that were lost on 9/11/01 and are now in heaven. The Oculus is a large mall as well as the subway stop for the World Trade Center. I walked my sons to check out the reflective pools and grounds on the way to jumping on the subway. It was a hot and humid day and my younger son was grumpy. Hello Everyone!

I collided with this request for advice on being perceived as “just being mean” to another person. This is another question that I am unclear if they are legit or breaking my chops. I responded since there are some folks who say things that are “the truth” and get feedback that it is “mean”. They scratch their head trying to figure out how to change the approach and not offend the other person. It is a challenge when you perceive what you have said as the “absolute truth”. The person perceiving it as mean doesn’t want to accept reality. On the other hand, it is probably an observation that wasn’t needed? This is the case when all parties know the truth deep down yet don’t want to acknowledge it. I do understand the concept of being truthful yet perceived as being mean in my own life. I believe I am perceived as a straight shooter who is not about any form of bullshit. Over the years, I try to exercise caution and dial back the truths. Especially when it comes to sensitive people. When you get wrapped up in trying to convey the truth, it is not really heard, people cry and wine about it, and it works to systematically alienate others. When it comes right down to it, is it worth it to always be right? What are your thoughts on this topic? Are you considered a person who tells the truth and receives pushback? “When someone says ‘You are just being mean’, what does that describe and as opposed to what do they mean?”

MY RESPONSE:

“On the surface, it sounds like a sensitive person is claiming that you have a habit of periodically coming across as mean from time to time. Meaning you have demonstrated behavior or issued words that were received as “mean” or “cruel” from the recipient who is calling you mean. You may honestly believe that what you did or say was harmless. You may have even spoken the truth. To many, the truth can sound and feel quite cold and ugly. However, the recipient interpreted your words or behavior as mean. You either provide your reasoning and your side of the coin. Maybe you can eloquently offer your angle. If your position is not logical, just apologize and move on. If you have a habit of pushing the jokes a little too real, read the room and take the cue to dial it back. Not everyone can handle “truth” or ribbing. As unbelievable as it is, you can alienate yourself from others by telling the truth. Yes, it is ridiculous. Are you truly winning if you manage to alienate everyone around you? Nah, back off, lay low, and keep it moving. I wish you luck finding balance”.

I stumbled upon this question on Quora and opted to give advice that I was asked to deliver. I didn’t like the question she asked. I personally don’t like it when woman pursue men. If you are going to pursue a guy, you don’t ask a question like that. Just ask the guy out. If the man is attracted to you, he will agree to go with it. You have just passsed the bar on being attractive. He may just want sex and to keep it moving too. Hell, you may go on to have the best relationship in your entire life! Don’t ruin it by asking unnecessary, trivial questions to ruin your self esteem. You need to be up for whatever door you both go through. Here is the posed question and my response below.

“I wonder why you felt compelled to ask another person of their opinion on your physical appearance? He was being kind with his feedback. He is not attracted to you. He is not trying to diss you or give you a compliment. Take it as his way of trying to back out of the situation. You got your answer so keep it moving. Please stop asking others for an opinion on your external shell. It is not good for your self esteem. If a man doesn’t approach you, he is not interested enough to do it. Do your best to live your best life and someone amazing will cross your path. In lieu of that question, ask a guy if he is interested in going out for coffee or a drink? If he is attracted to you, he will take you up on it. It is not necessary to get wrapped up in how attractive you are to a guy. If you get into a relationship, you passed the test and have attractive credentials. Why potentially ruin a future relationship, via a terrible self-esteem that comes from a pile of unnecessary posed questions. Try to not leave yourself open for a way to shatter your self esteem. I wish you luck on your dating life”.

Hello Everyone!

I just released Podcast Episode #25: The Time My GFCI Popped onto the podcast platform of our choice and onto YouTube. I again hosted this episode solo, the second time this week, on the time I had gotten into an altercation with a dude. I have not produced a podcast episode, prior to #24 & #25, since the end of June. Therefore, I produced two podcast episodes. At some point, I may get better at producing more weekly podcast episodes. However, I don’t think I will since I get busy. Besides, I want to keep this as fun and not so stressful. This challenge happened on a very large project in Stamford, CT back in 2007. I share what goes on during a brand new job coming out of the ground in the most simplest way I can. I introduced some of my co-workers, my straw foreman, and general foreman during the build-up to the showdown between myself and the monokote sprayers. They came on the project with the biggest attitudes I have ever seen on an entire group of people. They picked fights with people who were just doing their job. They were methodically and systematically terrorizing all of the trades on the project on a daily basis.

This episode is dedicated to a fellow journeyman we lost this year, Scott Gross. Scott worked on the same project as this episode. He is younger than I am and is gone way too damn soon. May he RIP and his family find comfort and healing with the loss of their husband, son, father, and so much more. After the altercation, Scott had the funniest take on my fight as well as other things that happened on that jobsite. He is a guy that I am terribly sorry was lost to cancer this year. We also lost one of my partners on this project. My partner Willy died not long after retiring. I know he had health issues including heart problems. I know he had stints put into his heart before that project. He is another guy that will be missed!

Hello Everyone,

I had previously posted my writing on finding your voice. I then opted to make it into a podcast episode. Therefore, Podcast Episode #24: Finding Your Voice is now loaded onto the podcast platform of your choice as well as YouTube. I am your host, as a solo podcaster, in this episode. I dive into how a person finds their voice, some jobsite stories, and advice that I had given to my son’s teen friends that came to the house to visit my son. In this podcast episode, I gave a snapshot of what it was like navigating around construction jobsite humor back when I worked with the tools. I had also offered strategies for coping with jobsite “ball busting” if you happen to be subjected to the humorous wrath of a co-worker.

This topic initially came up as a blog post and was a source of inspiration from a question on Quora. The post was intended to offer advice while diving into speculation on how to acquire one’s voice and lose the fear of speaking up. I tried to think from different sides of the coin on this topic. I am interested in your feedback on this topic. If you have something to contribute, by all means, drop your feedback in the comment section below. This podcast episode reminded me of a jobsite scenario where I almost lost my shit on a group of men who kept fucking with everyone on the job. Their antics came to the front burner the day that one of them decided to try to yank a squeegee out of my hand. This story is worthy of becoming a podcast episode so stay tuned by that. Hello Everone!

I found another question, on our favorite website Quora, that made me dive into the path of finding the courage of speaking up-finding your voice. If you read my short answer and Quora and found me, I thank you for stopping by. For anyone new on here, I often look for questions to inspire my writing on Quora. I try to go with the pool of questions that say a person specifically asks for my opinion. However, this topic came from a general posed question so I went with it. Let’s think about this topic and ask ourselves a few questions. How do we find our voice? Do we already have it? Is it possible that some people never have to find it? It is elusive and never found for some people? Is a person capable of taking another person’s voice? If so, for how long? It probably depends on the patience of the person who lost it. Maybe not all people care about their own voice. How do you develop the courage? Once you are able to speak up, do you work to encourage others struggling? If so, how do you do it?

MY RESPONSE:

“What exactly is your voice and why is it so important? I believe that we are all capable of finding our voice. Finding that voice takes a looonnnggg time. You find your voice by pursuing your own path, making money with your own hands, living your best life on your own terms, not being afraid to stand up in your truth, dropping what fear you have of the opinions of others, know what truly matters to you, and systematically going after each and every goal you have in life. Being in charge of your own life is the best way to find your voice. It is important to find that confidence. Just because a person raises their voice, it doesn’t mean they are actually tough or confident. They may be merely testing you to see what you do. My friends and co-workers today would not believe that I was also a shy, quiet girl as a kid. I have since evolved into a sarcastic, fearless, opinionated woman that is gradually approaching middle age. I am the happiest now currently than I have ever been in my entire life. I know who I am, what I want, and where I am going. After years of being a shy kid who feared challenging the rules, I have since found my voice and confidence. It has taken me over four decades to get to this point. I managed to take the reins of my life and found my stride as the captain of my own ship. Ultimate power doesn’t lie within shouting the loudest. Ultimate power lies within harnessing your emotions at all times. If you can do that, you can do absolutely anything in life.

I dived into my trade as an electrician very young where my peers taught me how to work with my hands. As I was a young apprentice, I learned how to gain my confidence and shed many of my fears. I also learned how to not let a loud mouth intimidate me. My favorite lesson learned was the art of giving quick and sharp retorts to my co-workers. This served as a means of survival to fend off verbal attacks from other people on the jobsite. I watched other people in action and developed my own style of execution and delivery. In construction, we encounter all kinds of personalities in the trades. These workers will sniff out fear, weakness, and observe your quirks and take notes. Many workers will find things to poke fun of on a person and await the opportunity to deliver the nickname in a unique, comedic style. It is funny when the entire jobsite orchestrates playful attacks in unison and everyone calls you by the nickname. While most of it is playful, it comes at the expense of the recipient. At times, some people will take it all of the way serious and get angry. Then here comes the verbal altercation. Some people feel the need to speak louder over others. They hope that by speaking louder, you will back down on your position. Some people have only been taught to communicate via screaming. I have seen quite a few guys get into a screaming match then later on be pals as if nothing happened. That would NEVER happen amongst a group of women!! They would hold grudges and evoke the silent treatments. This is what I really like about the male species. Men get something that’s irritating them off their chest and then go back to normal business. Meanwhile, there are some others who are well articulated and come very well prepared for a debate. Smart folks are the ones many fear, “going down the rabbit hole” with them. They don’t want to come out looking like a fool.

Over the years, I have used my voice to speak up in a variety of different capacities. What I pull out of the tool belt of sharp retorts really depends on the situation, what has been said, and my mood. I have learned from the guys to not take anything personal. It is almost like it is a hobby to try to get the other person to crack. People are not trying to get your wife and kids involved in the battle of words. I have stood there quiet while mocking the other speaker with funny facial expressions. I have tapped on my watch glass repeatedly while tapping my foot dramatically. All the while, my hands are moving towards the sky in a “are you done yet” manner. I have waited until a person died down, asked if they were finished, then tried again to deliver my point. I have even turned my back to a person while they are shouting. With the back turned, I have the hands extended to both sides. I have also sat down and gazed up with a smirk while they are shouting like a maniac. I have even jumped up on a higher platform, arms crossed, smirking, and making facial expressions while they are speaking. The key is to get yourself out of the anger and take on a comedic stance. These are all playful in nature in an attempt to be ridiculous and stop the exchange.

To be very fair on this, you have to be cautious about the person who takes it too far via a screaming match then onto a fist fight. They must have taken the response as a challenge? Why take it to the extreme?? Meanwhile, the person was merely responding to their smart mouth. Not backing down from a discussion can up the conflict a notch higher. They then choose to resort to violence to finish getting their point across. In my career, I have dealt with other trades of people. Overall, we have worked very well all in conjunction on many projects. Thankfully, I have been rarely physically challenged. However, I almost engaged in a physical altercation on a jobsite with a guy who sprays material onto building steel. This conflict actually happened in front of a circle of construction owners and management. One of my Verbally Disastrous podcast episodes will have to be on one the times where, “my GFCI popped”. My low count of physical fights at work is because the average co-worker assesses that there is a strong chance that I will kick some ass or at least fight back. I happen to have a stocky, muscular build. I have always been able to perform work some skinny fellas cannot physically handle. Some people joke that I am built like a, “brick shit house”. My male co-workers don’t want the reputation that could come from fighting a girl and possibly losing. There is a 100% chance that I will fight back and defend myself. There is a 100% chance that if they lose, that story will always haunt them for their entire career. I am very strong and capable of handling my affairs. My physical stature is why I can get away with mocking a screamer or someone who has taken it way too far.

DISCLAIMER: I do not recommend for a person to engage in acts that escalate all of the way to violence. I am merely pointing out what can happen and what I have witnessed or heard rumors about on the job. When challenging a loud mouth, you must always be willing to have to use your fists if the situation escalates.

In my younger years, I absolutely refused to back down from a person attempting to challenge me. Then again, I didn’t go out looking for something to fight about. I was already dealing with trying to prove my worth as a woman on the job. I refused to allow a person to disrespect me in front of my peers. One major interaction would set the tone on the jobsite. It would give others, not even involved in the conflict, a pass to get in on, “breaking my chops”. There is nothing worse than an entire crew giving you grief at any given opportunity. This is all because you have displayed that you are weak and open for random attacks. Now, going out and looking for trouble is just foolish. In construction, there are some former inmates on the job. They may be hot-headed and have nothing to lose. Now the older you get; it makes sense to try to avoid conflict. Just waking up gives us aches and pains. Volunteering for some more aches and pains from a fight is just foolish!! Ideally, it is best to either be quiet and watch patiently or walk away. I believe that it is mighty powerful to give a conflict no air. Ask yourself if the conflict is really worth fighting for? Following your emotions and fighting is very easy to do. It takes great strength to walk away from conflict. Especially difficult if you perceive the other party as being disrespectful. It makes it even worse when the disrespect goes down in front of a group of peers. The other party expects you to defend your honor as well as the group witnessing the confrontation. Some may say that by sticking up for yourself, you are using your voice? But are you really? If the person started the fight on purpose, they are now pushing you towards reacting? The crowd is jeering and pushing you to react. In light of those circumstances, who is really holding the power then? It almost feels as if the opponent and crowd have you on a set of strings trying to push you to react. Perhaps this is the moment to go against the grain of society? If you can figure out how to bow out gracefully while in the midst of a conflict, I believe that you are using your voice plus controlling the narrative.

I have shared this phrase a million times with my son’s peers while growing up as teens. The phrase “success is the best revenge” has been my key phrase of advice for young people struggling for many years. You find your own voice from pursuing exactly what you want in life. I was fond of one teen who shared that she had a rough, abusive childhood. In her childhood, she had no voice. She was at the mercy of the rules and her family environment. One parent was not present in her life and it caused her great pain. I used to sit with her and tell her to avoid the temptation to slip into drugs and alcohol and tell her she is smart and capable of doing anything that she wanted in life. It is a total waste of time and can make problems even worse. Instead, think about and focus on 10-50 amazing short- and long-term goals. Figure out the process on exactly how you can proceed to smash them one at a time. Write them out so you see them. Go ahead and even create a vision board so they become a visual representation of what you want to achieve. To my pleasant surprise, she created a decorative, framed picture of the phrase and gifted it to me one year. We did discuss that living at home had its positives and negatives. For the price of listening to your mother’s rules, you get a roof over your head and your basic needs met. When you break free and move on our own, you are on the hook for every expense that comes your way. She moved out on her own and is navigating adulthood to the best of her ability. When I checked up on her, she is figuring out her independent life and actively chasing those goals. I invited her to dinner to catch up with her. She was enjoying her freedom of choice yet was feeling the wrath of the budget and those limitations. She dished about the long hours she had to work to keep the ship afloat. I will be genuinely thrilled for her when she smashes the goal of owning her own salon in the future. She is a fighter who survived a rough childhood and now a young adult navigating life without a safety net of generous parents.

In conclusion, I believe that when you blaze your own path and chase our goals, you find your own voice. You find your voice through gaining confidence. You gain confidence from no longer allowing others to intimidate you. We all find our voice differently via a variety of different life experiences. Do you need to be the loudest person in the room to have your voice? No. Besides, what is really accomplished by screaming louder than the other person? Just some strained vocal cords. Then again, are you really heard? There is much power in controlling where you place yourself and how you react. Just know that if a person must shout to get the word out, they are a shitty communicator. Attempting to communicate with them is a complete waste of time. Try your best to surround yourself with like-minded people. Avoid people who try to stop your success or do not celebrate your victories with you. Work on being happy via doing exactly what you want to do in life. There are pros and cons plus a price to pay for everything in life. If you don’t back down, you have to be willing to pay the price. Is your success where you find your voice? Does finding your voice guarantee happiness? These questions can only be answered by you. I wish you much luck on finding your voice and your best life!”

Hello Everyone!

As I mentioned in the previous post, I rented a hotel room down in lower Manhattan near Batter Park. The hotel is called, “Club Quarters World Trade Center” and is the building just south of the Twin Towers memorial grounds and the Freedom Tower. We took the train and subway from Queens and came down to check out the festivities on Sunday afternoon. We walked around South Street Seaport to check out the night life. We found an Italian restaurant and ate dinner outside on the street. Johnny tore up a veal chop while Tom and I shared a meal and an appetizer. The brussels sprouts smothered in cheese was amazing! We were walking around and I showed them the huge outside bar I had discovered a month previously. Over by the outside bar, we found our first impromptu dance floor with a DJ working the crowd. A my son Johnny was “cutting a rug” and dancing with random people in one location with a DJ. Now once the DJ played a song we were not feeling, it was the time to leave and head towards the pier along the water. We only had enough time to walk to the pier and checked out fireworks that were south of the Brooklyn Bridge. I wanted for us to walk to the Brooklyn Bridge to get a better view of the fireworks. However, we didn’t have time to make it there. We saw the fireworks from the pier and checked out the boats going fast in the East River. We then found another outdoor party venue and danced with more people. It was a good evening and I am glad we carved time to hang out down there. The boys wanted more food so we found a greasy spoon. We found a cookies and ice cream spot, called Insomnia Cookies in Battery Park. The boys took the rest of the cookies home. We got back to home base and feasted and hit the hay. I liked that we had adjoining rooms so I closed my door when I wanted to go to sleep.

The next day, we checked out and I recorded the view from the top of the hotel. We then walked to check the reflective ponds where the Twin Towers once stood. We then made our way to the Oculus mall, opened in 2016, to check out the stores. I found out the name Oculus is Latin for “eye”. If you look through the glass strip openings in the ceiling, you will see the Freedom Tower. Therefore, the name is to refer to the “eye in the sky”. It is a memorial reference to the lives lost when the Twin Towers collapsed on September 11, 2001. We found all of the stores to be EXPENSIVE!! We all wondered who shops there!? The Oculus is a white structure that resembles angel wings. The Oculus has the World Trade Center subway stop that was rebuilt. That subway & PATH train terminal was destroyed when the Twin Towers collapsed. It is a beauty of a location and worth a visit to pay our respects. We made our way back to the cars safely. We hit the diner for a nice meal. I didn’t sleep very much in the hotel due to the action and activities. The crazy part is we walked 13.5 miles during our 4th of July adventure and return to home!! As a New Yorker, we do a ton of walking!! Therefore, I took a huge nap as soon as I was able to once my sons went home. Well…how are YOU enjoying your summer so far? I can’t believe that we are 1/3 of the way through summer already!
