Meet Isis Harris: “3v3ryday Grind” High Vis Construction Wear CEO!

Hello Everyone!

Hopefully, your Wednesday started out smooth and continues to do so throughout the day. What is goin’ on near your side of the globe today? I’m excited to share with you a fellow journeywoman electrician’s entrepreneurial clothing line launch. Prior to that, I want to announce that my first children’s book entitled, “Not All Girls Play With Dolls” is now officially as a Nook for Barnes & Noble!! I’m giving a fair warning that the illustrations, by Anastasia Taranenko, are not in the Nook e-book. However, the illustrations are available as Kindle and iTunes e-books. I have to figure out how to make the e-pub file smaller in order to load it into Nook. Yes, I need to work on the hardcover version of the book. I’m frustrated that Fiverr has removed my illustrator from the platform because she is from Russia. I need to find an illustrator to create blank backgrounds for each illustration in order to create the hardcover version. Now, let’s get to the actual purpose of this blog post. I want to introduce to you a fellow union journeywoman electrician who hails out of Portland, Oregon. Another thing that we have in common is the beautiful, rustic state of Oregon. For those who are not aware, I was born and raised out in Coos Bay/North Bend, Oregon. Despite being here in New York since I was 19-years old, I consider Oregon my home away from home. For the record, I absolutely love to see kick ass trade women working on their creative projects!! It makes it even sweeter when you see that they faced challenges and came from humble beginnings. I REALLY like the logo so I picked up a t-shirt and a hoodie. I plan to pick up more at a later date to wear on my projects.

I shared this photo with Isis on Facebook to show my support for her budding clothing line. Here in New York City, the workers need to wear high vis t-shirts or reflective vests while on projects. Now, here is Isis’ impressive bio so that we can all get to know her better!

Isis Harris, IBEW Local #48- Portland, Oregon

Isis was born and raised in Portland Oregon. She became a IBEW member in 2014 with IBEW Local 48 and entered the NECA-IBEW LEA Program in 2015, later transferring to the Inside Wireman Apprenticeship program in 2016. After completing Pre-Apprenticeship training with the Constructing Hope Pre-Apprenticeship Program, she decided on a career in a skilled trade seeking to become a Journeyman Electrician. She recently graduated the Local 48 NECA-IBEW Inside Wireman Apprenticeship Program, December 2021, becoming a licensed Commercial and Industrial Electrician. Isis is also a Board Member with Oregon Tradeswomen, Quality Jobs Council Member, N/NE Action Plan Leadership Committee Member, Certified Forklift Instructor, Peer Recovery Mentor, Rock the Trades Ambassador and Business Owner of 3v3ryday Grind LLC, a high visibility clothing company.

Community, Leadership and Labor Activism:

Isis was recently featured on Fox 12’s Good Day Oregon (February 2022) to speak about Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the construction industry and the commitment she made to the movement. She is featured in the documentary: My Whole Self (2017) and Anti-Bias Training Video Produced by Diamond Law Firm, as well as Challenges and Blessings (2017), a recruitment tool developed by Work Source Oregon and directed by Diversa Edu designed to educate job seekers about the employment opportunities in the skilled trades. She was also featured in a commercial for the Tradeswomen Career Fair in 2019, that showed her on the job working during the 3rd trimester of her pregnancy. The purpose of the commercial was to encourage women to understand the duality of working in the skilled trades but also building and nurturing their family’s futures.

She completed a 3-year term as Vice President of the Gus Miller Chapter of the Electrical Workers Minority Caucus with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 48.
Isis also previously taught part-time with Portland Community College as a Forklift Instructor with the Maritime Welding Program and was an Advisory Committee member with Mercy Corps NW in 2018 as well as former Co-chair of the disbanded Oregon Tradeswomen DEI committee.

She is a member in good standing and involved with her union and community. She seeks to educate herself on a range of social and economic justice topics as a union member and lifetime resident of Portland, Or. Isis was nominated by the NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center for the “2017 Woman on the Rise Award” awarded by Oregon Tradeswomen Inc., and is featured on a hallway promotional poster at the Portland NIETC (NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center) highlighting her path into apprenticeship. Isis served on the Historical Black Markers Advisory Committee; the committee was integral in Historical Markers being placed throughout Northeast Portland in recognition of the rich history of number of the black residents that resided in NE Portland, and made history in the neighborhood prior to gentrification.

She has facilitated construction-based workshops with the Tradeswomen Leadership Institute, Helensview Highschool, I-Trades Career Fair, POIC Pre-Apprenticeship Program and within the Oak Creeks Girls Facility with both PCC and the GirlsBuild program. She has visited Coffee Creek Correctional Facility several times with reps from, Oregon Tradeswomen, the NIETC, and the African American Program with the Portland Probation and Parole Dept. She has spoken on panels at the National Electrical Workers Minority Caucus Leadership Conference (Anaheim, CA), the University of Oregon Labor and Education Resource Center’s 40th Anniversary Symposium, Constructing Hope Pre-Apprenticeship Program (2022), for the movie viewing of “Sista in the Brotherhood” filmed by Hearts and Sparks Productions, The City of Portland ‘Women In Construction Conference: A Conference to Educate and Empower’, The Women in Prison Conference (2018), The ‘Women Build Nations’ Conference (Chicago, IL) and The NAMC “Safe from Hate” February 2021 meeting. She is also a member of the Coalition of Black Trades Unionist.

She formerly participated as an Advisory Committee Member of the Women’s Justice Project, and a cohort graduate of the New Leaders Council, an organization new to Portland whose mission is to train new progressive and diverse leaders. She has been featured in Danner Boot ads, Dovetail Women’s Workwear catalog, Architectural Digest, DJC Oregon, Oregon Business Magazine, and interviewed by NPR twice. Isis was also featured in the March 2021 “Women at Work” Blog published by Dovetail Workwear, participated in a panel of Trade Guest Speakers with Oregon Tradeswomen alongside NIETC staff, and gave the closing remarks at the Tradeswomen Leadership Institute March of 2021. Isis also spoke on a panel discussion for The Ism-Project, “That Diversity thing” a film adapted monologue based on dissertation research with black Tradeswomen, conducted by Dr. Roberta Hunte, that premiered March 2021.

Isis, is passionate about shaping public policy, advocating for diversity, equity and inclusion within the construction trades, highlighting issues addressing incarceration and rehabilitation for the common good of all Oregonians, and entrepreneurship as a way to improve working families’ quality of life working via union participation, community-based organizations involvement, correctional institution outreach, and grassroot agency coalition building.

After reading Isis’ bio, I’m rooting for the success of her business venture even more!! I see that she is a relatively new journeywoman and works to empower other women and minorities to also pick up the tools and learn a trade. It’s amazing that she is tapped into her community in such a wonderful capacity! The youth that she has connected with should be honored to have her dedication, mentorship, and her energy. I absolutely see the value in that gift!!! I became an apprentice of Local #3 IBEW NYC back in 1995 and I would have loved to have seen some form of a mentor program. During the first year of my apprenticeship, no one in my class would speak to me. I also dealt with some journeymen on the job threatening to reach out to the apprentice director and get me thrown out of the program. I even had a journeyman order me to cut 6″ pieces of 1-5/8″ strut on multiple 10′ lengths. I sure did it with a forced smile and refused to have the dude break my spirit. It’s reasonable to assume that Isis has some similar stories to share as well. Thankfully, not all trade people behave poorly. Over the years, the sentiment on inclusion has evolved on the jobsites. I’m thankful for the evolved way of thinking. As a woman in management, I won’t tolerate any kind of nonsense on my jobsite. I firmly believe that all workers need to be treated fairly. My first connection in apprentice school was made with a group of African American apprentices. I will never forget the feeling of isolation, that I didn’t belong, and the tight bond that I developed with my pals. Isis sure inspires me to beef up my community service!! I totally feel like I’m slacking big time!! Wow she is amazing!! Then again, I believe my writing serves as a way to encourage and mentor the youth in need. We all contribute to society differently. What I would like to do is invite Isis for a #VerballyDisastrous podcast interview, via Zoom, once I get my new computer set up. I’m sure it would be a rather interesting conversation. I believe that female tradeswomen see the world in a rather unique way. It would be fascinating to see how different her viewpoint is from mine. I’d love to hear her biggest challenges and wins faced as an apprentice and a journeywoman. I will reach out to her and ask her if she wants to share them and I will edit and add it to this blog post, if offered. I’m honored to share Isis’ hard work with fighting for inclusion and equality within her local community. Her efforts are truly admirable and are indeed needed! She is a wonderful role model and I’m sure she makes her children proud! 🙂 Go check out the website shopeverydaygrind.com/shop and check out her clothing line. If you can, tell her I sent you. 🙂 If you are a fellow trade person reading this blog post, drop your trade and local number down the in comment section down below. If you are not in the trade and just want to share where in the world you are from, that is cool as well. I’d love to hear from you as you represent your part of the world.

Thanks for stopping by this blog post to read about the continuous success that’s happening for my trade sister Isis! I totally appreciate your momentary attention on my blog post today. What do you think about Isis journey? Let me know, in the comment section below, if she inspires you to pick a trade? If you have any questions, drop them down in the comment section below. I will work to respond to them. I can even expand on the question and make it a blog post. The goal is to empower other women and minorities to follow our footsteps. It’s not just a click bait comment. I’m genuinely into guiding and empowering others. I’d like others to have an easier time than I did when I first picked up the tools. It’s quite obvious that Isis feels the same way. Since you read up to this point already, I’m sharing my latest (8) podcast episodes that are listed down below from The Verbally Disastrous Podcast, via links for Spotify & YouTube down below. Advice: The Meaning Behind The Phrase “You Do You!”

Hello Everyone!

How is your Tuesday working out for you my friend!? What’s crackin’ on your side of the globe today? I’m delivering another dose of Quora advice straight with no chaser. This piece of my mind is on the subject of one party yelling “you do you!” to another party. There appears to be no way to soften and clean up this injection of nastiness. I’m sure there is quite a bit of missing context that was withheld prior to this phrase being uttered while in an angered state of mind. Does the person actually mean it or not?? Why do we even have to ask that question? Is there another side of the coin to consider on this phrase? One would like to think that the speaker is strongly encouraging the other person to go ahead and make the right choice for themselves. Perhaps they are being indecisive and they need an assertive push to do for themselves?? I’m not confident as to that being the meaning behind the phrase. I interpret that phrase to be manipulative by nature. The person is saying one thing yet that is not actually what they truly mean. Perhaps the phrase is issued as a challenge to dare them to do what they want to do and see what happens afterwards? Now, when they choose to actually “do you”, they could face a verbal or even a physical assault. Why tell someone to “do you” when you don’t even mean it to begin with? I tend to believe that once you start dropping empty threats, you lose respect in the eyes of many. Ideally, your word should be your currency and your bond. In a perfect world, what you say should be taken seriously since idle threats and double talk are not normally in your vocabulary. I find people who either make empty threats or misleading/veiled comments to be annoying as hell! If you tell someone to “do you”, then that’s what it should mean. It shouldn’t be some bullshit where you tell someone you are okay with their behavior meanwhile you are REALLY not. What’s wrong with saying exactly what you mean and meaning exactly what is said? Every person should be free to make choices as they see fit. Who are you to force a person to make a choice to make you happy? Even if a person is being selfish, just let them be selfish. Their continued pattern of behavior should motivate you to remove yourself from the situation if it bothers you that badly. People should only play games with toys and not people. Believe it or not, it’s 2022 and people still can’t read minds. Well, what is your take on the use of this phrase? If you have a totally different thought process on the interpretation, by all means share it. You can easily share your perspective by dropping it down in the comment section below. Now, without further delay, go ahead and check out the question and my response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“When somebody yells “you do you!”, do you find it annoying?”

By Chris Schmehl

MY RESPONSE:

“Well, when the phrase is spoken in that manner, it can be interpreted that it was said in anger. This phrase exudes an angry tone even if read as a text and not spoken. The emotional under layers are frustration, disappointment, and even challenging the action in question. The person has either totally given up and no longer cares or is beyond frustrated at that moment. The frustrated side is using the phrase as a temperature 🌡 check to guage the response of the other party. If the other party follows through with “do you”, it can cause the speaker to have a verbal meltdown and/or walk away to permanently leave the situation. As the person who is actually faced with “doing you”, you can choose to consider the other party’s feelings and position or go with your intended plan of action. You just have to consider the consequences for your own actions, the response from the other person, and own your choice. I think a time when this phrase is annoying is when the speaker doesn’t actually mean what they are saying. I find empty threats to be highly annoying. The only thing we have to stand behind is our word as our bond. I expect people to go to the bank metaphorically with my words. That is one thing my father taught me. My sons knew as kids that my words hold a currency. Kids will walk all over a person with empty words. Do you expect an adult to move differently? It’s hard to respect a person who is all bark and no bite. If you are saying it in an effort to manipulate the other person’s emotions, it’s also really annoying. Ideally, you should only say it if you genuinely don’t care what action the person takes. You can’t control what others do; only your own response. Even if you don’t agree with the choice to “do you”, you need to let it go and let them make the choice. I understand if that’s a deal breaker choice for you. If so, then go ahead and “do you”. Just don’t say anything that you don’t intend to fully execute and don’t hold anyone emotionally hostage. The other party can pick up on empty words and will move accordingly. All parties should be invested at free will and be happy with their own choices. I wish you luck and much success with your life choices! #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous”

I totally appreciate your choice to divert your attention onto my advice post today. What comes to mind when you think about the “you do you!” phrase? The exclamation point makes it an angry delivery. Perhaps reading it in text form makes the interpretation even more harsh versus hearing it spoken? What do you think about that? Let me know, in the comment section below, if you either like or dislike my advice? Make sure to explain exactly as to your position so that I may gain an understanding. I’m interested in hearing the perspectives of others on this topic or any other one. Vol. #46: Showcasing (3) More Awesome Gang Authors!!

Photo Credit: The Verbally Disastrous Podcast- (2) New Episodes On Spotify

Hello Everyone!

Well folks!! We are back to another Monday so make it a productive one and get through it hour by hour!! How was your weekend, my friend? I hope you had a kick ass weekend doing exactly what you wanted to do. If not, make it a goal for the future. I planned an absolute fun-packed weekend with my two sons and some cousins & friends. They snacked on cake, cookies, pizza, drinks during the weekend celebration while playing video games and trash talking. Despite the threat of spotty moments of rain, we indeed hit Six Flags New England this weekend too. The beauty of the periodic rainy patches made it a weekend where the crowd was small. We went on back to back rides and I even got a headache in the process. I went to a go-kart racing track with my guy that I’m dating on Sunday. That was an absolute blast!! I’m in a new relationship and it feels absolutely amazing like a giddy teenager for now. 😛 In case I have not previously mentioned it (sarcasm), my first children’s book entitled, “Not All Girls Play With Dolls” is now live on Amazon in both paperback and as a Kindle, an iTunes e-book, and for Nook via Barnes & Noble!! As of today, the Barnes & Noble Nook e-book is still pending approval. At this point, I have no idea as to when it will be released. I’m giving a fair warning that it is only the words and no illustrations. I intend on having the audio version of the book as well. I need to try to work on the audio version this weekend. Have you ever worked on getting a children’s book online? Are you a budding author who just launched your book/podcast!? It’s important to have all of the social media platforms and build your brand via networking with others. I find great power in the hashtag as well. My hashtags are #LeslieMJasper, #ConstructionTales, and #VerballyDisastrous. Share with me your hashtag and connect with me on social media. If you could also network with my 16-year-old son John’s “Call To Action Marketing” business (hashtag #CTAMarketing), that would be helpful and highly appreciated. This post is intended to share even more work of some independent authors, such as myself, and earn some good karma in the process. Why not offer you a taste of a variety of authors with different content? Let me know if you have discovered a new author during this “Showcased Author Series”? My objective is to pick out different authors that offer a variety of media content. For the record, I know nothing about the author other than what is showcased in the author article that was shared, via Awesome Gang. Feel free to copy and paste and share this content on your blog, if you like. As an author, if you want to add more information, drop it down in the comment section below and I will edit and add at my earliest convenience. For now, I’m connecting with the authors in an effort to build my author network. Hopefully, they will follow me back on social media. I’m game to cross promote each other on social media as well. Just let me know or re-tweet one of my posts and I will automatically return the favor on Twitter. I’m totally cool with many ways to help each other market each other. When you are a small content creator, it is important to help others out. I shared some free marketing websites in a blog post so go look for it if you could use some free marketing. I’ve even submitted #ConstructionTales to both Awesome Gang, Book Reader Magazine, and Book Goodies along with my children’s book #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls while currently working on other avenues. The children’s book #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls is intended to empower young kids to pursue their passions even if it is not normally the tradition in their society. Here are (3) showcased authors down below:

Showcased Author- 1.) Billy J. Barnum

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I just released my 2nd book which I am extremely proud of.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The Unbelievable Believable More Tales from the Baron. People that have bought and loved my 1st book asking will there be another.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Sometimes I can’t sleep at night and the words and vision take over so I have to get up no matter what time it is and write them down.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
I have not been influenced by any books or anybody. I just write and hope people enjoy my works.

What are you working on now?
Nothing. My new book was released March, 30th 2022 and I leave it up to everyone who reads it if there should be another. If I get great reviews and many requests I will then put myself in the frame of mind to plan on and hopefully start another.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
Twitter and Facebook have to be the #1 best promotion. I have many friends and supporters on there.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
If you put your hard work into it and wrote it and think it’s good enough then release it and let it fly.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Dream Big!

What are you reading now?
Sometimes a poem or two that sounds interesting.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Watch my new book take flight and watch to see how high it soars.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
A newspaper to read about days gone by news events and both of my poetry books.

Showcased Author- 2.) ETHAN KOIL

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I currently live near Bristol, in the UK. I’ve previously written 8 (unpublished) novels: Floating Hair is my 9th, which I have self-published.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Floating Hair. The starting point was Salem’s Lot by Stephen King, which is my favourite of his novels. I just liked the idea of a character living in the town as a child, and having a traumatic experience. He leaves, becomes an adult, and goes through a tragedy: returning to the womb-like safety of his childhood town. His childhood trauma then ties in with the adult plot.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I usually write between 2 and 4 in the morning.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Stephen King was the author who inspired me to become a writer: Salem’s Lot particularly influencing me.

What are you working on now?
I am currently working on a sequel to Floating Hair.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’ve had some success using Amazon Ads, albeit the costs greatly outweigh the royalties from sales. Bargain Booksy and Robin Reads have been the 2 most successful promotion sites so far. Will be interested to see how my promotions across the 5 awesomebookpromotion.com websites perform in April!

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Every author is different. By all means listen to what works for other authors, but don’t feel obliged to follow their advice.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Don’t wear grey and green together.

What are you reading now?
Complete ghost stories by M R James.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Continue working upon my Floating Hair sequel.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Fellowship of the Ring, The Silence of the Lambs, A Christmas Carol, and Complete Books of Charles Fort (I’m cheating a little, but I’ve got them in a single volume!)

Showcased Author- 3.) S.M. Nottage

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
Taking The Plunge is my inaugural novel, after having 5 non-fiction books published some years ago. Writing fiction has been such an enjoyable experience, in terms of the creativity and freedom it offers, and connecting with readers via bringing stories and experience to life.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
In short, Taking The Plunge named itself. The novel’s protagonist (Anna) is stepping out of her comfort zone in terms of the swimming adventure that is proposed to her, and in her personal life when she is caught between two romances and must make a choice.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
LOL, I’ve never thought about unusual writing habits. Writing at dawn works well for me. I like to visit the places about which I’m writing, in order to experience them directly.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
Many authors and books have provided influence, for which I’m immensely grateful. Reading Sarah Waters’ novels first gave me the idea of writing myself. I like to read widely to experience different writing styles, to understand how other authors bring their ideas to life.

What are you working on now?
I have the completed basic structure for Troubled Waters, the sequel to Taking The Plunge. I’m working on how the characters, including new ones, interplay, and their motivations are revealed to readers.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
To be honest, I’m still learning the best way to promote books. Surprisingly, some seemingly obvious ways haven’t worked, and word-of-mouth has been more effective than I expected.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Just write. Be yourself. Read other authors. Have a trusted critic (in my case it’s a friend who is good at being honest) who can help make your ideas better by seeing what you’ve missed.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Understand the landscape around your novel, i.e. how does it compare / contrast to other novels in the same genre.

What are you reading now?
I’m reading poetry at present, to expose my brain to different ways of articulating ideas, which I’d like to incorporate into my next novel.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’d love to get more feedback from readers about Anna and Taking The Plunge, and incorporate it into the next novel in the series, Troubled Waters.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
That’s a tough question. I loved Sally Friedman’s ‘Swimming The Channel: a memoir of love and loss.’ Anita Shreve’s ‘The Weight Of Water’ captivated me when I read it. Perhaps ‘Catcher In The Rye’ because it was the first time I had been exposed to that style of writing.

I recently shared my latest short story that has been loaded up to my Construction Tales-Told By A Woman Kindle Vella Library on Amazon. This is short story #11 entitled, “Juggling Motherhood & Working With The Tools”. This short story covers my life as a widowed, single mother in the era when I juggled both motherhood and my career as a journeywoman electrician. I share the various challenges I faced and lessons learned along the way. The previous short story is entitled: #10: “Early Life Lessons & Characters To Meet As An Apprentice”. I decided to write about some life lessons such as guarding your personal information, managing nasty rumors, combating sexual harassment, gender discrimination, and racism. Overall, the construction culture has improved dramatically over the past 25-years. Developing both a thick skin and a sharp tongue are key tools needed to survive various jobsite antics. I hope you learn something from this short story. There are more to come. These short stories are now also available as Verbally Disastrous podcast episodes.

The children’s book #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls is intended to empower young kids to pursue their passions even if it is not normally the tradition in their society. Here are (3) showcased authors down below:

Showcased Author- 1.) Ana Cristina Caelen

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a writer, music composer, and vocal artist with a passion for the fantastical realms of sound, silence, and language. I have a bachelor’s degree in Music and a master of arts in Indo-Tibetan Buddhism. I love exploring the nature of magic in everyday life. Like many of my characters I spends a lot of time in the shadowlands knitting together stories from the potent imagery of my own dreamworlds.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
Wilding Souls is my debut high fantasy novel. It was inspired by many years of working with different aspects of my own psyche and a poignant series of dreams which brought the whole story to life.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Yes! I write much like I do most things: through free improvisation. I sit and let myself free-flow with words as I watch a scene unfold within my mind. If I lose the thread of the story I will pause until a character beckons to me once again. I leave my editing towards the end of the creative journey so I don’t get too in my head about the details.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The Merro Tree by Katie Waitman. It’s a fantastic experience of what I call “circular writing.”

What are you working on now?
A second novel set in the same universe as Wilding Souls which continues aspects of the story with a different cast of characters and perhaps a few surprise returns.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I’m learning as I go! The personal touch is always my preference.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Write your heart.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Never underestimate the revolutionary power of giving yourself permission to feel, think, act, and express exactly as you already do.

What are you reading now?
Nothing at the moment! Sadly, I find I cannot read much when I am in the midst of writing.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I would love to collaborate with other artists on shared creative visions as well as publish my second book (hopefully by next year).

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Merro Tree, The Madness Season, Tantric Quest: An Encounter With Absolute Love, and Body and Voice (A Somatic Re-Education).

Showcased Author- 2.) Adam Pascarella

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
I am a former practicing lawyer who now runs an investment management firm in New York City. “Reversed in Part” is my first book.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
I was inspired to write Reversed in Part because I was looking to do something different with my career. At the same time, I couldn’t find many resources on lawyers leveraging their law degrees and legal experience in different areas. In effect, I wrote the book that I would have wanted when I was thinking of making a major early career move.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
Nothing in particular. I try to write when I am most energetic (typically, in the early mornings). The goal is to make it as seamless as possible—especially on the days when I don’t feel like writing.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
For writing, Steven Pressfield is a key inspiration. In The War of Art, he shows how important it is to become a professional—no matter what it is that you’re trying to do. It is the only way to overcome so-called “Resistance” and bring new ideas into the world.

Jack Schwager is another inspiration. His “Market Wizards” series was one of the key inspirations behind my book Reversed in Part. I like how he brings readers into the room with famous investors and provides an up close and personal view of their investing philosophies and strategies.

What are you working on now?
I’m not working on any books at the moment. I’m completely focused on growing my business. But I can never rule out writing another book in the future.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
One of the most effective ways is to rely on your personal connections. Sure, your first level connections will buy your book. That said, the more powerful thing is when your first level connections refer your back to their first level connections. From there, anything can happen. The closest digital replica is LinkedIn.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Stay disciplined. It’s always easy to put off writing for “another day.” In fact, there is no perfect day or time to write a book. The best thing to do is get started and create an environment which makes it as easy as possible to write.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Life is all about action. It is easy to be overly analytical, whether we are thinking about our next book or our dream jobs. The much tougher, yet rewarding, thing is to take action toward those goals. Even if you fail, the real-world data that you receive will get you closer to your long-term objectives.

What are you reading now?
“The Changing World Order” by Ray Dalio and “The Cold Start Problem” by Andrew Chen.

What’s next for you as a writer?
I’ll mostly be focused on shorter form media (like blog posts and tweets).

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?

  1. Courage is Calling by Ryan Holiday.
  2. Atomic Habits by James Clear.
  3. The Bible.

Vol. #44: Showcasing (3) More Awesome Gang Authors!!

Photo Credit: The Verbally Disastrous Podcast- (2) New Episodes On Spotify

Hello Everyone!

We made it to another Friday!! What are your weekend plans my friend? Any celebrations going on your side of the globe today? My youngest son Johnny had a birthday on Monday. A year from now, he will be a legal adult. I’m planning on spending the weekend with my two sons and some cousins. I’ve made a cake and some snacks to aid in the weekend celebration. They want to hit Six Flags New England this weekend. I’m not sure if it is going to be a wash-out or somewhat of a decent day on Saturday. Here’s a gentle reminder that my first children’s book entitled, “Not All Girls Play With Dolls” is now live on Amazon in both paperback and as a Kindle, an iTunes e-book, and for Nook via Barnes & Noble!! As of today, the Barnes & Noble Nook e-book is still pending approval. I intend on having the audio version of the book as well. I recently shared some free marketing websites in a blog post. I’ve even submitted #ConstructionTales to both Awesome Gang and Book Reader Magazine recently. I recently submitted my children’s book to Awesome Gang and Book Goodies while currently working on other avenues. My first children’s book #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls is intended to empower young kids to pursue their passions even if it is not normally the tradition in their society. Here are (3) showcased authors down below:

Showcased Author- 1.) Fleury Sommers

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My grandmother came from a ranching family in Montana. She was proud of her heritage and loved to travel. Mother kept many of her artifacts, including cowboy chaps, Japanese kimonos, tortoiseshell cigarette cases, photographs of stern settlers who survived Indian attacks, and others. We ate meals around a table used on the ranch to feed the cowboys. These objects, belonging to and used by real men and women, suggested to me that history was more than the simple and dry facts we were encouraged to memorize in school.
Later, I began to read history more seriously. I don’t suggest in any way that I’m a scholar, but it does strike me that many of the cruelties inflicted on people derive from rancid ideas, ideas that are popularly supported – at least for a time. The next question, of course, is what happens when people are confronted by such an idea and its consequences. When and how does the little guy take a stand?
Years ago the narrator in a Jodi Picoult book (I forget which one) mentioned in passing that a character was a candidate for involuntary sterilization in Vermont. “Vermont?!!” I thought. “Couldn’t be.” I’d assumed those laws were primarily passed and enforced in Southern states. That thought stayed with me and was the germ that resulted in “Warrensburg,” a tale of a Virginia family’s fight against the eugenics movement when it threatened one of their own.
I don’t remember the precise genesis for “Beautiful Angels,” except that blaming the Jews for the bubonic plague was a popular idea irrationally embraced and in the face of clear evidence of innocence. Yet, the embrace of this “truth” resulted in thousands of deaths by starvation and burning all across Europe. “Beautiful Angels” is the story of a small group of unlikely allies, united only by their common humanity, who take a stand against the mob in their own small village.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
“Bayview Boulevard,” not yet published, is the story of an onshore whaling community during the golden age of whaling in the early to the mid-19th century. Although whaling made investors rich and their communities prosperous, beneath the enviable veneer, these communities and their families grappled with and were roiled by the divisive issues of the day including slavery, women’s rights, and others. Part love story and part coming of age story, the book also touches on the little-known, but an important avenue of escape provided by the whaling community for fugitive slaves.
I genuinely don’t remember how I stumbled on this idea since whaling has never been of any particular interest and I’ve always thought that Herman Melville could have used an editor. An onshore whaling community, however, provides ample fodder for someone interested in how ideas affect lives and behaviors.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I doubt it. I write in the morning and usually aim for a certain number of words. Sometimes, it’s a slog, a painful and slow process. Sometimes it comes easily. I suspect I’m not alone in this approach.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
During Covid when we were all house-bound, I read or re-read all the old Ross Macdonald books, the wonderful noir detective stories set in California in the mid-50s. I stumbled on the glorious “All the Light We Cannot See” and the little-known, but beautiful “The Tilted World,” a story about the 1927 Mississippi flood. I read Neil Gaiman for the first time and loved him, and I tried reading a couple of Pulitzer Prize-winning books I will not name that produced an uncomfortable level of irritation.

What are you working on now?
A story about Philadelphia in WW1.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
I am feeling my way with promotion sites. My website is fleurymillssommers.com

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Early on, I joined Romance Writers of America. Although I learned romance writing wasn’t for me, I’ll be eternally grateful for the craft I learned from that wonderful organization.

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
Neil Gaiman said something like “I’ve always read, but then I learned to read.”

What are you reading now?
James Lee Burke.

What’s next for you as a writer?
More of the same: reading, learning, writing.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
Something light, but uplifting: a Dean Koontz “Odd Thomas” book
Something stunningly beautiful: “All the Light We Cannot See”
Something dense (in case rescue is slow): Maybe the Bible – to contemplate all my sins.

Showcased Author- 2.) Quanda R. Graves

Tell us about yourself and how many books you have written.
My name is Until. I’m from Los Angeles, California born and raised. A poet, author, journalist and entrepreneur. So far, I have written two books and currently working on a third.

What is the name of your latest book and what inspired it?
The name of my latest book is entitled Dreaming Of A Place “On The Wings Of My Imagination”. What inspired it? The state of the world today. I just wanted to provide the minds of the world some temporary relief of its current state. Give a blissful moment, a brief escape to breathe.

Do you have any unusual writing habits?
I don’t believe so. Outside of, I have a different pen for different genres.

What authors, or books have influenced you?
The authors and books that has influenced me are the following: Nikki Giovanni, Terry O’Neal, Walt Whitman, Dudley Randall and many more to name a few. A few books are, The Moments, The Minutes, The Hours by Jill Scott, A Room of One’s Own by Virginia Woolf, A Poet and Her Book: Autobiography of Edna St. Vincent Below by Jean Gould, and The Bible by God and many more.

What are you working on now?
Wow! That is a loaded question. LOL! I’m working on so many fruits. In a nutshell, I’m working on QS Simple Treasures & Greetings, my latest book that has yet to give me title. My next poetry CD and a wonderful cup collection I’m excited about.

What is your best method or website when it comes to promoting your books?
My best method to promoting my books is my website. Please visit at http://www.untilnomore.net.

Do you have any advice for new authors?
Yes I do. Learn yourself, in terms of what makes you happy. Learn to be a little selfish with your time, and your whole being. Set boundaries now, so when writing takes over, people understand why you don’t want to be bothered. Lastly, two in one, take on a belief system to help you get through those challenging times, (mine, is Jesus). Also, enjoy life, live, and while living, work to be of great character so you can feel amazing about you because, how else are you going to become inspired to inspire others. smile

What is the best advice you have ever heard?
From my mother – 1. Delight thyself in the Lord and He will give you your heart’s desire. 2. God bless everyone all the time, just not at the same time. Your time is coming, so be patient and wait on Him.

Random – Be you, because everyone else is taking.
Random – If you’re being anyone else other than you, you and the world is missing out. How dare you not be original. LOL!

What are you reading now?
Why We Sleep: Unlocking the Power of Sleep and Dreams by Matthew Walker PhD.

What’s next for you as a writer?
Publishing my latest book by the end of this year.

If you were going to be stranded on a desert island and allowed to take 3 or 4 books with you what books would you bring?
The Bible
Round The Corner
Sweet Lavender
A Room of One’s Own

Sharing My 1st Children’s Book Review & 1-Star Review

Hello Everyone!

Are you keeping dry on this hump day Wednesday, my friend!? How’s it going on your side of the globe today? It is raining cats and dogs here on the streets of New York City today. Why not mention for the millionth and one time that my first children’s book entitled, “Not All Girls Play With Dolls” is now live on Amazon in both paperback and as a Kindle, an iTunes e-book, and for Nook via Barnes & Noble!! As of today, the Barnes & Noble Nook e-book is STILL pending approval!! I’m frustrated that the book has been in the review process for quite awhile now. For this blog post, I’m sharing my very first review received on my children’s book!! Yay!! I happen to know who the reviewer is since I worked with her a few years ago. We both worked for the largest electrical contractor in New York City. She is a grandma now so she picked up the book for the grandkids. She is a great woman and I’m glad to have crossed paths with her. While I’m at it, I’m also going to share the worst review posted for my #ConstructionTales book by some bridge troll. For #ConstructionTales, I have a total of (6) Amazon reviews. Thankfully, there are (5) 5-star reviews! I totally appreciate those folks who helped me out. I might as well share the good, bad, and the ugly when it comes to reviews. If only 1-star Waldo would have stated exactly why “he” believed my stories were lies, then I would be able to properly respond. I’m unsure if the person actually purchased the book or not? I’m assuming that Amazon won’t even let you offer a book review if you didn’t even purchase the book. Then again, I’m sure that if there is a loophole Instead, this person just looks like a negative tool. It would be one thing if there was actual criticism that was helpful. I am a relatively new author so I’m totally open to good feedback. If it’s not a review that’s helpful, it’s just trash. Check out the reviews down below:

Advice: Is Forgiveness An Act Or A Process?

Hello Everyone!

How is your Tuesday working out for you my friend!? How’s it going on your side of the globe today? We had some major action poppin’ off in the job world that occupied a significant portion of my day. I’m appreciating this ongoing work experience. Projects with good co-workers helps to make the work week more tolerable. My pal “stock broker” Eric is on another project. He reaches out since he misses his homies! The new fella is no where near as fun as our stock broker pal. However, we shall give him time to get acclimated. Perhaps his personality is delayed and will come out shining once he is comfortable. However, I have my doubts on that one. I shall remain open minded nonetheless. 🙂 Why not mention for the millionth and one time that my first children’s book entitled, “Not All Girls Play With Dolls” is now live on Amazon in both paperback and as a Kindle, an iTunes e-book, and for Nook via Barnes & Noble!! As of today, the Barnes & Noble Nook e-book is STILL pending approval!! I’m frustrated that the book has been in the review process for quite awhile now. For this blog post, I’m dishing out some more Quora advice. This is that advice that you had no idea that you needed (chuckle). This piece of advice is on the topic of forgiveness. Diving even deeper, is forgiveness an act or a process? I wholeheartedly side with the idea that forgiveness is a process with varying durations. I’m sure that, for minor brushes with conflict, the impacted party can quickly forgive and move onto what’s for lunch. For other folks, even the smallest infractions will put them into a mental prison for an extended period of time. Forgiveness is a choice to be made for the person inflicted and not so much the offending party. It’s safe to assume that the only thing the offender feels is some temporary guilt and/or shame from their part. Those feelings are momentary and then the offender moves on. Well, why don’t you release those emotions and move on as well?? The only person stuck in mental hell is the person impacted by another’s person’s shitty behavior. Free yourself mentally with starting the forgiveness process. I am personally not a grudge holder. However, I know of people who hold onto bad stuff for many years! You have to ask yourself why?? What purpose does holding a grudge serve?? My father was a dude who held onto anger for a long ass time! He probably held on so long, he forgot the details of the incident.. lol!! You lose a lot of precious time with family members by holding onto grudges and not working things out. When he got angry, it was a volcanic eruption!! Like it or not, holding onto grudges will only serve to add fuel to the pettiest of future fires. Do yourself and everyone around you in throwing distance a favor and let go of anything that stunts our growth and gets in the way of your happiness. I’ve always preached that “success is the best revenge”. I’ve always told my sons and their friends that success is the best revenge. The goal in life is to where you are waking up each day relatively happy and with great purpose; you are then winning at life! Some people will do things to you with the intent on damaging you emotionally. The saying “misery loves company” applies here. I love hearing success stories where people emerge from the ashes as a happy, healthy soul with no lingering emotional hang ups. It’s wise to work hard to take away the power a person tries to have over you with emotional stress. This life is incredibly short and it absolutely flies by. This is especially true the older you get. Therefore, let go of anything that doesn’t serve you well and instead keeps you up at night. You have to figure out what will cause you to release the pain and then do it. Wake up each day choosing to be happy and do what it takes to accomplish that goal. Use humor as a tool and surround yourself with good people who also seek happiness. Perhaps you think that I’m selling you a pipe dream? You are not capable of escaping mental turmoil. Well, take one day at a time, my friend. Find something that makes you laugh and elevates your mood each day. Write out those long and short term goals and work to scratch them each off the paper. Happy people have a plan and they let go what is not mentally healthy for them. What is your take on the choice of forgiveness? If you have a totally different thought process on forgiveness, by all means share it. You can easily share your perspective by dropping it down in the comment section below. Now, without thinking further, go ahead and check out the question and my response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“What is meant by the phrase, ‘Forgiveness is not an act, but rather, a process’?”

By Rick Wilz

MY RESPONSE:

“I agree that forgiveness is not an act but more like a slow process. Once a person does something offensive, it takes time for the person being impacted to process the poor words/behavior. Sometimes, it takes a significant amount of time to mentally calculate the emotional toll while processing and sorting through the emotional fallout. If the choice is made to forgive the other party, that is not a one and done event. Having the capacity to forgive and let go through such deep, emotional pain takes some time. This is especially true when one is closer to the day of impact. One’s emotions are at the highest when closest to the day of offense. Time is indeed your friend in this situation. As time passes, the emotional gravity lessens as each day passes. Hopefully, there is not another event to bring up the flood of raw emotions up to the surface once again. One has to consistently remain in the mindset of desiring to let go the emotional chains in order that harnesses the person’s mind to the impact. At any time, the person forgiving can regress and go right back into the pits of anger and despair. The act of forgiving is not so much letting the other party off the hook. At the time, it feels like you are giving the offender a pass. Meanwhile, the forgiver must consider that the only thing the offender may feel is regret or shame that most certainly fades over time. The forgiver is the one stuck holding onto those emotions. Therefore, it is time to work on letting it go. One needs to consider that those emotions are not worth holding onto either. In a sense, those emotions hold a tremendous amount of power over the person impacted. Allowing themselves to hold onto those emotions is like extending the punishment. Forgiving is metaphorically an eviction notice in the mind where the conflict takes up mental space as a squatter. Once evicted, forgiveness helps to gradually free the mind of the person. Being able to free up the mind from mental turmoil is rather liberating. Letting go of emotional pain is a slow process yet highly rewarding. Everyone is different with the durations of their forgiving process. Holding onto pain and refusing to forgive only hurts the person harboring the pent up angst. I don’t believe that it is physically healthy for the person refusing to forgive. It’s possible to get ulcers and other health ailments from continuing to harbor negative emotions. Making the choice to forgive isn’t easy since high emotions are difficult to shed. If you have other people in your life who also hurt you, those emotional forces can combine and can feel like the weight of the world is on the shoulders. Holding anger on your heart can make it tough for the person to function in other aspects of their life. May you think about how your actions will impact the lives of others. May you have much luck and success with choosing forgiveness and maintain your happiness in this life that is very short! #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous #NotAllGirlsPlayWithDolls”

I appreciate you swinging by like Tarzan onto my advice post today. Hopefully, you appreciate the mental visual of that metaphor as much as I do. What comes to mind when you think about the forgiveness process? The choice on how to proceed in your life with the forgiveness of others must be considered. It’s obviously your choice as to if you choose to forgive or harbor those emotions. I just hope that you find comfort in your choice one way or another. I personally don’t want to have anyone live rent free in my head. No matter how painful and offensive, I want to release it as soon as possible. I believe firmly in being happy and that happiness is the best revenge. Let me know, in the comment section below, if you either like or dislike my advice? Make sure to explain exactly as to your position so that I may gain an understanding. I’m interested in hearing the perspectives of others on this topic or any other one. Advice: How To Be Aggressively Private With Social Media??

Hello Everyone!

Well, we made it to another Friday my friend!! Thankfully, the weather is getting better as the weeks pass on. How’s it going on your side of the globe today? My first children’s book entitled, “Not All Girls Play With Dolls” is now live on Amazon in both paperback and as a Kindle, an iTunes e-book, and for Nook via Barnes & Noble!! As of today, the Barnes & Noble Nook e-book is STILL pending approval. Check out my standard brand hashtags that are #LeslieMJasper, #ConstructionTales, and #VerballyDisastrous. For this blog post, I’m dishing out some more Quora advice. I found this proclamation to be quite humorous!! This has a lot to do with using the term “aggressively” in front of the term “private”. In my sarcastic as hell mind, it sounds like some dude is on this ultra mission and is traveling to the ends of the Earth to accomplish this mission and will stop at nothing less than the goal of being private. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to them, they are being feverishly tracked the entire time on Google Maps during their mission. Sometimes, I think people have the great intention of being private with their data. However, the only way to ensure your privacy in an aggressive manner is to have no technology whatsoever. In modern times, I say good luck to that goal! I find the term “aggressive” to be so extra and dramatic in nature. Hence, the tone of my response. What is your experience with this privacy matter? As I have stated in previous posts, I’m willing to be wrong with my position. At the end of the day, I’m willing to trade in my data in exchange for some cool, FREE technology. As a published author who wants to use social media to promote my content for free, I’m totally willing to farm out my data to the highest bidder with the most interesting technology. I like using Google Maps and other handy latest pieces of technology versus using the old road map that I had in the trunk of my car back in the old days. A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do to use the free/easy shit!! 😛 What is your interpretation when you hear someone say that they are aggressively private with social media? Is it just a momentary thought and you keep it moving? Do think about it longer than a few seconds? I tend to think if you feel that way, go ahead and do your thing. Just don’t be that creep stalking my content with your faceless profile picture. Never mind- go ahead and stalk my page and buy my book! If you are super concerned about your privacy, then don’t use social media at ALL then is my point!! If you have a totally different thought process, by all means share it. You can share your perspective by dropping it down in the comment section below. Now, without thinking further, go ahead and check out the question and my response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“What does it mean if someone says I’m ‘aggressively private’ with social media?”

By Clavy Celestine

MY RESPONSE:

“I would think that the only way to be ‘aggressively private’ with social media would be to not even have any at all whatsoever. You have to keep on going, just short of living in a cabin in the woods, in order to dodge “the man”. The minute you sign up for social media, you are providing your data for the social media platform to mine even if you offer limited data. Each time you use a GPS system or Google maps, that is tracking your every move. The only way to be aggressively private would be to give false data or use your friend’s demographic data to sign up. If they actually choose to sign up and have social media, they will be the creepy stalker type who have no profile picture who doesn’t post anything or have any photos. The question I have is, did this person volunteer this fun fact or was it their response after asking if they have social media? If the person offers this data totally unsolicited, they are such a bull$h!t artist! LOL I wouldn’t believe anything that they have to say. If you want to be aggressively private, then don’t have social media, a smart phone, GPS, or any form of technology that involves Google or Alexa or any other “spying” means. Matter of fact, just have an old flip phone or try to use a pay phone. I bet you they miss the old rotary phone era too. Like it or not, it’s very hard to navigate through modern society without getting wrapped up in some form of data mining. I understand the desire to not want your information out there for companies to sift through. However, I’ve resigned myself to the fact that if I want to take advantage of a particular piece of technology for free, it is going to cost my data in exchange. Much luck and success on your choice to be public or private with your data. #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous”

Advice: Is The Truth Actually Unkind??

Hello Everyone!

Now, how’s your Thursday morning going for ya?? Thankfully, after a cold start earlier this week, the weather is gradually warming up to spring temperatures. What’s happening on your side of the globe today? I’m sharing yet AGAIN that my first children’s book entitled, “Not All Girls Play With Dolls” is now live on Amazon in both paperback and as a Kindle, an iTunes e-book, and for Nook via Barnes & Noble!! As of today, the Barnes & Noble Nook e-book is STILL pending approval. Check out my standard brand hashtags that are #LeslieMJasper, #ConstructionTales, and #VerballyDisastrous. For this blog post, I’m delivering to you even more Quora advice. This subject matter may cause us to think a little deeper than normal. This next round of Quora advice being delivered to you is on what causes an “always honest” person to be unkind? As the above photo says, there is nothing unkind about the truth unless you are living a lie. I do believe that the truth can only be veiled in darkness for only so long. Eventually, the truth comes right out to the light when you least expect it. In what situations would the truth spill out as unkind? A person’s momentary bad choice that is now shaped immortally as an ugly truth? I genuinely wish people would put more thoughts into their actions than they do thinking about what to put on the grill for dinner. Good, bad, or ugly, you should ride solidly with your choices. People want to make choices then get mad and/or emotional when they are questioned later on by the Monday night quarterback. Many choices are made with limited information and major emotions on the spur of the moment. Armed with that knowledge, just know that they will be scrutinized heavily by the “perfect people” later on. Just laugh, take the “L”, and keep it moving. Just maybe it will motivate you to approach the situation differently in the future. An action that has more than one way of viewing it? Some sneaky behavior that was done in the dead of night yet had one set of eyes on it and now the entire world knows about it? Own each choice and be ready to use humor as a tool to laugh at yourself and diffuse the emotional bomb. We all make mistakes and not all decisions are perfect. As I have shared in my Quora response, the unkindness of the truth comes right down to one’s intention. Not only your intention but how is your intention translated to the other involved parties? Once everyone knows that you have bad intentions with the truth, it is no longer about the truth and more so about your bad intentions. The world would be a better place if people don’t wake up and choose violence or bad manipulative intentions. What’s your position on the topic? Are you the sensitive one to the truth? Is telling the truth your super power? Do you lose respect for people who cave into others emotional hang ups and pull back from the truth in response? The older I get, I have realized that not all need to fall on the truth sword. This is especially true if the truth is not going to do much to change the dynamics. In my younger years, I used to strongly believe that all folks should be held accountable for their words and actions. There were key people in my life, when I was younger, where I felt totally compelled to have them own their mistakes. Their response was to try to avoid me unless they wanted money. In the end, they never owned up to their behavior and passed away. Thinking back, what was accomplished by forcing a person to own their behavior? How do you make up for delayed ownership and lost time? How many times can you apologize before the situation feels settled? It takes an experience like that to realize that the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze. We should have moved on from the truth (the person repeatedly dodged the truth) since a lot of time was wasted due to not getting past sour feelings. I’ve learned that life is entirely too short to hang your hat gaining acknowledgement of the “truth”. The other person perceived me as being “unkind” for constantly bringing up the “truth”. Years later, I think, “what was I looking for? What did I gain for pushing for the acknowledgement of the truth?” Yes, I have some personal experience with this topic. That was a major lesson learned far too late and after the fact. Wisdom is gained, via mistakes over the course of many years. This scenario is totally based upon perspective as to who is “right”. For some, they would agree that the person didn’t work hard enough to make up for their absence. For others, they would say that I harped on forcing down the truth down this person’s neck for far too long. What’s your take on an honest person being considered to be unkind? What is your experience with this matter? As I have stated in previous posts, I’m willing to be wrong on my thought process. What is your interpretation of this topic? If you have a totally different thought process, by all means share it. You can share your perspective by dropping it down in the comment section below. Now, without thinking further, go ahead and check out the question and my response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“What might cause an “always honest” person to be unkind?”

By Judith Engelstad

MY RESPONSE:

“Well, as young kids, we were always told to tell the truth. That was pounded into me relentlessly as a kid. I took that direction as face value on how to conduct myself as a kid, teen, and adult. As an adult, I find it weird how the truth can be considered as “unkind”. To me, that is some emotional Jedi mind tricks. To me, there is nothing better than an always honest person. You will always know exactly where they are and where they come from. An honest person offers facts since that is exactly what they are. This honest person doesn’t withhold the facts based upon the emotional turmoil that can be stirred up as a result of the cold, hard facts. If you don’t like the feelings that come from the facts, then perhaps you should change up your moves. For this reason, the truth is a double-edged sword. The truth is always sought after. However, some truths that are intended to reveal the needed details end up being perceived to be painful and unkind by some. The truth can be rather rough and unkind since it is raw and doesn’t consider emotions. If you make moves and don’t like when they come to light as facts, whose fault is that? If you do it, you should own it. You don’t have to soak in those emotions and wear them as a badge. You just assess it, own it, apologize if you have to, and keep it moving. The unkind truth should motivate you to do better moving forward. If the only thing you see is the ugliness of the truth, is that your problem and not the messenger’s problem? In some instances, I do see the value in not revealing the truth. If the person you are revealing the truth to will act out with violence towards others while absolutely nothing changes, then what is the point of sharing the truth? The person acting out violently sure has manipulating, controlling behavior. They know that if they react violently, then it will keep the truth from coming to the surface and keep everyone in line. It’s then wise to keep your distance from those types of people. At that point, is the truth actually unkind or is the person being unkind? This depends on your perspective and life experiences that mold your thought process. I believe that the unkind part of the truth is based upon intention. Let’s consider this line of thinking for a moment. If you intend to hurt a person with the truth and the other party knows your intention, then you are no longer telling the truth. Instead, you are using the truth as a weapon to manipulate the other party through their emotions. If you are just speaking the truth and unaware of the emotional impact, is it considered unkind or is it just the facts? The answer lies within your perception. May you be as cautious with others as you can in order to avoid the emotional pitfalls that come from the truth. Then again, you can’t possibly avoid the sorrowful trap of an emotionally laden person. Some people are looking to use emotions in order to excuse their otherwise bad behavior and portray the victim. It’s terrible to be caught up in another person’s victimhood. You become a pawn in their game. I wish you much luck on navigating around the elusive truth bombs! 🙂 #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous”

Advice: Strike The Shepherd Metaphor

Hello Everyone!

Keep making the best out of our hump day Wednesday afternoon?? Here’s yet ANOTHER reminder that my first children’s book entitled, “Not All Girls Play With Dolls” is now live on Amazon in both paperback and as a Kindle, an iTunes e-book, and for Nook via Barnes & Noble!! As of today, the Barnes & Noble Nook e-book is STILL pending approval. Check out my standard brand hashtags that are #LeslieMJasper, #ConstructionTales, and #VerballyDisastrous. For this blog post, I’m delivering to you some more Quora advice. This next round of Quora advice is my interpretation of a phrase. The phrase offered in the question is, “strike the shepherd and the sheep will scatter”. The same person, as the previous advice blog post from today, is posing another question and asking the meaning of this next phrase. I firmly believe that this phrase is quite direct in it’s suggestion. There is much truth in how wiping out the leader will cause the followers to scatter. Each person is capable of being a follower. However, not every follower is equipped to be a leader. With leadership comes great responsibility. A leader is necessary to guide the vulnerable. Even the Bible speaks about the importance of the shepherd. There are many qualities that a leader must possess in order to convince others to follow them. A leader exudes confidence and is tapped into the culture of followers. Leaders are able to lead others with a comprehensive strategy to dominate and win. The followers need to also be fairly confident in the ability of their leader. A follower will put all of their faith and energy into following the chosen leader. In a hierarchy, I don’t think they choose alternate leaders. I believe that there is one chosen leader without much thought into a back-up leader. This is partly due to another alternate could be seen as a threat to the current leadership. Why have another chosen leader waiting in the wings? However, I’m willing to be wrong on this thought process. What is your interpretation of this thought process? If you have a different take, I’d love to hear it. Go ahead and drop your interpretation down in the comment section below. Now, without thinking further, go ahead and check out the question and my response down below:

POSED QUESTION:

“What is the meaning of the phrase “strike the shepherd and the sheep will scatter”?”

By Rose Anne Campbell

MY RESPONSE:

“Here is another interesting metaphor to digest and interpret. I interpret this phrase to mean that if you take out the leader of any group, the people following the leader will all go their separate ways. Once the followers scatter, the threat dissolves. Not everyone you run into is a leader. There are way more followers in life than leaders. Being a leader requires courage, strength, determination, confidence, a clear game plan, etc. Strong leaders that followers are confident to follow are not in a large abundance. This is why taking out the shepherd is a big deal. Sadly, there are not a bunch of ready made leadership replacements. May you have much luck and success along your path! #ConstructionTales #VerballyDisastrous”
